first it's tent recommendations, then campsites... now i want an electric coolbox

but it has to be reasonably priced. or other solutions for keeping milk etc cold on a summer camping trip?

chipmonkey · 19/02/2011 21:06

Nonsense! Put your milk in a running stream! Sheeeesh!
Wink

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/02/2011 21:08

Have you got a Go Outdoors near to you?

This one looks pretty good, and very similar to the one that we've got that seems to work well.

thisisyesterday · 19/02/2011 21:14

hmmm running stream eh???

thisisyesterday · 19/02/2011 21:16

i don't think we have a go outdoors round here no, but could buy online

pfft

You don't want an electric coolbox, by that path the peril of the EHU lies.

You want on of THESE beauties. 10 day coolbox and look at the lovely colours.

MisSalLaneous · 19/02/2011 21:52

Slubber, what is a seat cushion? Do you, uhm, sit on it? Is it some fancy name for the seal? I'm confused. Happens easily though.

thisisyesterday · 19/02/2011 21:55

noooo i knew someone would link to those! saw them on a thread a little while ago

they really are lovely.

i was thinking with an electric one we could just have it plugged into the car in the day if we were driving around and then have it unplugged overnight???
is that a stupid idea?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 19/02/2011 21:58

looks like the cushion attaches to the lid and you can use it as a seat

sadly i think £85 is above our budget!

MisSalLaneous · 19/02/2011 22:01

No wait, I take that back - it's clearly not a seal, as sits on top. But if a padded seat intended for sitting, would a blanket not do the same job? Less stylish though, I guess. I now want this to be a "sitting aid" as it means good seals and I want gadgets. Love the box anyway though.

Oh, and sorry thisisyesterday, hope you don't mind me talking to myself here... :)

MisSalLaneous · 19/02/2011 22:02

Ah, thanks, yes, saw that after a while. I'm clearly a bit slow tonight! :)

SlubberdeVelcro · 19/02/2011 22:16

Hahah @ Sal talking to herself

It were me that linked to the icey teks a few weeks back. I think we will get one next month, but not the additional cushion.
. This month has been the new deuter sleeping bags.

thisisyesterday have you looked at the electric cool box threads on ukcs? I,m not sure of their thermal/insulatory [made up word] properties when they are not plugged in, so if we get a hot (ha ha bloody ha) summer from what I've read they don't have enough oomph to keep things cold.

SlubberdeVelcro · 19/02/2011 22:18

I'm getting a yellow one.

I will have the prettiest cool box in all of the campsite.

Young children will run up to look at it, open mouthed.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/02/2011 22:25

Yellow will attract flies - think again Slubber! Wink

SlubberdeVelcro · 19/02/2011 22:29

No! Surely not. Flies are colour blind aren't they, and attracted by foody smells, which my icey tek box will not have, what with being so cold and so securely sealed.

thisisyesterday · 19/02/2011 22:36

maybe i could take a small cow and just milk it each morning?

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/02/2011 22:42

The kids in yellow t-shirts at sports day are always more bothered by flies than those in red, blue or green (luckily my son's house is the bue one!), and my uber-posh (well she likes to think so!) friend bought a yellow parasol to contrast with her brown bugaboo and that was always swarming with bees and flies! I told her they thought it was a big flower she didn't think I was very funny! but ime yellow attracts flies.

Sorry!

melrose · 19/02/2011 22:47

We have a coleman extreme, far better than an electric, and igger, fill it with a couple of bags of ice every couple of days , cheaper than EHU and bigger!

chipmonkey · 20/02/2011 01:19

Slubber, flies are not colour-blind, they have better colour perception than humans AFAIK.

MisSalLaneous · 20/02/2011 09:57

You can always sit on the snazzy seat cushion and wave them away...

SlubberdeVelcro · 20/02/2011 10:00

Well I never! No idea why I thought they were colour blind, doesn't really make sense at all what with their big googly eyes.
Mn as ever has brainy folk who just know stuff.

this link here says they can't see red, maybe
I should get the red one...or the orange one?

Sorry for random fly-colour hijack thisisyesterday

MisSalLaneous · 20/02/2011 10:05

I like the red one best. Or you can go all utilitarian and go for the khaki? Something very proper about the latter.

SlubberdeVelcro · 20/02/2011 10:10

Gawd, maybe I am colour blind, I mistook khaki for black.

mmm
I like khaki, would colour ways blend with the tarp

But that is the way of the glamper to colour match!

No no a true utilitarian would choose the colour based purely on practical reasons alone and fly prevention is VERY practical.

So probably red then...or the orange.. The dds will be most upset, they chose yellow.

MisSalLaneous · 20/02/2011 10:43

Hahah, you can explain anything away, can't you?! Took me ages to see a picture of an orange one. They're niiiice. Jail-jumpsuity perhaps, and not shy. Def not glampy.

MisSalLaneous · 20/02/2011 10:45

Hmmm, your delta pegs are yellow, right? Are you a secret (or in denial - even worse) glamper trying to colour match your pegs and coolbox? Shock

poppyboo · 20/02/2011 13:35

Have you tried the cool bag from Lakeland? I got one last year and it kept the food so so cool, especially with a bottle of frozen water in it to use as a cooler. We even took yogurts with us and they were fine!
I bought it after reading the tip on here last year.

You could actually feel how cool it was when you put your hand in there to grab your food out LOL
