Any single campers out there?

In theory, it should all be good - I have a tent I can put up alone, all the gear needed for me and DD, even nearby fields where we can have a practise camp, plenty of sites around me, but I'm really struggling to actually physically get out there and do it.

Its only DD (3.5) and myself so maybe that's putting me off. It feels a bit scary and unfortunately we don't have any camping friends we can go away with. I'm not a member of any of the camping clubs - I'm torn between whether the CCC rallies would give a group of ready made friends or be torture...

And now, of course, I'm tent shopping, convinced that although I CAN put my tent up alone, a nicer piece of kit would tempt me out more often.

Has anyone else gone through this? And how did you solve it without spending huge amounts of money on a new tent

An amazing find from a Dutch family who've had de waards for years . It's even got the original instructions!

I've done it a few times, with DS (now 5, but the first time we did it was when he was 2). Camping on your own with a toddler is no fun, but then doing many many things with a toddler is no fun...Last year he was 4, and he was old enough to go off (not too far!) with other children, and that makes all the difference.

And now I'm having another one! Shock. I'm wondering whether it would be biting off a bit too much to try for France in September?! (DS2 due 31st May). I know camping this year with a baby will be easier than next year with a 12-14 month old...

I've got a big, heavy Cabanon frame tent, which I can put up myself in 25 mins...the only problem is if it's windy...a couple of times the whole thing has taken off, and I can't hold it on my own! Now I try and recruit an assistant (any old passer by, basically) to help me at the crucial moment.

Re: motivation- I can never get motivated until the weather starts properly warming up. You may regain your mojo in a couple of months' time...

stubbornstains · 25/04/2015 13:23

Ooh, just had a look at de Waards- very nice! I do love a tentdoek made of cotoen Grin.

I can do any really weekends really apart from 5th July and 21st June. Ideally b4 September as a friend of mine wants to come too. Does some one want to ring clumber park camping site and see how much it is and if can reserve group space? I have a stove but husband doesn't trust me with a big gas tank lol so could bring a 1 ring for hot drinks etc xx

Daisybell1 · 26/04/2015 11:00

I've emailed them and they've said that they'll pitch groups together Grin

I had a look at the booking system and it looks like you now have to book for two nights at the weekend. Not sure how people feel about that.

We are already away every other weekend in June. Could possibly do something in May, otherwise would have to be July.

lavendersun · 27/04/2015 06:44

Meant to add that I have only been twice but that I have always seen groups together. The top or bottom corners furthest away from the showers are great for groups, unless they have changed it the pitches are all round the outside of the field with a big play/open area in the middle.

Peanutbutterfingers · 27/04/2015 14:56

About two hours from us (Birmingham), will come if we're free! Does have 2 night min tho at Clumber, still some availability tues and wed night of half term (26th/27th May)

lavendersun · 27/04/2015 15:12

Shame about the two night min introduction, they didn't used to have that. Must be getting more popular as it was half empty both times we went.

I can't come at half term, we are already camping somewhere else but I will join in any other time I can.

Daisybell1 · 27/04/2015 19:06

They confirmed to me today that it is a 2 night rule at weekends Sad. The only light could be that they will do a single night if they get a last minute cancellation.

I could do the tues/weds at half term (am off to Swiss farm on the Thurs/Fri. I could do the weekend before in May too, most of June and then early July.

Sorry for late replys
Seems like you all been very busy investigating. Did they mention on the email how much it would be? I'm just wondering if we book Friday & Saturday nights then ppl who can at school but only a short distance away ie 2 hours could join later on I'm sure we're all need help with everything anyway so maybe staggered arriving would be best anyway lol
And if some can only do one night then then can just choose with depending on price of course xx

lavendersun · 29/04/2015 16:05

When I checked it looked like it was £28 for the pitch for two nights, so £14 per night. I am happy to pay for two nights even if I can only make one but I am not sure I can make any of the weekends Crystal and Daisy can.

I am going to a festival on the weekend of the 23/24, away at half term and away two of the four weekends in June so would like to have a couple of weekends at home. We are planning on a long (well four week or so) trip in the summer school holidays so won't be around then either as if I am not away with DH, DD I will be camping near where he works.

Tricky! If you arrange a date I will come if I can.

Daisybell1 · 01/05/2015 09:22

I'm happy to do 2 nights as well (although I've just emailed them to see if the last minute cancellations are truly last minute).

We're booked into Swiss Farm for the Thurs/Fri of half term and I'm not sure how much holiday I've got left at work....

How does 2nd weekend of July fit with people's plans?

OP posts:
lavendersun · 01/05/2015 11:20

I know I can't do that one Daisy - it is my wedding anniversary so I already know that DH will be here (don't usually find out until a month before but we have plans).

crystal85 · 01/05/2015 14:53

Hey daisy

Unfortunately I'm away then as well. Whats everyone dates like in August I know it's a bit away but I'm assuming that's means not many plans are made yet lol xx

Daisybell1 · 02/05/2015 08:32

We're pretty free for August!

lavendersun · 02/05/2015 09:15

Once the school holidays start we will be able to come much more easily. We are planning on going away for four weeks but other than that we will come at the drop of a hat as long as my friend is free to feed my horses.

We will probably be attending in my new tent Daisy - Esvo Bedoiun 240 - ordered this morning, I wonder how long I have before I need to confess to DH it gets here Smile.

There is a folk festival here in Sept, date tbc. Not sure if you fancy it Daisy? Anyone else? Bit further than CP from the south but still sort of half way.

Sorry to hijack; just wanted to point out the "no hun" rule to Crystal85 Grin

crystal85 · 03/05/2015 11:43

What no Hun rule?

Daisybell1 · 04/05/2015 10:20

We're fairly free in August (at least, we're not confined by school holidays and so tend to plan stuff outside them!)

OP posts:
ThreeBs · 07/05/2015 14:27

Ooh can I join? I've got 2 boys (3&8) and don't live that far from clumber. I've got a tent but haven't dared to brave a camping weekend with my kids on my own.

Daisybell1 · 07/05/2015 19:41

Please do 3 Bs!

We're struggling to get everyone together at the same time atm but I think between us there's someone free every weekend Grin
