I’m starting to calorie count. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to be starting calorie counting from tomorrow, with the aim of losing around 2st (28lbs).

Would anyone else like to join me and hold each other accountable here on this thread?

I’ve tried so many ways of losing weight (Keto, Vegan, Low Carb etc) and none of it works long term.
So I’m quitting the fad diets and starting something that I can stick to.

I’m 5,5 and 12st. My aim is 10st, and I’ll be eating 1600 cals a day.

Wow, some fab losses, well done @Bookaholic73 @Summerscomin @bella1426 - sorry if I missed anyone. You are all inspiring me to keep going.
I got on the scales this morning for my initial weigh. Not good, not good at all.

I ended yesterday on 1149 calories. I was very tempted to fill the remaining ones with vodka but like @thenewaveragebear1983 I am trying to be more mindful. I hate feeling hungover and also as soon as I drink I get so hungry, it feels uncontrollable as I prowl the kitchen hoovering in whatever I can find.

I found some really tasty low cal sausages yesterday. They are heck ones that are 60% chicken and 40% veg. They had feta and pepper in them I think. They are only small but 2 are just 65 calories and they have a nice distinctive taste so I think would be good cut up in salad and such.

Anyone else dreading Easter? I know my mum has bought me an egg and I would normally have a good few drinks at the in-laws house on Sunday. Not sure how I will make it through on soft drinks. Also got no idea what food they are planning. It is never particularly diet friendly.

Bookaholic73 · 07/04/2023 12:01

Welcome @nowtherearethree great to have you here. Do you have much to lose?

@thenewaveragebear1983 you are spot on with the alcohol. I always wake up the next day wishing I hadn’t drank, as my motivation to do anything is at an all time low the morning after.

Bookaholic73 · 07/04/2023 12:04

@Hermoinestrousers i am not dreading the weekend so much, just planning to do my best. If I end up going over my calories I’ll just try to track what I can and be happy with that.
remember that one single day don’t won’t effect long term weight loss, it’s consistency over time that matters.

Fabulous loss @Bookaholic73. My weigh ins have been on a Saturday AM so I'll stick to that and report back tomorrow.

The talk about alcohol calories is interesting. I quit booze about seven years ago and replaced the calories with sugar 😂

Wishing you all a happy Easter weekend. I already have planned my chocolate calories for Sunday.

I've planned all next week's food too, directly into nutracheck. Editing it is enough effort to put me off going off track!

Hermoinestrousers · 07/04/2023 12:33

@Bookaholic73 very true, I guess I am just trying to get into the swing of it at the minute so I don't want to stumble when I am only a few days in.

@thelittlestbird I like the idea of putting stuff in ahead of time. I really need to up my organisation. Did the online shop yesterday to collect tomorrow and as usual I have completely forgotten to get me anything. I plan all the meals for my husband and kids and forget I exist too

nowtherearethree · 07/04/2023 12:33

@Bookaholic73 thank you for asking. I am 10 stone 3 lbs at the moment. In an an ideal world I would like to be
9 stone 10 lbs it doesn't sound a great deal more to loose but I was originally
11sone 5 lbs. I only have the occasional drink but I love food. I'm almost 60 and 5'3 inches

thelittlestbird · 07/04/2023 12:47

@Hermoinestrousers i empathise with that 'forgetting you exist' all too well. My DD is only 16 months so tends to have picky breakfasts and teas (with decent lunch at nursery) so it's not too bad but catering for non vegan DH does my nut in.

Happymama24 · 07/04/2023 13:28

bella1426 · 06/04/2023 09:25

Oh hey @Happymama24 I'm in Ireland too 👋🇮🇪

Hi @bellbella1426, that's great! It may come in handy when talking about which shops to get stuff in over here

Bookaholic73 · 07/04/2023 16:46

Haha, there was me saying I’m not too worried about this weekend. My DH has just walked through the door with pizza and wine.
So I’ll be having the evening ‘off’ and getting straight back on the wagon tomorrow.

@Bookaholic73 I had a moment earlier today too. Yesterday I was so good and then today the kids asked for pancakes and I just had some without thinking! I am going to make sure to have a light dinner and aim for a great day tomorrow

Happymama24 · 07/04/2023 17:20

@Bookaholic73 I was just catching up on the thread as I haven't checked in since yesterday well done on such great weight loss! Fab results

Summerscomin · 07/04/2023 17:27

@nowtherearethree it sounds like we have pretty similar goals, I'm 2 pounds heavier than you but aiming for about the same target.

It doesn't sound like a lot but that half stone makes such a difference to how I feel, if not how I look.

Enjoy your night off @Bookaholic73 I'm very much looking forward to mine tomorrow! Out for a meal and cocktails but will try not to push it too much.

Today is technically a 1300 day but if I have a few leftover I'm sure they'll be "spent" tomorrow..

Lunch was jacket potato, beans and salad in a cafe, had cals on the menu so I've gone with that and added a bit just in case- 450.
dinner is chicken baked in homemade BBQ sauce (165) and will add some cheese (135) and probably have it with chips (200) and vegetables (50) so around 550.

Weallgottachangesometime · 07/04/2023 17:34

Well done on all the hard work everyone!!!

