Ewelease this weekend

Anyone else going to Ewelease this weekend? The weather forecast is not looking great so far and we are fairweather campers..........

Have you got a 4 wheel drive because the entry/exit road is scary when wet!

No we haven't! Very annoying that we have paid up front and may not end up going although I guess it's the risk you take.

I've booked from Sun for the last 4 days. Weather doesn't look great, specially on Sunday, does it? I think we might still go, just to get away for a last summer fling and then be prepared for all the drying out and cleaning up afterwards. Kids won't care.

How scary is scary? Errr, not sure now.

We have just come back, after the torrential rain and flooding last week, we had no problem getting in and out of the campsite.

I went a few years ago and it was dry the whole week I was there but had rained badly for the week before and the site was like a mudbath in places. Getting cars in and out the fields was hard and many had to be pulled out as got stuck but we always got up and down the track OK.

DS and I going on Sat for 4 nights. First time camping too.... Any recommendations for which field to head to?

We stayed in Flat field, it is fairly near the showers, not too far to walk to the sea, and a bit more sheltered if things get a bit windswept!

I think there are 2 fields that don't allow cars (apart from when pitching up and taking down), both ones with beach views. They give you a map at reception when you book in, with all the fields on, and each field has a sign at the entrance.

I can't really remember which fields is the least sloping, but you can drive around when you get there to find a good spot.

Hello Captain! I think if you go to their website and go to the booking log in section right at the bottom of the page, then you can see what space they have available. But they are usually booked up quite a way in advance.

I think the non-car fields are both pretty sloping, unless you pitch right on the top, which will be windy!

We went last year. Dry while we were there, but very muddy around the entrance gates, and slippery on the way out. They closed the 'exit' track for a while as it was so slippy, and only use the 'entrance' track.

I've just realised we now have a trailer, so will avoid Eweleaze from now on-don't fancy reversing on that track with the trailer!

One year the farmer had to tow everyone out with his tractor. Lmao. I loved Eweleaze farm for years and years. However it is so popular now it has lost it's appeal lol

Until about 4 years ago you didn't even need to book you could just turn up. It was only after it was posted in a national newspaper as a hidden gem type thing that booking became a requirement. Last year we decided after years of going there that we won't be going back.

CaptainNancy - If we decide not to go do you want our pitch? We have paid for 2 adults and 2 children for Fri, Sat and Sun night. We will decide on Friday morning whether or not to go.

Even when it was raining very heavily last week, we were still able to get in and out ok in our Zafira. I would say if you were going and the forecast is bad, then head for a field fairly near the entrance, without too many hills to deal with (so Chicken field, Flat Field, Corner field). Take your wellies, crocs for the showers, antibacterial hand gel for the loos and take the kids to the communal barn so they can clamber on the haystacks and cuddle the guinea pigs, whilst you eat almond croissant (highly recommended!) and drink coffee.

We have just got back from Eweleaze - we stayed Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and left late yesterday afternoon. We had rain Saturday and Sunday mornings and it was still ok getting your car in and out (we have a Zafira). Also, I think Dorset had pretty heavy rain last week before we got there (Bournemouth was flooded so I can't imagine Eweleaze got off scot-free) and it was fine when we arrived.

We stayed in Point Field which is one of the car-free ones - there were quite a few flat spots in that field although I imagine they will be taken quite quickly over the bank holiday. Also, they were on the lower ground so you didn't get a view of the sea from your tent. Still lovely though and because it was one of the furthest from the exit it never felt massively crowded.

It was our first time to Eweleaze and we loved it - it never got noisy really even on the Friday and Saturday nights and there was a great feeling of relaxation about it.

Mind you, when we were packing up on the Monday, a big family group came in and grabbed the corner of our field, marking it out with cricket stumps and then making themselves a personal area with ginormo-tents, gazebos and windbreaks about three feet from our friends' campervan and awning. Totally unnecessary when the site had loads of space everywhere and in the end our friends (who are staying for the week) had to move their whole set up just to get some space from this group. We left shortly after so I don't know how noisy they were last night but they were definitely selfish. Shame really as most people staying at Eweleaze seemed lovely up to then.

We will definitely go back next year. I hope those of you who do decide to go this weekend have a wonderful time

Yes hillbilly- if you aren't going, we'd love to! Is it the weather putting you off though? (am a bit of a fairweather camper myself! ) It looks great though... and we have no plan B at the moment
