I’m starting to calorie count. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to be starting calorie counting from tomorrow, with the aim of losing around 2st (28lbs).

Would anyone else like to join me and hold each other accountable here on this thread?

I’ve tried so many ways of losing weight (Keto, Vegan, Low Carb etc) and none of it works long term.
So I’m quitting the fad diets and starting something that I can stick to.

I’m 5,5 and 12st. My aim is 10st, and I’ll be eating 1600 cals a day.

Hey everyone.

I have counted every single calorie today. Ending the day on 1359.
That’s pretty low for me, but I’m really full to be honest.

I have been to the gym today and had a good workout.
Feeing pretty good today.

I needed to go to the next town and do some shopping today, so only had a short extra walk at school pick up time.

Done fine with food today:
B: Black bean burrito
L: Minestrone, with some little samosa filled pastry things from asda
D: Lemon lentils, vegetarian sausage, cabbage
protein coffee

Have time for a longer walk tomorrow.

MovingandStressed · 17/05/2023 03:53

Hi everyone! May I please join you? I’m needing some motivation and accountability! I was doing really well yesterday but then I had a slice of cake… getting it out of the house today to get rid of temptation…I’m 5’5 and 16st after kids. Heaviest I’ve ever been and want to lose around 4st

Summerscomin · 17/05/2023 09:32

Morning all, yesterday sounded positive! I was okay too- sandwich for lunch and a Malaysian peanut satay with rice for dinner. I'll probably add some broccoli to the leftovers and have it for lunch/dinner today.

I'm sticking with Friday weigh-in and will be interested to see if I'm maintaining despite not tracking too closely. I feel okay in myself I think- it's pretty sad that I've noticed the number on the scales can dictate my mood for the rest of the day though.

Welcome @MovingandStressed how's it going? Have you got a "plan"?

MovingandStressed · 17/05/2023 10:21

@Summerscomin thank you! I started doing a Clean 9 but had to go away for a weekend in the middle so now I’m just calorie counting. I’ve lost 5lb in 10 days and weighed this morning and am 16st but that’s probably mostly water retention etc. now is the point where I usually give up - but I’ve got to keep going. I’m having quite a large brekkie, granola yoghurt and fruit, then a diet shake for lunch and a low calorie homemade salad for dinner this week.

MovingandStressed · 17/05/2023 10:24

Really quite horrified at how much weight has crept on since having my kids - at my lightest ever I was just under 11st (I’ve never been super skinny) but I looked a really nice weight. Over the years 5+ stone has crept on!!! Definitely want to lose 4 from my start weight if possible, but will settle for a first goal of losing just 1st and then take it from there!

WeirdPookah · 17/05/2023 11:15

Well, I did TRY and go for a longer walk, went to long way round to collect my package from Sainsbury, but as I was leaving, our neighbour, literally the guy over the road, asked if I had my car and offered me a lift home when I said I didn't. Would have been weird to have refused a lift! Still got a decent walk in.

Todays plan:
B: Kidney bean burrito
L: Ful medammes, salad, preserved lemon paste stuff
D: Chickpea mango almond korma, cucumber, half naan
protein coffee

My husband has to go into his work tomorrow for a launch of something he's been working on, makes for a bit of a stressful day for me, so planning on a walk to use up some time. As I still struggle with some strange mindset that makes me overeat when nobody can see me.

Bookaholic73 · 17/05/2023 13:36

Hi @MovingandStressed the weight seems to creep on so easily doesn't it, and quickly! If only we could lose it as fast!

@Summerscomin I totally know what you mean in regards to your mood being dictated by the number on the scale. I am the same. But if it's a good result I feel like I can treat myself, and if the number is bad I want to eat my feelings. So either way it affects me!

I've been to the gym today and will actually be going back again later. I have never been twice in 1 day before, but I got chatting with an older lady who has lost 3st in the past year and she invited me to work out with her this evening. I couldn't pass that opportunity up, so I'll be going back to the gym later.

The food has been great today, although I am CRAVING some chocolate really badly! I'm just going to have to be super careful not to cave in.

🤦‍♀️ really really really crap day today. Just right from the get-go, I felt tired, I felt hormonal, I was craving carbs…. All my food choices were questionable. And then I made 80 cupcakes for school and ate rather a lot of cake mix with ds. Feel rather sick now to be honest.

so ….. I firstly made myself write it all in my tracker, even so far as calculating the cake batter and what I think I ate. I had a bath and listened to my hypno and drank loads of water. I feel better actually for acknowledging it and not hiding from it, and I reckon my total cals today was around 2400 which although isn’t going to lose me any weight, it also isn’t going to be too catastrophic- if, and only IF, I stop being a dick to myself and get my shit back together.

tomorrow I want to run in the morning, then I think I need to work outside of the kitchen for a change as sitting in the kitchen every day isn’t helping me at all. I will go back to basics of fast til lunch time, protein packed lunch, and dinner will be chicken breasts stuffed with feta and sundried toms and basil, served with salad. I’ll try and listen to my hypnosis again, it really does help and I always forget until it’s too late. I’ve actually put a reminder into my calendar for 3 weeks from now (next time I’m due on) to remind me to listen during this hormonal week to try to curb my sugar cravings.