I Just weighed. I’ve lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks. HOWEVER I am now off to a BBQ and then it’s Easter so….Im
not expecting this week to be too good.

I am aiming for around 9 1/2 stone but that feels miles away .

WeirdPookah · 07/04/2023 18:52

Not had a day I'm even going to track!

We went out early and had a breakfast picnic of egg and veggie sausage in rolls, then walked 6.5 miles! Sandwiches and I did leave the cake at picnic lunch, shop bought cake isn't worth it, but my smallest wanted the lemon cake to take with us. Dinner, well it is hot cross bun day, so we had that as a fun dinner for our children, but still hungry so had some halloumi with a herby, bean, noodle tin from Turkish supermarket.

6.5 miles has to count for something!

Will be tracking tomorrow, but going to in-laws Sunday, so shall see what happens.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2023 19:08

Today I’ve had:
66g of feta cheese, a 2egg omelette with 2 chipolatas, salad and 1tbsp light mayo
chicken tikka masala made with 150g raw chicken and I counted 1/3 of the sauce (but I didn’t actually eat 1/3, it was less), salad
130cal oppo ice cream stick (not had that yet)
an apple.
strawberries and 50g total 0% yog.
a small banana

ran 6.5km and been quite active all day in the garden.
total cals 1250, carbs 64g.

tomorrow I’m out for lunch, the pub does a ‘guilt free’ burger which is basically a burger, cheese, no bun, salad and relish, so I’m having that. I’ve priced it out using nutracheck and selected high values for all the different components as a guesstimate. we’re going for a walk as a family but it will be a slow amble With my parents and little neices and nephews but I’m going to do a home hiit workout on the morning.

AuntMarch · 08/04/2023 06:03

@WeirdPookah I bet your day wasn't as bad as you think!

I had 6 pints and a small Easter egg yesterday 😬and because of my step count "only" went 300 over... but I am still within calories for the week overall!
I don't intend to always eat back exercise calories but they are a good buffer to have on days like that.

I also had an egg and sausage pitta for breakfast and a big chicken salad for dinner. Not the healthiest by any means but not as bad as I thought it would be either.

thelittlestbird · 08/04/2023 06:38

2lbs off for me this week which I'm surprised by - a child with chickenpox and returning to work after sick leave has made for a testing few days! But I will take it and run.

Happy Saturday everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/04/2023 07:05

Another 1lb off for me on my Saturday weigh in. Very pleased with that! The next few days could be tricky but I need to remind myself that it’s not the one day that makes the difference, it’s not getting back on it afterwards that really does the damage. I should be able to stick to cals today and then tomorrow will be my day off. Monday - back on it!
I bought a lemon and mint drink to have on Monday at our family do- like a grown ups soft drink rather than a non alcoholic wine. Food on Monday should be ok, as long as I stick to what I know is good and not be tempted by the sweets.

have a great Easter Saturday!

Bookaholic73 · 08/04/2023 07:42

Amazing losses this week everyone, well done!

I’m getting straight back on the wagon today. We are going out for the day walking around a National trust property, so lots of exercise. I’m sure we will eat out, but it’ll probably be grabbing a meal deal from a supermarket on the way. That will make it easier to track!

I’ll bring water with me, so will make sure I drink plenty today.

birdywillow · 08/04/2023 07:47

Morning well done to everyone for their losses. I've managed to lose 2lbs this week which is a suprise to me as I know my calorie counting went a bit awry for a couple of days.
Aiming to drink plenty of water today and get out for a walk and avoid the box of lindor in the cupboard 😆

AuntMarch · 08/04/2023 08:16

@birdywillow I have some Lindor in the cupboard too, left from Mother's day. I haven't even looked at it this week since I started tracking because I am sure the NVs on the box will make me too sad!

I am not officially weighing until Monday but a sneaky peak this morning shows me staying the same, which I think is a great result after the boozy day yesterday and hopefully will lead to a loss Monday morning once I am rehydrated 😃

WeirdPookah · 08/04/2023 12:53

@AuntMarch I actually tracked it as best I could, and with the walking I did, despite eating so much, it calculated I was actually at a deficit of about 140 calories. Not much, but it did make me feel better, and I did enjoy our day out.

ilovemydog123 · 08/04/2023 12:56

Yea please me too would love to have some encouragement and share our daily intake along the way

AuntMarch · 08/04/2023 13:23

@WeirdPookah Even the smallest deficit (or even just not being over by too much) at least reassures that the week hasn't been blown by it doesn't it!

Hermoinestrousers · 08/04/2023 14:33

The vodka got me last night. I saw watermelon fanta in Tesco and thought 'oh that will be nice with vodka' and before I knew it I was 4 vodkas in. Watermelon fanta is trash by the way, I was so disappointed as I love the flavour of watermelon sweets.
As predicted, I ended up eating a sausage roll. What an idiot. Was pretty much on my calories still but was hoping to have banked some.

It is takeaway night tonight.....well, it is I refuse to cook night and as my husband will not cook at all, we always end up with a take away. Anyone got any ideas for something not too horrendous? I might go get one of those lowish calorie pizzas from M&S as at least that isn't too much cooking. Used to like their ready meal Chinese for 1 but I think they changed the recipe as it is a lot higher in cals than it was
