Can you recommend one? Ideally with a decent pool and access to a lake/river beach of some sort. Thanks

We used to stay at Vitrac when I was young. Have done a quick Google, I think the site is called Domaine de Soleil Plage.

The site is on the riverbank, with a little beach. It may have changed in the 15 years since I've been, but it was always lovely, and we returned several times.

We have been to Les Valades twice and will return again this summer. Lake, pool, variety of pitches, low key kids club and entertainment. Free canoes. Beautiful area. We love it!

Camping Le Paradis near Led Eyzies. Toilets so clean you could eat your dinner off the floor, and right on the bank of a river.

ThereisnoFinWay · 29/03/2015 21:03

Les valades.

millimat · 29/03/2015 21:07

La soleil is the one I've looked at, but think its booked up.

Camping la palombiere. We canoed down the Dordogne while staying there., it was a car drive down to the river, but close-ish. Pool was lovely.

Les valades - how long does it take from Calais? Does the lake have a sandy beach?

backinthebox · 29/03/2015 21:17

Les Valades. Pool, lake, lovely!

hillbilly · 29/03/2015 21:25

It's about 9.5 hrs from Calais. We usually have a stopover but this yeat will get ferry to st malo instead and drive in one go. The lake has a very small sandy beach - def not the highlight of the site but fit for purpose for little ones.

The site is so big and spacious and has an amazing feel to it :-)

millimat · 29/03/2015 21:28

hillbilly can you canoe down a river or just in the lake?

OP posts:
ThereisnoFinWay · 29/03/2015 22:15

Canoes just in the lake Smile

ThereisnoFinWay · 29/03/2015 22:16

But it's a lovely lovely site. And I'm sure the people camped next to us last year were mnetters. They had fairy lights and a hammock Wink

millimat · 30/03/2015 09:38

Maybe mnetters camping should have a secret code like hunting and fairy lights?!Grin Although I'd be disowned by mn as we have a .. caravan.

Ok, so la Soleil, les valades, la polmbiere or le paradis - can you walk anywhere from the site?

www.le-paradis.fr/

Canoes available from the campsite. You leave the site in the morning, canoe down river and a minibus meets you to bring you home.

You can't really walk anywhere from the site, but there's loads going on and lots of lovely market towns to explore a short drive away.

We went there a couple of times when the DDs were small. It's very safe, and we were happy for them to race round the site in a gang with other kids. You can hire kids' bikes on the site too.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

hillbilly · 30/03/2015 11:19

ThereisnoFinWay - it might have been me! I have both of those items. We were down by the lake in the trees.

Millimat - there are some lovely walks that you can do from the campsite although we did not do any (too much lazing around to be done). Local villages a few mins drive away. St Cyprien is lovely and has a great market and a weekly outdoor food festival with musicians playing.

hillbilly · 30/03/2015 11:23

Oh and the other thing we love about LV is that you can have bbq and campfire. It was chilly enough in the evenings last year for us to have a fire on a few occasions.

ThereisnoFinWay · 30/03/2015 12:30

If you have us a beer when we were pitching up then yes it was you Wink

millimat · 30/03/2015 13:05

Ooh we went to a site least year and could have campfires and the children loved it. That may well sway the decision ( apart from the obvious is it available!!).

OP posts:
hillbilly · 30/03/2015 13:28

Yes that was us ThereisnoFinWay Smile - I remember you had had a terribly long drive and looked in need!

ThereisnoFinWay · 30/03/2015 13:52

Grin Yes it had taken way longer to get there than we thought and had pissed it down all the way! It was very much appreciated Smile

I have now bought a side extension for our tent too as we were jealous of yours. We are off to Sardinia this year but may be back to les valades next year as the dses loved it.

millimat · 30/03/2015 19:48

I can't find anything on les valades about allowing camp fires?

Nodney · 30/03/2015 19:50

Beaulieu sur dordogne (les isles). Totally gorgeous on the banks of the dordogne. Weve been to Les Paradis mentioned upthread, really lovely too!

Stillwishihadabs · 30/03/2015 19:57

I holidayed there as a child took the dcs last year. Hasn't changed a bit in 25 years !! My vote is for less chene vert.

millimat · 30/03/2015 20:01

Wow I've got lots to Google! Thanks everyone!
