I can't offer you any advice but I am marking my place as we are on the verge of buying our first van.

Ohforfoxsake · 13/03/2012 22:03

I have a 1973 T2 Superviking. Smile yet to do any over nights, but he is fab and fits the 6 of us.

ledkr · 13/03/2012 22:06

im like snowmummy We are probably going for a mazda bongo

Hebiegebies · 13/03/2012 22:09

T5 rising top here.

Now kids are older we have pop up tent we throw out the door for one child to sleep in, or dh and DS.

Go for just one night first, even if it means camping on drive. Best way to discover what you need

snowmummy · 13/03/2012 22:20

Hi ledkr. I remember you from when your baby was born - she had a cleft didn't she? My eldest was born with a cleft - he's now 7. How is your DD?

We want a VW T4. We considered the bongo but I don't think it'd be big enough for the five of us.

Jammygal · 13/03/2012 22:33

Hello to you all........how old are your kids Hebiegebies ?
Good tip about first night on drive etc....will mull that over ;)

Anyone coming to VWAction Southwest in April?

ledkr · 13/03/2012 22:39

Oh yes hi (sorry for brief hijack) she is good thanks, had the repair at 9 months is now 13 months with no problems as yet and eating well. Its amazing. People who supported me on here got me through it so thanks.

We would like a vw but they do hold their price dont they? We have 4 weeks booked off in the summer so hope to go off in it.

PurplePidjin · 13/03/2012 23:01

The older end of the market do, but you have to keep on top of repairs kicks dp

The bug just made a £600 hole in my bank account having flown through his MOT last year. Kevan the camper was bought for £2200 and would be worth more like £4500 if we sorted the boggles out (lower half respray, seatbelts in the back, half an hour in the jetwash etc)

QuietOhSoQuiet · 13/03/2012 23:03

humph, when me and xp split I got the kids and he got the camper and bug humph :( Blush :o

Jammygal · 14/03/2012 07:16

Where is vwaction southwest purplepidjin? Whats it like ?

I haven't been to any vwfests but think it might be something to check out!

quietohsoquiet that hardly seems fair! Grin

www.vwaction.com/vwactionsw/

Stithitians in Cornwall. It's a new show, more to celebrate a bunch of folk making it all the way from John O'Groats the week before than anything else, but I know the organizers dp is one of them and it'll be a good show Grin

www.big-bang.co.uk/index.htm

Then I'll be at Big Bang at Santa Pod, Northamptonshire dp also working at it which is a fantastic family show. Tbh the only one you don't want the kids at is Bug Jam, everything is is family-oriented :)

Hebiegebies · 14/03/2012 09:27

My kids are now 13 & 10, they were 7 and4 when we got the van and could share the top bunk. As they are girl and boy it's become impossible for them to share now.
Dh actualy likes sleeping in tent so dd joins me on bottom bed and DS has the top bunk if it's just a night or if DS thinks its too cold to go outside Grin

Our van is a newer one as we need it for our second car and need reliability, it's not cost much till this year

snowmummy · 14/03/2012 11:24

We're definitely getting ours. Put the deposit down this morning. :)

PurplePidjin · 14/03/2012 13:02

Ooh snowmummy, what you getting?

snowmummy · 14/03/2012 14:36

We're getting a VW Westfalia multivan

Jammygal · 14/03/2012 15:31

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 14/03/2012 15:39

snowmummy · 14/03/2012 17:01

Tis a T4

Kestra · 14/03/2012 17:06

We have a 1979 bay which is about to have a lovely new paint job in time for the shows this yr as a treat for passing its MOT which was a BIG surprise!

SherlockHolmes · 14/03/2012 17:14

Bongo here. Are we allowed to join you VWers??

PurplePidjin · 14/03/2012 17:16

Bongo friendee here too. About to go back on the road for the summer thanks to a bargain insurance quote on admiral multiple-car.

Lots of day trips and about 7 overnight trips last summer, ranging from a night to a week. great for ling days at the beach and picnics when it's cold/wet. We put the bikes in the back and zoom off for the day. It's great.

We have a base tent that works like an awning and put a little porta-potty in there for night time emergencies. DCs sleep in the roof and DH and I downstairs.