WeirdPookah · 18/05/2023 07:58

@thenewaveragebear1983 sorry you had a tough day, it is so very annoying when our hormones play games with us and sabotage what we planned in our minds.
Treat yourself to something fresh and good today, British strawberries sat on a windowsill to warm a little in the sun.

I weighed in today and lost nearly 3.5lbs this week.

Next week is going to be rough though , as we are going on holiday the week after, so need to just use up stuff that needs eating, which will make it hard to plan and I know that will de-rail me.

Annoyingly, if I could still lose 2 lbs next week, I would be at the 50 lost I had hoped to lose before the family wedding we are going to on holiday.

Today:
B: Kidney bean burrito
L: homemade fishermans pie
D: chicken korma, pilau rice and broccoli

My husband is away in work today so I have to be super mindful to do the right thing. Just because nobody can see me doesn't mean the calories don't exist!

Summerscomin · 18/05/2023 21:10

Wow @WeirdPookah that's an excellent loss! Well done, even if you don't hit the 2lb next week what a fantastic achievement in time for the wedding!
Hope today was better @thenewaveragebear1983 my cycle is all over the place just now but I'm going to have to settle in for monthly periods for the foreseeable, which I'm really not used to after being on contraception that pretty much stopped them for such a long time Putting a reminder on your phone is a great tactic.
I'm planning to weigh in the morning and hoping I'm within range. Today has been ok- I've avoided chocolate and had plenty of veg & protein, though my water intake has lacked.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/05/2023 21:42

I didn’t go quite as cake crazy today, which considering I made over 2 kg of buttercream and iced 108 cupcakes in the end, wasn’t too bad. I did sample some, but only for essential quality control. And I ate one finished cake. I’ve counted/ guesstimated it in my tracker, and I pretty much ate nothing else all day until dinner. And I ran 5 miles this morning.

I can get properly on it tomorrow, annoyingly it’s the weekend which probably means lots of temptation and wine, but I’m really going to try and intend to have a good 7 day stretch before we go away. It’s my optimal week for weight loss In my cycle so I don’t want to waste it.

tomorrow, I have salad and a stuffed chicken breast for lunch, then dinner will be duck breast and broccoli, so every chance of having a really successful day as long as I can keep to plan. Running a quick 5kms with my friend in the morning.

Summerscomin · 19/05/2023 06:24

Impressive @thenewaveragebear1983 both the quantity of baking and the amount you limited to! Keep the willpower this weekend 💪
I've maintained this week, which I'm actually thrilled with. The challenge for me has always been maintenance, my goal is to stay at this weight, +/- 2lbs or so, for at least the summer. How hard can it be?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/05/2023 07:59

I weighed in this morning and the week has cost me 1.5lbs, so currently 157lbs. To be honest, I’ll take that little gain after my week and I still believe if I really focus I could get under 11st/154lbs before I go on holiday.

i’m really tempted to do a strict round of whole30 after whitsun, it really does give me a boost. It’s all about mindset so I need to make sure the time is right but I haven’t done a strict one for about a year so I know I could feel the benefits.

LeefPeeper · 19/05/2023 09:34

Hi, I’d love to join you if I can? I am calorie counting with nutracheck, I have 3 or 4 low carb days a week where I am for 800-1000 calories, and then the rest of the week I calorie count up to about 1500. Kind of like 5:2 I guess. I have 1st 8 to lose get to where I was when I felt really good in myself.

I used to run quite a bit, but hurt my back so that’s off the table for now. when I hurt my back and stopped running I put 2.5st on, as I comfort ate a lot and also couldn’t exercise.

I do Pilates to try and strengthen everything up, but it looks like it’s going to take longer than expected to sort it out. When ever I do too much I start getting twinges and then I know I have to stop doing anything for a few days, or I will go in to spasm, and also get nerve pain. My husband is a super fit and seems obsessed with going for walks, which I don’t mind, but the issue is he wants to go for miles which I just can’t do at the moment. I’ve started sending him out on his own for the time being 😂

That turned in to a longer essay that I thought, anyway I weighed this morning and have lost 2.75lbs

WeirdPookah · 19/05/2023 10:29

@Summerscomin thank you! And well done on the maintaining, that can be just as much a challenge, especially with the hormones flying about! I really wish I could just inform my body that, hey, we have two small children, we are done here, lets stop this nonsense!

@thenewaveragebear1983 that really is an impressive amount of cake!! Cake batter is disturbingly tempting.

