I am trying persuade DH that we need to take our girls to a family festival this year - Camp Bestival is out due to other family commitments so we thought we might try Just So/

Outwell. Bloody autocorrect.

troutpout · 16/08/2011 21:01

I seem to remember seeing milk for sale in the shop last year. You could take long life ?I am being ultra lazy this year and buying all our food there apart from breakfasts. Don't want to miss any festival by preparing food. Only taking a single burner for hot drinks.... Not bothering with table, fridge, crockery etc...leaving Montana 6 at home and taking our little tent.

kateecass · 17/08/2011 08:58

Was on the just so forum last night asking about where to empty out loo. Saw a post which says there will be a tuck shop which will sell milk. We were hoping to leave the roof box behind but may not manage it as we're off somewhere else after.

KellyKettle · 17/08/2011 09:16

Where can you empty the loo?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/08/2011 09:20

Not going as I've only just heard about it and its a little too late to arrange for us. Will be looking at going next year though as it looks so good.

Hope you all have a lovely time.

mel2005 · 17/08/2011 10:07

we are not taking a loo, just a travel potty for the kids because i dont think there is anywhere to empty it. i am hoping people will not empty and clean it out at the water points because of the risks of contamination. they should really say about this in the camping pack.
i am going to take bottled water, i know they are saying dont bring bottled water because of the damage to the environment BUT i cant risk my four children getting ill and i cant risk getting ill as i am in the hospital on wednesday next week to check if they got it all and to check my cancer hasnt spread, i really cant delay it any longer.

KellyKettle · 17/08/2011 10:28

Oh we'll be taking water too.

Surely people won't empty them there? They must have a plan. Empty them in the toilets?

My friend is a volunteer this year so I shall ask her.

mel2005 · 17/08/2011 12:45

i have read of people doing that at normal camp sites as some are quite big and people like to rinse them out.
i am just packing up the kitchen bits and kids clothes, the roof box is on, freezer bottles are almost frozen so i can prep the igloo. i am popping out to get the bbq meat later so they can go in the freezer. and i still have to give the bbq base a quick wash out so it doesnt drop charcoal dust anywhere.
will get all the bread and milk tomorrow afternoon and then i can load the car ready for friday.
the photos on the website look great, i am getting excited although it looks like it might rain.
dont forget your buckets and spades Grin

kateecass · 17/08/2011 13:59

Ick no, would never put it down the water point. I suggested down the toilet, organiser replied and said yes. It won't have chemicals in, just wee. We could cope with a toilet but my almost 3 year old DD will not sit on a potty!
Have got the kids on the Wii and just about to pack clothes. I very cunningly looked what the kids and I were wearing on our earlier camping trip and wrote it down so it shouldn't take too long!!

manamana · 17/08/2011 14:03

Yay, getting very excited. Ds wants to see the gruffalo eat the mouse this year though!

KellyKettle · 17/08/2011 17:18

mana my DD is so excited about seeing the Gruffalo. I'm laughing at the thought of it eating the mouse in front of all those kids.Grin

I have no lists, not bought food & I don't have the energy to do it tonight but I must.

I admire how organised you all are Smile

AndiMac · 18/08/2011 17:13

I'm with KellyKettle here, although organised enough to arranged sleeping bags and a mattress of some sort for all of us. It's absolutely pouring with rain here and I don't much feel like packing for camping, yet it has to get done. I am looking forward to the festival at least!

KellyKettle · 18/08/2011 18:15

Andi I've made a list! Well, 3 actually.
Equipment, clothes & food.

Now just to gather all of those things together & put them in the car.

mel2005 · 18/08/2011 21:31

car is all packed, igloo prepped and waiting to be filled in the morning. i am so hoping the roof box doesnt leak as all the bedding is in there and its raining really hard.
i am worried how muddy it will be there tomorrow, we have loads of wellies, jumpers and waterproofs.

mel2005 · 18/08/2011 21:32

see you all tomorrow

kateecass · 18/08/2011 21:59

I was just on website working out what to do when and it's just stopped working. Noo!!

