First thread so be gentle please!

The tent-addicts and campervan people have their own quiches; so I thought we caravan types might like a place to hang out too.

So far, DH, DS and I have been away 4 times this year in our Adria - we are trying to use it at least one weekend a month, on a cheap m cheerful sote where possible, with 2 longer breaks over the summer.

Come tell tales of central heating, an almost-proper bed, and inside toilets ;)

I have just cancelled France for our main summer holiday. My 17 year old son has just been to Cornwall with girlfriend and parents, and the week before I had to pay the balance I started thinking oh I wish I was going to Cornwall, so massive debate and Cornwall won. We are staying at Trevornick for 1 week. and then the second week, something we have never done whilst in Cornwall is tour. We are going to Lands End, St Agnes, Looe then Tintagell, all for 2 nights. So it will be a very varied main holiday.

Hi all, only just found this thread.

We have an 6 berth Avondale Dart. It was secondhand for us. We have had it several years now. It's a bit squished with all 6 of us and 2 dogs in though, especially a three dc's are now teenagers!

It is very good as an extension when the IL's come to stay, and we've used it at theirs too as they don't like our dogs in the house.

We've been to Park Coppice too. Loved it, especially the dog walking hill! We went for 2 weeks back in 2008 and it rained everyday but we loved the site.

Not booked anything this year yet, we've been doing alot of decorating so not sure we'll have enough money left for a holiday.

Huge thanks purple Eastham Hall is very close to where I need to be so may well do the trick Grin

Jins · 23/05/2012 16:49

I've just been cleaning and sorting - it's like an oven in the van

Picked up a couple of microfibre quilts that zip up into cushions at Lidl at the weekend for £7.99 each. They are really soft and may well come in handy on colder nights. Although since I've had my duvalay I've never really had a cold night. Has anyone lashed out on a duvalay? They have a sale after Xmas and it was the first thing I thought of when I got some cash as a gift :)

Can't wait to get away but it's a while until we can go somewhere. Might have to book a sneaky weekend at Leek CC site which is one of my favourites

tightwad · 24/05/2012 21:06

Yes we did that, cooked a big curry, took that cook in the bag rice and had that, oooh was lovely but caravan stank of curry for 2 days after Grin

Another thing we do is take proper plates & cups as we cant abide those plastic ones, awful.

We are off to Twymore nr Abbergele in Wales, anybody been? Any good, anywhere nice to visit near by for days out that you can recommend?

sleepwouldbenice · 25/05/2012 01:15

Hi all

just popping back on to mention that I live literally 5 mins away from the Wirral Country Park site so if anyone wants to ask me about local things to do feel free.... ignoring theiving scousers comment....Wink. seriously I would go there if I didnt live so close! In fact I am walking past it for a charity walk this weekend

We are booked for Bala the jubilee weekend, cant wait but hoping weather does not turn. Hope all those booked this weekend have great time

hairyqueenofscots · 27/05/2012 22:31

just checking in to say our weekend at the ranch was brilliant, weather didnt hurt though :) was so good we have left the caravan there and are heading back on friday x

DistantShip · 29/05/2012 20:29

Still got my pitch marker out Grin

Will be properly back on thread from Oban CCC site this coming weekend - yippee.

Life is getting in the way of caravanning and lurking in the rest of the MN world this last week or two .....

We are off to Hertford C & CC site this weekend. We've recently started storing our van there and they do a tow-out onto the pitch for you. Can't wait to get there and see the caravan already pitched! Heaven! Hertford is only about 5 miles away but it will still seem like a break - get away from all the decorating/refurbishing/garden-a-rubbish-tip jobs that hang over us every weekend Grin

DistantShip · 11/06/2012 20:24

lol at hairy thats cheating Grin getting 2 weekends for the hassle of one!

Hoping no-one got caught up in the flooding over the weekend; and that a fab half-term/jubilee break was had by all you intrepid caravanners.

We had a lovely time at Oban CCC site, apart from the entire midge population of Scotland also being there with the sole intent of eating me alive and leaving DH and DS without a single bite to compare to my hundreds Hmm. Got an e-mail today to remind me that we helped the successful world record attempt on the Monday for; wait for it . . . . . . . "most paper crowns in multiple locations in the UK".

Moved to a site near Killin - a bit meh but mainly because of the typical Scottish summer weather.

We have a 5 berth Avondale Dart - 13 years old now!!! Bought it 5 yrs ago when we used to do showing at the country shows but had a terrible time one year when it nearly sank in the mud and he put it away in the shed and forgot about it - had a luxury holiday abroad then, but with two very energtic young boys the thought of spending £4-5K on a nice holiday abroad just aint gonna happen! So facing facts its the only option but even though farmy country folk the weather terrifies me and practically long weekends are best for us as run a business also. Not entirely sure if my 6'3" husband is happy with the situation (stressed eric) but if we can get the awning up then there is more space.

Husband also has a tendancy to take chunks out of everything on it when moving it around the farm. I then have to run around with a mastic gun!

Think centre parcs is next on the agenda.

hairyqueenofscots · 13/06/2012 22:31

distant ship you are right, im all for a bit of cheating :) fancy that oban site, i love oban so much, not so fond of the midge though. next venture is the sands of luce site in stranraer x

busyboysmum · 15/06/2012 17:30

We cheated and have just got back from 2 weeks in Portugal - glad I did looking at this miserable weather! Will get planning our next caravanning trip as soon as the rain stops!

DistantShip · 16/06/2012 17:31

Hairy the Oban CCC site is fabulous and the staff assure me that early and late season are almost midge free. Next time we venture that way it'll be to Tralee at Benderloch instead as DS loves the beach.

Looking for recommendations for Edinburgh in mid August as we've just booked tickets for the Sesame Street Live show - how times change with DCs Confused
