so I am fed up with the rest of MN (this whole mamazon shite really is the ,last straw), so I am assuming that if any of you are trolling you are showing extraordinary persistence by delving into the thrills of iceytec and are worth chatting to.

So anyway, hi, I am SeaShells, I have 2 dc and have been camping and trapsing through the Great Outdoors all my life. I hang out here as my love of camping is more a love of the countryside and life, and you lot have a similar outlook.

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2011 08:11

Happy birthday lovecat. Hope you get to enjoy some of all that cake you made.

SeaShells I'm not hopeful about the trainer. Left and Outside are not a good combination of finding words.

lostinwales · 06/07/2011 08:39

Happy Birthday lovecat!

notwavingjustironing · 06/07/2011 09:25

Happy Birthday Lovecat!

Good list. Mine looks nothing exactly like that.

Quenelle · 06/07/2011 09:37

Morning all.

Happy birthday lovecat Smile

If you get any more of that Omaha Beach campsite can you tell us? I'm making a list of good ones for my (so far imaginary) long holiday in France next year.

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2011 10:39

Most envious of all of you going this w/e, even if it is wet. I love just shutting the door on the Sisyphean mounds of housework and running away to a field somewhere.

Instead I shall be constructing Ikea flat pack furniture for dd2's bedroom which is so un-fun it hurts.

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2011 10:42

OH MY WORD.

It is as if the camping gods were watching me type that. Just as I pressed post the doorbell rang and there was the postie with my new box (box!) of 20 glow pro hard ground pegs.

Not sure what the pro bit is for.

I'm going to open them now....

Quenelle · 06/07/2011 10:45

I had no idea there was more than one type of tent peg. Obviously I need some of these pro ones. Do they glow in the dark?

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2011 10:48

If pegs were professional and had to study, take hard exams and follow a code of conduct then these pegs would be right there doing it.

And the tops glow, so they say. Will verify this tonight.

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2011 10:50

QUENELLE [series of very shocked emoticons]

Only one type of tent peg?!?! There are like BILLIONS of types of tent pegs (hyperbole).

My current love of socks is nothing next to my love of tent pegs.

Funtimewincies · 06/07/2011 11:51

Happy Birthday lovecat. It's never dull in Wales and even less so in the more, ahem, rural areas Grin.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2011 14:26

I have peg envy Envy

Happy Birthday lovecat :)

5ofus · 06/07/2011 15:59

Happy birthday Lovecat!

Working today - on a particularly dull conf call right now. Googling new camping gear keeping me happy Grin

Funtimewincies · 06/07/2011 19:46

Don't know if you've seen this yet WhereTheWild, but it look like an accident after all.

MisSalLaneous · 06/07/2011 19:48

Happy birthday, Lovecat! I trust you're having a fab evening.

Does anyone have rock pegs? The ground where we camped weekend before last was ok - not too soft, not too hard. Goldilocks would have loved it. However, had trouble with two of the pegs as there were stones just below ground level. Would rock pegs have made any difference? Took a good 10 mins to maneuver it in. And, if rock pegs are just hard pegs (I have no idea!), is there anything alternative you could do if you hit stones? Or just sloppy tent there if no option to move?

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 06/07/2011 21:11

Thank you Funtime, no, I hadn't, wtf were they thinking BBQing in a tent? Sad

Happy Birthday Lovecat, hope you are have a fantabulous daySmile

Slubber, have you checked out the glow of your pegs yet? And I need a link, I have no pegs of that description.

Rock pegs - check
Deltas - check
Spare wire pegs - check
Heavy duty wire pegs - check
Plastic V pegs - check
Glow pro hard ground pegs - nope

MisSalLaneous, rock pegs are fabby for hard, stoney ground, they are a dream to knock in when all around you are throwing horribly bent and mishaped pegs to the ground in frustration.

glitterkitty · 06/07/2011 21:30

Happy birthday lovecat. What a nice time of year to have a birthday.

WTWTW- that is peg obsessive. We just have 'pegs' and 'bent pegs'. When it is very windy I make DP go out and check them. They are always ok. Actually I love laying in bed in tent listening to tap tap of DP checking the pegs. Its very primal. Grin

Today I did our camping supermarket shop and bought a load of packet food things which were on special offer, like pasta in stuff and rice. Do you think they will taste of anything?

Slubber I'm glad you mentioned the sticky ominousness of the Cobb as I do have serious Cobb envy.

Forgot to buy the winebox too! Shock

MisSalLaneous · 06/07/2011 21:33

Ah brilliant, thanks Where. Will get some - dh gave up when we were pitching, so the alternative to me hammering away for hours (slight exaggeration) was having a sloppy tent.

lostinwales · 06/07/2011 21:53

glitterkitty, thank goodness for you, we too have 'pegs' and 'bent pegs', I was starting to worry that our big camping trip was doomed if we had less that 10 types.

glitterkitty · 06/07/2011 21:58

Where are you going again lost? Did you say upthread? I'm too tired to scan it again!

We are off to Swanage on Monday. Ooo I hope the rain has gone by then...

scaryt · 06/07/2011 22:16

Heck now I need to consider a bewildering array of pegs...chuff how am I going to get the bugger up?

WHICH HAS ARRIVED but is at my mum's so no playing til the weekend.

She's getting me a tarp too, eek am excited.

lostinwales · 06/07/2011 22:57

We are camping our way from Calais to the Alpe de Huez (Tour de France excited emoticon) then 6 nights in a Villa in Italy and then home by whichever route we fancy, if we're fed up straight back, could go via Switzerland or if we have money left across France in any direction we fancy, have tents will travel. It could all go terribly wrong!

scaryt · 06/07/2011 23:00

that sounds fantastic lost, am super jealous
