I put thus on chat but think you guys might be able to help.

So I desperately need a bit of extra storage space in my car for a camping trip. I can't afford a roof box and bars but I remember ages ago someone on here linked to a big box / tiny trailer that attached to the back of your car the same way that a bike carrier would.

I have googled and googled but can't seem to find anything like this. Can anyone help please?

You want to google hitch mount cargo carrier. I saw one the other day in Florida the brand was Rola, but it's $800+ on amazon. Thule do them also

I think you need a tow bolt for that Maureen.

You can hire roof bars and box if that would help.

I think you need the tow bar for most of them OP. There is a bag type one that attaches to a hatch with straps, can't remember what it's called, it didn't have great reviews though.

They do an edge carrier too for the top can be used without roof rack and is only $70

Thanks HerRoyal I looked at that and they will ship from America but it wouldn't arrive in time. I'm currently looking at an inflatable roof rack.

I always thought it was strange that nothing more was said of that product as it sounded amazing. Didn't aitch from mnhq test it? Maybe she knows more?

Also just read through that old thread and weblette was a neighbour of the manufacturer so if you find her the mystery may be solved?
