We are reasonably well sorted when it comes to camping stuff, but I keep finding stuff to buy!

In the past week I have bought a 56l Icey-tek long box, a collapsible washing up basin, a new SIM for me (gelert adventure), some boots for DS and a windbreak...

Does it ever stop?

Oh, and a camp kitchen and a table. [embarrassed]

A HOW BIG Icey tek? Wow.

yes, stop buying stuff! I have made fo with a modest Icey Tek and a cheapo smaller tent!

Blu · 23/04/2012 20:20

Made do, that would be.

muchostinky · 23/04/2012 21:08

I know Blu, I think my OH is wishing he hadn't decided on that one (it was him and not me) but it is him who has to fit it into the car! We might have to leave DS at home to fit it in!

We will have plenty of room for beer and kopparberg though, so should be good!

What's an Icey tek long box? I keep seeing them mentioned on camping threads but have no clue!! I love camping but we're novices!

thrifty · 23/04/2012 21:20

LOL, stinky, I have the same problem, this year we are camping from my car, which has much less room than dp's, and as I'm doing camp bestival first I figured I need lots of new lightweight and small kit. I have bought a new pop-up tent, collapsing washing up bowl, new tiny cooked and pan set, new tiny tables, and inflatable wedges, a new espresso maker, and am currently on the hunt for a smaller but good cool box, cos mine is massive. I am also debating getting a trolley to lug it all on.

thrifty · 23/04/2012 21:22

Icytek are the Porsche of cool boxes, they start at about 100 quid.

iloveACK · 23/04/2012 21:29

Oooh - sounds good. Sorry for hijack, but why are they so good?

Blu · 23/04/2012 22:01

iloveACK, because they are a far superior build than ordinary coolboxes which just have a vacuum between the inner and outer walls. Icey teks and Yetis have some ...some...I don't know some stuff that gives excellent insulation, so that they keep stuff frozen for days and days - far more effective than other non-electric cool boxes. Not quite £100 - an Icey tek 25l is £89, and there is a MN code you can use at the moment to get free postage (whihc saves you about £12). They also come in v cool colours and look great.

Blu · 23/04/2012 22:02

Icey Tek

muchostinky · 23/04/2012 22:30

Mine is orange, it is a thing of beauty! We can use it as a seat too!
Not cheap at all though, I am hoping it lasts years and years and years (it bloody better!) Grin

It is OK to buy loads of camping stuff. Think of the money you are saving on hotels! Grin

NonnyMuss · 23/04/2012 22:58

On the plus side with a 56l IceyTek you won't have room for much more stuff...

iloveACK · 23/04/2012 23:02

Thanks Blu! Looks like I need to start buying stuff Op! Grin

muchostinky · 23/04/2012 23:49

Nonny - Thankfully we have a Scenic, so it's not too bad. OH is talking about removing two of the back seats just to make sure though.

DS is going to be well packed in, hopefully we don't have to stop for a wee on the way or anything!

ACK they are lovely and will definitely last a while as they seem robust -wouldn't necessarily recommend the size that we have though, unless you need it!

I want to buy stuff but the only thing I've managed to convince DH we need this year is a collapsible colander. It's not so much the cost, it's the clutter. DH hates having a tentful of stuff, he likes it minimalist.

We have a Scenic too. It was full to bursting when we went away for 4 nights last year. This year we're going for two weeks. And as food is so much more expensive in France we're taking a lot of non-perishable stuff with us. We're going to have to borrow a roofbox and buy the roof bars for it.

topbannana · 24/04/2012 14:58

Ooh thanks for the link blu, definitely suffering from major Icey-Tek envy now! Envy

piprabbit · 24/04/2012 15:05

Do people not nick all this kit while campers are off enjoying themselves? Do you need to repack all your kit and take it with you in the morning and then set-up again each night? Or does someone need to stay with the tent at all times?

Blu · 24/04/2012 19:08

We just zip our stuff into the tent - have never known anything get nicked. Last year we left DS's cherished and wildly overpriced genuine Chelsea shirt hanging from a tree on a site full of small boys and it didn't get nicked.

Tables and chairs stay out, chairs tipped up in case of rain.

piprabbit · 24/04/2012 21:40

Sounds like a little civilised oasis Grin.

Blu · 24/04/2012 22:50

That possibly depends on the site......

muchostinky · 24/04/2012 23:24

That's very true Blu :o

We left some bits and pieces outside on an overnight trip to Dartmoor. It rained while we were out and when we got back, to add to it all our stuff had been stolen. We were livid until we found some lovely person on the site had popped it inside the tent for us out of the rain :)

Despite that I have a proper laptop rucksack with little pockets for the camera, i-Phone, DS's 3ds, and other small high value stuff. Generally that is locked in the cubby in the car or one of us carries it around- it is the golden rule it is never put down but passed from DH to me when visiting the loo etc. One of us always stays with the tent when the other goes to the showers etc. unless "the bag" is packed. We are not paranoid but it seems silly to take risks.

Having said that, when I convince DH that an Icey Tek cool box is ESSENTIAL equiptment I shall have to take that with me as well :o

Blu · 25/04/2012 10:11

I believe you can get Icey teks microchipped, like other pets and loved family members.

aaaah at the person who kindly put your stuff out of the rain!
