We bought an in car charger for our kindles and blackberrys. But we were doing a lot of miles so wasn't a problem for our battery.

Are those solar chargers any good?
Do any campsites have charging stations for phones etc? I see them more and more, at airports, at our local cinema.

Blu and random we bought a power monkey explorer for our long trip last year. Was absolutely fab for charging up dh's iPhone and my kindle (the only electronic gizmos we took). Fully charged up during a day in the sun, or you can charge it up easily in the car as you are driving about and then we'd plug in whatever (the iPhone really) overnight and it would be fully charged in the morning.

Wouldn't want to use it on more power hungry devices such as DSis/iPads etc.

We tried a solar phone charger last summer, in the Scillies, it didn't work very well but it wasn't the sunniest time. I will check out that power monkey thing, thanks. I wondered if I could use the car phone charger to charge the kindle, I sometimes charge it with a mains plug phone charger. I'm probably on the wrong board to ask about kindle gimmicks, but I bought it partly for holidays and travelling.

Yup Fennel, it's a bit of a design fault, needing full sunny sun to charge it up, oh wait, no, other way round. We have a design fault with the British summer, not the solar charger Grin

The power monkey thing comes with all manner of charging ends (in a natty little draw string bag) so on long car journeys we had a multi cigarette charger thing thus, with one hole for the dds DVD players, one hole for charging the iPhone and the last one for charging up the power monkey +/- the kindle attached to charge that too.

Tbh I think in the full 6 weeks away I only needed the charge the kindle 3 or 4 times. If I hadn't kept on turning 3G on to (attempt) post on the mn camping chat thread I might have got away with not charging it at all.
It was dh's iPhone that was power hungry.

Sad Monsoon downpour here. We're booked for Wowo for three nights on sunday and I was so bloody excited at finally going to a real woodlands campsite and cooking off the fire, etc. Booked months ago when nobody, even in worst nightmares, suspected what we were in for. And we paid it all up front too, because they were booked to the hilt. Grrrr.

Will I be more pissed off to lose £185 blardy pounds (my mother has just helpfully pointed out that I could have booked a nice cottage somewhere over the weekend for that Hmm) and stay dry and unmuddy, or should we take our bell and besnotten family to camp in a swamp and talk about how we won't let the weather stop us doing what we want to?

Quenelle · 06/07/2012 14:00

Will you your DC ruin your week by sulking if you don't go?

CaveyInTheMaillotJaune · 06/07/2012 18:54

Have you binned it then Reshape or are you still mulling it over?

Fucking shit weather Angry

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2012 19:04
