I have a specific les Valades question...

I know a number of people on here have been, are going etc so I hope someone will be able to help. I've emailed the campsite twice in the last week and had no response (which is a bit worrying in itself!)

We have hired a fridge from them but we don't have an EHU lead, do we need to take one or is it provided with the fridge we hire? If we do need to take one can somebody point me in the right direction for adapters and so on.

Thanks!

We have paid around 50 euros for 10 days fridge hire. Can't wait now!

Flossiechops · 08/08/2013 14:26

Yes slubber the actions at Les Valades!!

SoullessButSunny · 08/08/2013 15:37

Thanks Flossie!

maishoffwcingras · 08/08/2013 15:41

just got an email from the owner saying they'd received my deposit & that the balance would be due the day before we leave

Flossiechops · 08/08/2013 15:58

Me too Smile

maishoffwcingras · 08/08/2013 16:24

excited now! we're off in 10 mins (going somewhere else first), picking our airbeds up in argos on the way Grin

Lucycat · 08/08/2013 18:10

Les Valades - yes it's still cash for the balance of your stay but they seem to have installed a free cash machine in reception.
Serignan is a bit of a shock to the system tbh as it is very much a holiday village in the Med. Cheesy entertainment which can be avoided though. The pool is lovely and they have recently (end of June) opened a new water area for little ones (age 10 and under) but my two loved it - as did dh and I Grin The beach is stunning, my two have been swimming at 9pm most nights when it's deserted. The takeaway pizzas are also highly recommended, homemade in less that 10 mins with a barquette of frites - yum.
Slubber - are you camping or (whispers) caravanning like us down here with air con & a fridge freezer?

Lucycat · 08/08/2013 18:18

Les Valades follow up - we had a scorching week and temps didn't drop below about 19c but keep checking meteofrance as it has possibly changed. Meals are cheapish about 10e.
slubber I recommend getting the all inclusive wifi - it's v fast and about 22 euros for the week. There is a lovely craft hut where the kids can make 'treasures' from shells etc with a lovely hippy lady & Dutch children. if you can ditch the dcs then the Balneo is amazing - adults only Greco-Roman bath dooda -
Lots of rain here last night but clear blue skies & high temps today. Shame we leave on Saturday Sad

Am pleased someone else had no response to their email, I was worried!

I've no idea how much it cost to hire the frodge, it was so long ago that I booked. I must check it out tonight, and make sure we have the balance in Euros.

I'll work on the assumption that all UK people are mnetters and probably won't go too far wrong from the sounds of it! We are obvious as a family but are holidaying with a friend and her DC's this year.

We leave after this weekend but am very jealous of those already on the move. Is there a good website for French weather forecasting? I'm tormenting myself with visions of cold rain rather than the hot sun I'm hopinig for!

I've had to email them again as I've just realised I've booked a night short. Damn it they probably won't reply but looking at the website it isn't full so hopefully we will be ok. The fridge in 5.50 euros per day. I think your right on your assumption hairy I've never met any real life mumsnetters before!

hillbilly · 08/08/2013 18:29

This is hilarious - looks like there will be a few of us! Fridge was about 5 Euros a day I think. It's on the website under booking and Tariff details I think. Just bought an Outwell electric coolbox to supplement beer/wine/cheese storage!

Lucycat - I'm Confused about what EHU cabling and adapters I need. Enlighten me please Grin

Slubberdelatrinae · 08/08/2013 18:29

Craft hut sounds like a goer Lucy. Did you partake of the spa with or without clothes?

We are tenting of course, two little back pack tents are all set to go Smile

Oh yes, will we need to bring the rock pegs, what's the ground like if you can bear to stoop to examine it from your caravaaaaaaaan?

Lucycat · 08/08/2013 21:48

bring mozzie stuff too slubber - you're out in the old swamp lands Wink
ground is sandy vv sandy.

and spa was 'textile' not 'naturiste' Smile

SoullessButSunny · 09/08/2013 08:25

Lucy Do you think citronella candles are enough or do we need the spray you put on yourself as well?

So excited! We're leaving tonight to stay near the chunnel because we have a very early train tomorrow.

hillbilly · 09/08/2013 11:14

I'm taking incense and Skin So Soft to ward off mozzies.

Lucycat · 09/08/2013 14:24

Souless if you are up at the top of the site at Les Valades then you won't get bitten - we certainly weren't but dh was bitten when fishing in the lake at the bottom of the site - so it really depends on where you are. I'd use a spray or cream rather than the candles.
Unfortunately we are leaving the south tomorrow - all the Dutch are heading home to leaving the English who have descended on the south in their droves! It's all Boden by the pool now. Stiff offshore breeze making the beach tricky today Sad
slubber are you bringing a tarp? there isn't a great deal of shade in the camping section but there is a great new park area for the kids.
have you looked at the website 'Camping streetview'? a chap cycles round lots of sites with a camera on his bike helmet to show you what the sites are like. It's my new favourite Smile

hillbilly · 10/08/2013 08:08

Lucycat - We have a pitch booked at the bottom fairly near the pool/lake. Is that quite shaded? Also how far a walk is it to the reception? Would you say it's better camping at the top?

Flossiechops · 10/08/2013 12:50

Hillbilly - I didn't see an option for booking an actual pitch, I've requested one by the lake/pool as its close for the dc but I suspect everybody would prefer the same!

hillbilly · 10/08/2013 20:21

Flossie - I looked at the map and specifically asked for a particular pitch. They said yes.

thekitchenfairy · 20/07/2014 10:57

... We are off to Les Valades next month this thread is really helpful. Dreading the long drive from Roscoff down but so excited about staying at this site. I think I will hire a fridge rather than buy a mahoosive cool box. WineWine

They have emailed to confirm booking and asked us if we have a pitch preference... I have no idea from looking at the map... Should we ask to be at the top? Or the bottom by the lake?

Thanks!

thekitchenfairy · 20/07/2014 18:52

Bump...

hillbilly · 20/07/2014 23:04

Ok so have a look at the map on their website. Most of the pitches are at the top and they are separated by hedges mostly or on areas under tall tress. Down by the pool there are the most wonderful pitches which are numbered 50 something to 60 something. They are in the trees but face out the the field hence having sun and shade. In my opinion these are the best. However there are some pitches that have their own shower and loo facility but have no shade whatsoever. Different folks different strokes if you know what I mean it's a great campsite and I'm sure you will enjoy it regardless of where you pitch. New owners last year and they seem to be making some good changes, not that there was anything wrong with the palace before.

hillbilly · 20/07/2014 23:06

So I would say down by the lake definitely!

thekitchenfairy · 21/07/2014 13:04

Thanks Hillbilly! I thought lake too, DS are 8&11 so more than capable of walking up to the top...

I am ridiculously excited. Ive wanted to stay here for years!!

Thanks for your reply Smile