See you tomorrow

AndiMac · 22/08/2011 18:23

Wasn't that fun? We had a great time.

mel2005 · 22/08/2011 20:54

we had a magical time, the children loved it (and so did we) would have been great to have a shower though. when we couldnt manage to get any water at all, as it had all been turned off at every waterpoint, we decided to pack up and go home, that was sunday dinnertime so we didnt miss that much. i am going to buy tickets for next year becaue i am sure they will sort the water problem out.

ChristinedePizan · 22/08/2011 20:59

I can't believe I didn't see this thread before! Got back around 5pm, had a brilliant time. Mel - I saw your gorgeous children in the field, they are quite hard to miss :o

It was such a shame about the lack of water though - apparently the site uses an underground reservoir and when it is below a certain level it just doesn't work. I wonder if they will have to make it smaller again next year? It just couldn't cope with requirements. Apart from that and the bloody people who insisted on driving their cars into the field to take down their tents (I hope there were no MNers but it really pissed me off - I had told the DC they were safe to run around because there were no cars so a parade of people carriers bearing down on them this morning made me very cross), it was wonderful and we are definitely going again next year. I am SHATTERED tho :o

KellyKettle · 22/08/2011 21:09

Hello! Yes it was lovely but we also gave up on Sunday because of the water problems. 7 months pregnant, no water & a feisty toddler wore my patience too thin.

We've decided not to rebook for next year. I might see how the feedback first.

Lilyloo · 22/08/2011 21:13

ooh was thinking of booking this next year , we did wilderness in oxford this year but was a bit of a drive for us , Just so would be nearer.
What were the issues ?

mel2005 · 22/08/2011 21:50

gosh christine i wasnt shouting at them was i Blush ? i am sure they got told off more over the weekend than they have all year.
we ended up with 2 from next door alot as well so i had 6 children in and out of the tent.
i am so glad we left on sunday if people were driving cars onto the field on monday, my lot were everwhere.
the person driving the golf buggy thing around at night did anoy me a bit as well as we were next to the track and he wasnt actually that far from my head so kept waking me up, i have to ask why he was ding it at 3am!!!
i was a bit grumpy as i managed to contaminate my food with gluten every day as well, and i burnt the BBQ as i was in such a hurry to get back to the festival and the children did drive us both mad jumping on the airbeds. they managed to burst one.
the main issue was water, the taps in our toilet block didnt even last the first night, the showers went off first morning and i didnt find them working again all weekend. when you went to the other toilets you couldnt get in for all the people brushing teeth and having a wash in the tiny sinks. we boiled water and put it in the washing up bowl and washed in the tent. i did try to wash my hair but it wasnt that great. the nearest tap was off from sat morning and it was a walk to the other taps which didnt always work. the toilets were cleaned and pumped out alot during the day as they did block up alot but with 100s of childen its going to happen.
BUT
we did have a great time and we will be going back hopefully even if we book day tickets and stay at a local campsite. i am sure the water problem will be sorted. the festival is really lovely and magical and we did love it.

Hulababy · 22/08/2011 21:56

Don't forget to take your own glo sticks. Festivals charge a fortune for them and they are readily available int he poundsshops.

ChristinedePizan · 23/08/2011 08:13

Oh no Mel - I just saw your DDs hair. I was also pretty shouty by the end of the weekend (although the Wild Rumpus Parade was a great way of getting that out) because I got fed up having to say everything three times.

mel2005 · 23/08/2011 09:14

i bought glo sticks in bulk from a shop on e-bay, they were great and the children loved them and gave some to others there.
i am going to buy a cobb bbq for next year. the storm kettle worked really well and i am so glad we had it, we also took the le creuset kettle and boiled it up on the bbq.
did they only have 6 showers on the whole site??
