Is anyone going?

I've never been before and have questions...

Do we need camping plus?
Will the showers be a nightmare?
How much does food cost?

Any tips?

Am home, left at 10am, home by 2.30. Three loads of laundry later, I'm about to sink into a bath. We had fab showers but, Oh! how I'm looking forward to those bubbles!

Grockle · 30/07/2012 20:23

Ooo, we loved it! Got home after midnight last night and jumped straight in the shower - without having to queue for 40 minutes! Then a lovely soak in the bath before reality hit home and I stuffed the washing machine and headed off for the Supermarket.

We had such a great time- I was disappointed with Rolf but so impressed with Chic & Bellowhead. Ate great food, DS loved the wall of death. We bumped into lots of old friends (including some MNers) and made some new ones too. I wish I could live at Camp Bestival - life is better with neon facepaints and flowers in your hair.

it was awsome! Front row of Kool and the Gang, Adam Ant and Jimmy Cliff were fab. Went to see Jimmy Carr last night but had to leave as was seeing double. Blush

Did anyone see Samantha Janus? I had to tell dh to put his tongue back in several times.

Nicnocknoo · 30/07/2012 23:16

We loved it! It was our first time but won't be our last. Happy Mondays and the finale were worth hanging around for - amazing show. Ds1 loved the Wall of Death, Ds2 loved the chocolate pancakes. I just loved lazing around in the sunshine soaking up the atmosphere (and the Pimms).

Glad we paid for Camping Plus - Showers on the Go made it worth the money. Toilets were better there at the start of the weekend but the portaloos were more appealing this morning as less stinky!

And yes - dh saw Samantha Janus.

Grockle · 31/07/2012 19:29

There was a fair bit of Pimms here too (snuck in in water bottles Blush). The Wall of Death was utterly terrifying.

I think we'll do Camping Plus next year.

sailorsgal · 31/07/2012 20:13

my friend paid £27 for a jug of Pimms. Shock

fivegomadindorset · 31/07/2012 20:17

The £27 included a £5 deposit which she should have got back.

sailorsgal · 31/07/2012 20:31

She didn't tell me that bit! we were too far gone by then

Grockle · 31/07/2012 20:34

Yes, we ran out so had to buy a jug - was lovely and cold but £27 Shock

I made sure I returned the pitcher!

I never understood why people needed to 'sneak' in alcohol?

I never once saw anyone checking for it.

DontCallMeBaby · 01/08/2012 12:51

You'd hardly need to check, it was pretty blatant! I guess it's a bit of a useful rule though - you can ignore it if people are behaving themselves, but if they're too lairy you've got the no booze rule to fall back on.

I can live with the prices for the sake of getting a nice cold can and not having to lug a cool box around, plus it stops me over-doing it! Our camp booze didn't work as well as last year, very cold on Thursday, not so much on Friday after spending a sunny day in a tent, in an inadequate cool box.

Anyway, delighted to see that our girls have been deemed cute enough for pride of place on Wagamama's Facebook today! Grin

IHeartKingThistle · 01/08/2012 13:00

There's a no booze rule?

We had a great time, I'm slowly whittling down the washing mountain now!

Impressive finale we thought, I missed most of the happy Mondays as I was jumping around in the bollywood tent to rodigan.

Also enjoyed sitting on the grass beside the castle slating Adam ant with fivegomad and her friends Wink

BerryLellow · 01/08/2012 13:23

Couldn't tear ds1 away from the hula hoopy field!

fivegomadindorset · 01/08/2012 18:53

Last year there was a massive problem with drunk teenagers, hence the reason for the no booze, but seeing as there were not alot of teenagers there as the parents cannot just dump and run anymore then the rule I guess was relaxed.

StarlightWithAsteroid · 01/08/2012 21:40

Five, - I didn't meet you in the baby tent did I?

fivegomadindorset · 01/08/2012 21:45

I didn't go to a babytent, went to soft play but DS is just 4.

DontCallMeBaby · 01/08/2012 22:41

Five, do you know what they did differently with the traffic this year? It was easy as anything in both directions, thought it was just our timing but several people on the forum have said it was much better than its been before.

I think I want to go back. I just wish I could win the lottery and go to Boutique in a mahoosive yurt.

Grockle · 02/08/2012 21:43

We're booking next year's Camping Plus pitch tomorrow!

OP posts:
fivegomadindorset · 02/08/2012 21:43

I don't know, we are on the corner by the army camp, so inbetween green and yellow car parks. I was at work but DH said there was a steady stream of traffic but no queues. I had friends just the other side of Warehma though who said the queues were bad. There were police everywhere on the Monday morning directing traffic.

Grockle · 02/08/2012 21:47

I reckon I was chatting with an MNer in a queue - she was discussing the merits of organic milk whilst a Joules-clad children (Tilly, Olive & others whose names I cannot remember).

OP posts:
fivegomadindorset · 02/08/2012 21:49

definitely not me Grin I don't see the point of organic milk (disclaimer as a family we have just given up dairy farming)

BerryLellow · 03/08/2012 08:49

Dithering about whether to buy tickets today or not...

DontCallMeBaby · 03/08/2012 10:11

I am pretending to give careful consideration to next year. In reality my consideration goes like this:

DD will make my life not worth living if we don't go.

My only doubts come when I read bad reviews, and wonder if we might have a not-so-good time if we went next year ... but they seem to be mostly from people with major persecution complexes ('no one personally told me the massive number of water points from which people were filling their water bottles from was fit for drinking, this must have been a cynical ruse to make me buy expensive bottled water all weekend'*, for instance).

  • I paraphrase slightly
Grockle · 03/08/2012 10:34

i want to book but I'm dithering too. No idea why!
