Camping near Lake Annecy, France

Really, really want to go there this year and had my hopes on one of the waterpark Campsites. Just tried to reserve online and the three I've looked at are all full (Europa, L'ideal, and La Fontaine). Has anyone camped near Lake Annecy on a good campsite? We'll be there for 4 days (happy to pay for the 7 if need be) and waterslides would be outstanding.

Plan B would be to stay on a quieter campsite, enjoy the lake and town but also try to get a cable car up to higher ground for a bit of a walk (not hiking though).

We're driving from Calais and the final destination is Provence so we're looking at 2-3 camping stops on the way down. We're taking a week to get to Provence so would like to fit in as much as possible. We could always stop in a campsite with waterslides earlier in the journey.

Any help gratefully received.

We've stayed at Europa before. Have you exhausted all the options for reservations? So direct with the site as well as through The tour operators? The pool was good but this year we are staying at another site without a pool as we figure the lake will be a good alternative.

Another place to look at is around Lac du Bourget. Not far from Annecy but much quieter

I've done a huge amount of research for our holiday this year. Glad everything is booked now!

workJack, thank you. I'd not thought about booking through a tour operator. I've gone direct through the site and not had much luck. Do you mean Eurocamp? I'll look this evening after work.

I'll also have a look at the campsite you suggested. Has all your research been based around Annecy? Wanna share?!

I'm still very much in the planning stage. I booked our final destination in Provence last October so I fear I've relaxed somewhat too much for the longest part of the holiday! I'm driving from Calais and need another 2 stops. If you have any advice, I'd be grateful!

Having suggested to look at other tour operators, I don't think that any actually go to Europa, whoops! Have you tried La Ravoire? I spent ages trawling through everything listed on ukcampsite but couldn't find anything that ticked all the boxes. Which is why we've ended up with something without a pool!

Other sites that ended up on our short list were

Lac d'Orient as a stopover
Champ du moulin - there is a swimming pool next door
L'hirondelle

We also looked at all the Castels sites and the Ardeche area.

Best of luck!

Hi! We went [[http://www.camping-lac-bleu.com/gb/ ]] Camping du lac bleu last year. It is at the furthest end of the Lake from Annecy old town but is in a spectacular location. It has its own private beach and if you are luck you can get a pitch right on the lake side. There is a small pool but not a waterpark! The only downside we found (apart from breaking down but that's another saga!) was that the road back into Annecy town gets very busy and put us off venturing in because of the congestion. We stayed at Lac Orient on the way down, just outside Troyes.