Doing ok today so far, done some cleaning and will get a short walk before school pick up

B: soy yogurt and pineapple
L: asian flavour inspired slaw with new Aldi Chinese not-chicken strips
D: Broccoli, vegetable sauce, cheese (family has pasta)

Summerscomin · 19/05/2023 12:53

That's not too bad at all @thenewaveragebear1983 and I'm not sure about you but I retain water badly after a sugar feast. Is whole30 like a really clean eating program?
Welcome @LeefPeeper I sympathise with your difficulty exercising, my back and neck are really dodgy after childbirth/a car accident and just general living can cause me grief so although I try to keep relatively active, I don't do any formal "exercise". Great start with the loss too!
@WeirdPookah it was only a few weeks ago you were getting frustrated with small losses, I think? But that's a couple of good chunks now! Ha yes I'm done with the child-growing too but have another 20 years of period hell ahead I reckon.
I haven't eaten yet today and probably won't bother with much, if anything, til dinner. I've got a stir fry kit and some leftover roast chicken- just have to convince myself to have that and NOT a Chinese takeaway. It's so easy to order in, especially as it's pay day and been such a long week. We'll see!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/05/2023 21:05

@Summerscomin yes it’s a whole foods for 30 days thing. It’s quite tough because you have to cut a lot out, but on the flip side it’s not calorie restriction and there is a lot of things you can eat, but it’s basically meat, fish, veg, nuts, eggs, fruit, and potatoes for 30 days. I’ve done multiple rounds previously and after the first week of detoxing I just feel amazing on it. It really helps me get out of the horrible cycle I’m in right now of feeling exhausted/ eating crap/feeling exhausted/ drinking wine/ eating more crap….. so potentially gearing myself up for another round.

LeefPeeper · 21/05/2023 21:58

Checking in for the first time.

today was most definitely off plan, but I knew it would be, but it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

have done my packed lunch for work tomorrow and planned in dinner, am having up to 1500 calories tomorrow, and then 3 days low carb between 800-1000. Big shop day tomorrow to get my supplies in for the week. Hoping for a good one 😀

Summerscomin · 22/05/2023 06:56

Morning all, happy Monday!
@thenewaveragebear1983 I can see how it'd make you feel fantastic, and not restricting calories is always a bonus, though I imagine the level of organisation and willpower to not touch the processed stuff is hard! 30 days sounds relatively doable though?
Sounding ready for action @LeefPeeper best of luck! I love/hate big shop day. I love feeling prepared and with lots of options, but I'm terribly indecisive and forget what I meant to cook, and trying to cram it all in the fridge drives me barmy.

Good news- I didn't order Chinese on Friday. Bad news- we had Indian instead 🙈
Saturday/Sunday was all fresh, nutritious and home cooked. I made a beef stroganoff from a suggestion on the other thread that was absolutely delicious, and also had a go at chicken shawarma- fantastic and really easy but I was a tad heavy with the chilli!

Today I'll probably have:
L: leftover shawarma with lots of salad
D: slow cooked beef and mushrooms with broccoli/cauliflower. Maybe a bit of mash if I'm hungry.
Still trying to focus on protein & iron!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/05/2023 07:57

@Summerscomin in many ways it makes it easier because there just isn’t anything to have, except proper food. It’s just getting into that mindset I guess. I have done a few rounds of whole 30 and every time is different. I must admit the hardest thing I think this time will be not drinking for 30 days but then I guess that’s a very very good reason to not drink for 30 days!

WeirdPookah · 22/05/2023 10:38

@LeefPeeper sounds like a great start to things!

My weekend was pretty good food and exercise wise, did have crisps Saturday night. We for a walk Saturday morning and we did have lollies in the park, Rowntree's Fruit Stacks, only 55 calories each!!

Sat
B: eggs, miso mushrooms
L: fava bean spread, half a roll, salad
D: Arepa's, Aldi's new BBQ no-pork chunks (surprisingly spicy), peppers/toms
Snack was massive bowl of oregano crisps from lidl's greek week!
Sun:
B: Banana waffles, cinnamon cooked apple with raisins, yogurt
L: No rice poke bowl
D: cauliflower, pumpkin/nutritional yeast sauce (was amazing tasted like cheese and onion crisp seasoning!)
Watermelon for snack

Today I have already been out for a walk, but we are going on holiday next week, so this week requires eating "things that need eating" all week, roughed out a plan to use things up and try and keep on eating the right number of calories.

B: Black bean burrito with seed/tomato sauce
L: Satay tofu with cabbage
D: Breakfast! eggs, hashbrowns, beans
Plus a protein shake coffee.

LeefPeeper · 23/05/2023 21:14

Perfect low carb day for me today, ending up on 950 cals, I aim for 800-1000 when I am doing lower carbs.

went for a walk up a steep hill, and then did 20 mins of Pilates when I got back.

hope everyone else had a good Tuesday 😀

CrispyTofu · 24/05/2023 11:45

Can I join? I've calorie counted before with good success. I have 4kg to lose.

WeirdPookah · 24/05/2023 12:25

Been doing ok, despite the needing to use things up and do the best of that.

Had a couple of good walks Monday and Tuesday, not done anything today as was organising some things needing done, but will get a short walk at school pick up time.

Super stressed as I sent a stupid message to school complaining about something my child had apparently only given me half the story of, making me look a rude idiot.

Made a Thai green curry for tonight using up all bits of veg left over, but I think its too hot so have to do something else for the children ARGH do not need my brain frazzled any more than it is.

Weigh in tomorrow.
