I’m starting to calorie count. Anyone want to join me?

Bookaholic73 · 02/04/2023 15:13

I’m going to be starting calorie counting from tomorrow, with the aim of losing around 2st (28lbs).

Would anyone else like to join me and hold each other accountable here on this thread?

I’ve tried so many ways of losing weight (Keto, Vegan, Low Carb etc) and none of it works long term.
So I’m quitting the fad diets and starting something that I can stick to.

I’m 5,5 and 12st. My aim is 10st, and I’ll be eating 1600 cals a day.

Evening all, feeling a bit better but Jesus I was wiped all day, seriously think I had a sugar hangover! I had a couple of little bites today while dishing out some to the kids (just get it out of the house now please!!) but overall ate quite well. DP cooked a lovely chicken gyros meal from the _aussiefitness insta page - he has loads of high protein low calorie 'fakeaway' type meals and some really delicious stuff. I'm not affiliated I swear but it's worth checking out!

Bookaholic73 · 10/04/2023 18:47

@bella1426 wow, his insta looks delicious! Thank you, I’ll definitely be looking for low calorie high protein recipes.

So my plans today went totally awry, ended up having cake, chocolate, and am about to have a glass of wine. But hey. I feel a lot more chilled about it today than I did yesterday and after today I’m back on it. Food all prepped for tomorrow and I’m about to do a shopping order for the week. I popped to Asda at closing time and got several gym kitchen high protein ready meals for not much money and they will go in the freezer for tricky meal times as well.

WeirdPookah · 10/04/2023 19:37

@Happymama24 I like breakfast burrito's, Wholemeal tortilla wrap (not the huge ones!), slice of cheese, black beans or similar, and I puree a jar of drained, roasted peppers with some jalapeno's and use a spoonful of that.
Sometimes I make a paste I saw on a Rick Stein program, with tomato, pumpkin seeds, chili and garlic, and use that under the beans instead of cheese and peppers.

Summerscomin · 10/04/2023 19:42

Eating my Easter egg and worrying a bit about how awful I'm going to feel tomorrow after reading your sugar hangover stories! I will say it doesn't seem to taste as amazing as I imagined in my head- I think the break has sent my taste buds weird.
Wasn't especially hungry today but had an m&s bang bang chicken & satay snack thing at lunch- tasty, filling and good protein for 180 cals.
Lamb roast dinner came in at 650.
Half Easter egg- 260
Couple of drinks, probably around 300.
Was aiming for 1500 today, so coming in satisfied & under. Back to normality tomorrow!

birdywillow · 10/04/2023 19:48

Hello, I hope everyone had a lovely Easter bank holiday. My calorie counting didn't go too well and the lindor in the cupboard never survived but nevermind.
I got back to it today and managed to stay under my calories
Breakfast - porridge with banana 359 calories
Lunch - protein bagel with 2 chicken slices, 2 slices of chorizo, lettuce and some lighter than light mayo with a bag of walkers French fries 420 calories
Tea - chicken and veg stir fry 550 calories
I also had a halo salted caramel ice cream for 80 calories which was much more delicious than I expected Grin

Hi everyone, I fell off the wagon last year and then had jaw surgery in January so I am just getting back to a routine. I don't need to lose much tbh. 2/3kgs as I'm pretty muscly on the bottom but have just started hrt patches at 37 and have the fear I'm about to pile on the beef! I have been with a PT the last 6 weeks which has helped so much mentally and physically. I have a mental job so I can go all day without eating or drinking. So I've bought flasks, a cold cup and re-useable tubs. I do my meal prep Sunday and Wednesday. One week is chicken or salmon and salad for lunch then next it's chicken or salmon with sweet potato, brocoli and an egg. I don't really eat much in the way of carbs. Yoghurt and fruit for breakfast. All new habits which have made it easier. I've guilt tripped myself in to an expensive gym as I feel like I sit at a desk and barely move my butt for 10 hours a day. Looking forward to everyone's success stories! I had my best leg press this week at 75kgs so that's been my highlight. I definitely need to reduce body fat that's lurking around my mid drift

bella1426 · 10/04/2023 19:59

Sounds like a lot of us fell into chocolate temptation today too! I find a lack of routine really throws me off diet plans! We still have a ton of Easter eggs left but gonna hide them away until next weekend for my and everyone else's sake, it's been a bit out of control this weekend! Looking foreword to a bit of routine tomorrow now

Summerscomin · 10/04/2023 20:08

I sort of planned to have my chocolate today but I'm a bit disappointed, it wasn't really worth the cals- writing this here to remind myself when I'm climbing the walls for it tomorrow!
Wow @katieg03 your meal planning is inspiring, I never know what I'll fancy until the day comes then get blinded by indecision..

