We are reasonably well sorted when it comes to camping stuff, but I keep finding stuff to buy!

In the past week I have bought a 56l Icey-tek long box, a collapsible washing up basin, a new SIM for me (gelert adventure), some boots for DS and a windbreak...

Does it ever stop?

I have never known anyone to have stuff stolen from a campsite, apart from at festivals, I saw two lads getting robbed when they were sitting outside their own tent at Reading once. These blokes just pushed past them into the tent and tried to help themselves.

Of course we never leave high value stuff in the tent anyway.

topbannana · 25/04/2012 14:57

blu I love the way the Icey-Tek box falls under the heading of "pets and other loved family members"!

Blu · 25/04/2012 15:42

(I made it up about having Icey teks microchipped, of course Wink)

Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2012 16:02

I would be very very upset if someone nicked my tekster. It has travel stickers all over one side of places we visited last summer.

Blu · 25/04/2012 16:50

Have no fear, Slubber. The MN CIA (Camping Intelligence Agency) would be keeping an eye out for that easily recognisable tekster on sites throughout the land.

Don't look now ten because Obelink have the Palamos 6 back in stock It's been out of stock since last August - bargainous price for a cotton pyramid tent {smile]

yes I am extremely biased as I'd love to see more of us around!

Migsy1 · 25/04/2012 22:28

I love the look of that Lucycat and if I didn't already have a bell tent I would consider it. How easy is it to erect?

Lucycat · 26/04/2012 15:03

Really easy - lay the groundsheet out in the right place, and roughly peg out. Zip the canvas in top, (colour coded so you get it the right way round) then in goes the middle pole and then the front cross pole - voila! I worked that out from a Dutch translation - I found it worked best if you read it out loud in a Dutch accent Smile The thing that took us the longest was tying all the guy ropes on the first time we practice pitched it!

We clip a tarp on the front to crerate extra shade using clingons.

Migsy1 · 26/04/2012 16:06

Sounds as easy as the Bell Tent :)
Maybe when I upgrade..... Grin

muchostinky · 26/04/2012 16:58

Oh no, another tent for me to covet!!!! Grin

Slubberdegullion · 27/04/2012 11:00

Unless we win the lottery so I can afford a De Waard, the Palamos will be our next tent. We have the smaller (gallic) version of it but within a couple of years the dds will be wanting their own bedroom and I will be onto the Obelink site faster than a greased weasel.

Lucy then you and I can be pyramid twin buddies.

Migsy1 · 27/04/2012 11:21

Has anyone ever been to the Obelink megastore? Am I the only sad one that would like a trip to Holland just to look around this camping emporium? Blush

muchostinky · 27/04/2012 13:31

Migsy I would love to go there too! I have a funny feeling I would spend an awful lot of time and money there though....

Migsy1 · 27/04/2012 13:45

It would be fun though Grin

MrsMc82 · 27/04/2012 14:05

I'm currently looking for a roof box and bars for DH's skoda octavia just so that I can buy more "essential" camping stuff!!! Its adictive buying all these gadgets - thought I'd stop once I got my dream tent but it hasn't, mainly cos its so huge that I "need" to buy special space saving stuff like folding wash bowl mini towels and folding buckets just so we have space to fit it in that car but also cos this board is like camping gadget porn every day I'm lusting after another "essential" item! hehehe!!

(As an aside if anyone has any ideas where I can get a super cheap roofbox and bars that would be fab - even 2nd hand would do.... why are these plastic boxes so expensive????! Even the cheapy tesco ones seem a bit pricey to me!!)

Quenelle · 27/04/2012 14:18

Do you know anyone who would lend you one MrsMc? We're borrowing one from one of DH's colleagues, which means we only have to buy the roof bars. They are ridiculously expensive and most people only use them for a couple of weeks a year. We'd have nowhere to store one anyway.

Migsy1 · 27/04/2012 14:39

I've got some roof bars for a Vauxhall Zafira in my garage.

Quenelle · 27/04/2012 14:54

Do the roofbars you need depend on the make of roofbox as well as car? Or just the make of car?

Slubberdegullion · 27/04/2012 15:30

Migsy I went to the Vrijbuiter superstore in Holland last year, I imagine quite similar to Obelink. Seriously if I didn't have a pelvic floor of steel I may have become a little incontinent with the sheer unadulterated pleasure of it all. And a whole section of every single De Waard tent pitched indoors...

SalomeD · 27/04/2012 16:14

Shock Slubber, I glanced at your message and thought you posted that you'd been to a Vibrator superstore!

(I expect they have those in Holland)

Plus all the talk of your pelvic floor seemed and unfathomable joy I started to wonder whether I was still in 'Camping'!!

Slubberdegullion · 27/04/2012 16:47

I could write a post about the sexual merits of Dutch canvas tents vs vibrators but I won't as this is indeed the Camping topic.

MrsMc82 · 27/04/2012 17:38

Oh please do Slubber it is Friday after all :0 ..........
actually I could prob do a Blush post re tents in general vs vibrators haha!

Thanks Migsy and Quenelle - I think the bars a sort of specific to your car but not to the box.....tho I am finding it all quite confusing! Have just popped a "wanted" on my local free cycle board , think I might just need to sto being a tight-wad and get one as we'll prob use it at least once a month but the prices just make me grrrrrrr!

NonnyMuss · 28/04/2012 09:21

Roof bars are specific (make of car and models vary as well, older Zafiras have a different setup to newer ones for example) but the boxes aren't specific.

We bought cruz roof bars from roof box.co.uk which were cheaper than most others we looked at and are fine, and picked up a roof box for £60 off eBay.
The extra space definitely makes things easier more room for cushions and rugs and fairy lights :o
