Hello, can I join? We have a type 2, tin-top with twin sliding doors. (Although the passenger side sliding door can't be used at the moment, as it's been overdue for replacement for far too long.
)
This is our 5th (or 6th, I forget [buconfused]) type 2 and we've had this one for 10 years now. All our previous vans bar the first (which was a Dormy) were Westy's, which we enjoyed restoring. We sold our last Westy when ds1 was born, as it was completely restored and we thought we wouldn't be happy watching as it got wrecked through constant, mud, sand, dog-fur etc. That's when we bought this one and its been a real fun work-horse that we can charge around in with the dcs and until recently 3 dogs (just got the 2 dogs now) without stressing about it getting wrecked.
Cowboy, as he is affectionately known, is very basic inside. Just a full width Westy r&r bed and a sink, cooker and storage unit across the bulkhead. We have 3 dcs and when we go away dd (3) sleeps in the cab bunk, ds1 and 2 have the bed with dh and I end up in the awning on my own.
We have plans to overhaul the interior a bit, but not until we've finished with the bodywork.
We are currently looking at a huge bill for some welding and bodywork before we can use the camper this year and wondering if we'll actually manage it. We need a new passenger-side sliding door (obviously) - which are as rare as hen's teeth and cost £££s, welding to the rear quarter and passenger-side rear wheel arch and a whole new rear-side panel on the same side. Once this is done, we will finally have finished all the essential work that needs doing, but looking at the cost, we may well be going on holiday in the car instead this year.
Our dcs consider the van part of the family and won't hear of us changing it for one with a pop-top so we can all fit inside to sleep. Easy for them to say, seeing as it's not them that has to sleep in the awning.

Jammygal, my ds1 is small for his age and slept in the cab-bunk until he was 8.
