Have just bought one of these instead of a Malu awning, to use with my bell tent. It seemed like a bargain. Now I just have to figure out how to put it up.

Gorgeous tent, but why sell after only 18 months?

We bought the Quechua tarp while on holiday in France the other week. It's very useful if you don't have a porch or any other shade or shelter for cooking as part of your tent.

It is quite big, more than covers our big table and 5 chairs (for 3 of us Hmm I think I'm a Chair Hun). It didn't survive strong winds the way we had erected it though, fortunately some kind neighbours dismantled it and put it in our tent for us when we were out and a thunder storm hit the campsite.

We intend to buy a couple of longer poles so we can get more height. Some neighbours on our site had one strung completely off the ground between trees and their beautiful DeWaard tent and it looked fantastic (and didn't blow away). They also had the only pitch with a view overlooking the valley Envy I wish I'd taken a surreptitious picture. It was a truly beautiful set-up.

Anyway, I digress, we definitely need to practice putting it up in different ways, preferably with handy trees nearby. It also packs really small. I'm pleased with it. Definitely worth the 100km roundtrip to buy it.

I failed miserably at making the Lidl tarp into any sort of useful porch for the bell tent, once it was pitched. Perhaps due to the fact that i was doing it single handedly. The unusual shape didn't help. Also, there were actually only two eyelets for inserting poles or the A frame spoke into, which restricted the way it could be joined. More practice / ingenuity needed. Not quite the bargain I was hoping for.

I used the loops on the other sides for shoving poles into seemed to work

So, how do you put the pigging thing up then?

Migsy1 · 22/06/2012 19:48

With 3 people, several extra guy ropes and a few disagreements Wink

Caerlaverock · 22/06/2012 19:57

I did it all by myself
