Any single campers out there?

In theory, it should all be good - I have a tent I can put up alone, all the gear needed for me and DD, even nearby fields where we can have a practise camp, plenty of sites around me, but I'm really struggling to actually physically get out there and do it.

Its only DD (3.5) and myself so maybe that's putting me off. It feels a bit scary and unfortunately we don't have any camping friends we can go away with. I'm not a member of any of the camping clubs - I'm torn between whether the CCC rallies would give a group of ready made friends or be torture...

And now, of course, I'm tent shopping, convinced that although I CAN put my tent up alone, a nicer piece of kit would tempt me out more often.

Has anyone else gone through this? And how did you solve it without spending huge amounts of money on a new tent

I also camp without DH in the school hols when he is working - he hates camping anyway and I love it. It is even nicer if you have a friend with similar aged kids to go with but not essential. I only have a smallish tent and I can put it up by myself. I don't bother about evening entertainment, I just take books and a head torch so I can read in bed. I also change my routine, kids stay up later so we can all go to bed at the same time, and just get up earlier. I only go for short breaks, go out for a fish and chip supper at least once, spend day times out exploring. Love it, lots of fresh air, no wi fi, real bonding time.

Just got back from 3 nights in Keswick with dd 4 who had a ball! I decided to go alone with her rather than the whole family as it would be too much for a weekend with one year old twins and a couple of dogs. I didn't want her to miss out and it was fantastic! Dh was jealous so next time he's going with just the 2 of them.

The people were so friendly I never actually felt on my own, it was the perfect break as she made lots of friends too.

Go for it you wont regret it! I loved the freedom of just making a a decision without a huge debate!