Happymama24 · 10/04/2023 20:51

@WWeirdPookah that paste sounds lovely. Do you have the quantities for the ingredients? I would love to try it...I could definitely do with easing off the cheese...
I did ok with calories today. After dinner I had about 200kcal left over so I allowed myself a small treat.i got back to the gym today also which felt great

When you say you meal prep, do you prep all meals for the next 3 days? How do they last or do you cook as you go but prep the uncooked ingredients?

It sounds like such a good idea to plan ahead. I always plan my weeks food but I’ve never made multiple days worth of food in advance. Might give it a try.

ScandiNoirNuit · 11/04/2023 00:13

@redyellowpinkbluegreen thank you, that was exactly what I was looking for! Not sure which to go for, will have a play around.

Happymama24 · 11/04/2023 07:23

Just weighed myself and I have lost just over 2 lbs in 5 days. I'm very happy with that especially with Easter just passed!
I'm hoping that the weight loss will give me the kick I need to eat healthier when I'm away and not give in to mindless eating when the kids have some treats etc

Happymama24 · 11/04/2023 07:24

Does everyone generally weigh themselves once a week? What do you find best?
I'm really enjoying this thread, it's helping me stay on track.

Bookaholic73 · 11/04/2023 07:40

Good morning everyone, welcome back on the wagon for those of us who not only disembarked but set fire to the wagon.

Today for me is all about getting back to basics. More water, no sugar. I'm starting my sugar detox right now.

I'll be eating 3 lighter meals and no snacks today. I just feel overly full and stuffed and it's not a nice feeling! I'm thinking of noodle soup for lunch and an omelette for dinner.

@Happymama24 that is a great loss, well done! We have a Friday morning weigh-in if you want to join us then, or you can choose a day that suits you.

Looking forward to starting today. Going to be different changing my mindset from I can east as much pasta as I want to counting everything but I'm excited. My toddlers off for a sleepover so I'm blitzing the house, meal planning, exercising and food shopping today'

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2023 08:08

@Happymama24 I weigh on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Two weigh ins probably isn’t the most healthy but it stops me weighing daily and if I’m on track I’ll see a small loss, if I’m going wildly off the rails it helps me rein it in.

dd going back to uni today so I’ve made her a food parcel of all the cakes, chocolate and hot cross buns she can take back to halls for her flatmates.

sone photos from our family event yesterday have left me feeling generally quite horrible. It annoys me so much when people who don’t like being in photos snap indiscriminately and post lots of pictures without any kind of censorship. There’s one of me taken at a bad angle, next to my size 8 sil and I genuinely look like I’m twice her size, I look horrendous. It’s annoying, I don’t photograph well anyway but a nice photo at a nice angle when I’m not mid-conversation and squinting would have been better. And I feel like a grump saying I want them taken off the chat. Anyway, vent over.

have a great day everyone. Sun is shining here! ☀️

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2023 08:09

@Bookaholic73 and yes. Detox ON!

Shellwedance · 11/04/2023 08:57

I’m going to join if that’s OK. Am horrified at how my weight has crept up and I can’t seem to shift it! Nutracheck has suggested 1200 which seems v low but willing to try anything at this stage!

Do people find Nutracheck better than My Fitness Pal? Trying to decide whether it’s worth the subscription.

Bookaholic73 · 11/04/2023 09:14

@Shellwedance yes that really is very low! I’m losing at 1600 and am feeling heathy and full of energy. I wouldn’t go that low tbh.

Im using MFP to track and it’s fine for me.

@thenewaveragebear1983 i hate it when people take photos of me and post them without my consent. You have my sympathy.

@redyellowpinkbluegreen have a lovely child free day! What weight loss method have you been following that allows unlimited Pasta etc? Sounds a bit like SW or WW kind of stuff?

OP posts:
LancashireSquirrel · 11/04/2023 09:18

@Bookaholic73 what types of things are you eating to stay at 1600 and feel good? Looking for ideas! Smile

Bookaholic73 · 11/04/2023 09:31

@LancashireSquirrel honestly, a mix of things. An example would look like:

Breakfast- Tomato & egg on toast

Lunch- salmon or chicken poke bowl with lots of veggies and Asian style dressing.

Dinner- spaghetti bolognaise or risotto, with plenty of veg.

Then I’ll have snacks such as fruit or sometimes a protein bar, a protein pudding from Aldi etc.
