I’m starting to calorie count. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to be starting calorie counting from tomorrow, with the aim of losing around 2st (28lbs).

Would anyone else like to join me and hold each other accountable here on this thread?

I’ve tried so many ways of losing weight (Keto, Vegan, Low Carb etc) and none of it works long term.
So I’m quitting the fad diets and starting something that I can stick to.

I’m 5,5 and 12st. My aim is 10st, and I’ll be eating 1600 cals a day.

Good evening.

Its been a good day food wise today, but I’m so hungry!
I think my body is just used to eating junk food now and is craving it.
It’s not an actual physical hunger, which is how I know it’s just cravings.

Cravings are the worst!!
I have given in to a small slice of Brie this evening!

I seem incapable of sticking under my calories. If I come in under I always have a last minute snack to make it up!!

Weallgottachangesometime · 12/04/2023 21:07

Wow @thenewaveragebear1983 you’re fitting in so much exercise. Good on you!!

I’m managing ok with diet but I do need to up my exercise a wee bit. Not for weight loss specifically just for general health.

My day has been good. So much easier when I am at work, as I can only eat what I have prepared as no shops are nearby. I often don’t each mind either at work. It’s days off that are the hardest!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/04/2023 06:41

@Weallgottachangesometime i’m the same, no matter what my number is, I always seem to go over. That’s why I aim very low now. I’ve set my nutracheck to 1300, and if I exercise I sometimes will have up to about 1600, but I always try to keep the total in deficit. My actual daily calorie burn according to Garmin is around 2200 daily average for the last year, so you’d think it would be dropping off me but… well, it isn’t 😂

I’m a bit annoyed that my one guilt free day turned into about 5 days of struggling to get back on plan, and I’m determined to make a concerted effort to get my head back into the game. I did step on the scales this morning and I’m back up to 157.8lbs, so that’s about 3lbs on, and while I did eat a bit extra this week, I certainly didn’t eat over 10,000 calories extra so it must be water retention and general “bodies are weird” things going on. And even though I know this, I get annoyed with myself for putting it on, but also for weighing myself.

so it’s back to what I know best and what works:
water- 3l at least
high protein and Low carb meals- today I’m having Greek yog and berries, salmon and salad, and chicken wrapped in Parma ham with asparagus.
exercise: run this morning once I have finished my coffee,
scales- my next weigh in is Saturday but I am out tomorrow night and staying over so I may not weigh until weds.

my plan tomorrow is to eat before I go, and then have just a couple of glasses of wine, partly to save money as well as calories!

WeirdPookah · 13/04/2023 06:49

@Lalanbaba I used to used MyProtein unflavoured, and just bought some this weekend again. You can then use anything to flavour it, coffee, cocoa, I used sugar free milkshake syrup etc.

bella1426 · 13/04/2023 09:06

Morning everyone, I also agree with the my protein unflavoured powder, full fat Greek yogurt with a scoop of unflavoured, a ton of mixed berries, a few chopped walnuts and a small drizzle of honey is one of my favourite breakfasts. Some of the flavoured ones are ok - the chocolate for example is nice in a smoothie with almond milk and frozen berries. I feel like the flavoured ones need some other flavour (like berries) to cut through that artificial sweetener taste but can't really go wrong with unflavoured

Off to the gym this morning for cardio and weights so going to have a small banana pre training followed by an Omlette when I return

Lunch is smoked salmon, rocket, capers and cream cheese bagel thin with small bowl of soup

Dinner is chicken Kiev with some strong roots sweet potato cubes, Brocolli and green beans

Snacks - protein bar, protein yogurt and berries

1504 cals, 99g protein, bit higher today as having very active day, yesterday wasn't great for water to aiming to get a load of that into me

Bookaholic73 · 13/04/2023 09:26

Morning all.

just back from the gym and having breakfast. Egg & tomato on toast with a coffee.
DH is already on about having wine tonight, so I must resist!

Morning! Yesterday was an 1100 day, I had:
Cappuccino (60)
Schar crispbreads, thick sliced ham, cottage cheese (200)
Lamb curry, rice, gf pitta & 2 poppadoms- I expected these to be higher cal!- with a good splodge of greek yoghurt and some mango chutney (800).
I need to do a top up food shop but today is a 900 day so I might have to leave it til tomorrow, food shopping when hungry is never a good idea and would feel a bit torturous.
I'm planning some soup for lunch, then I've got some chicken for dinner- will have a look on that Aussie fitness insta page for some inspiration I think..

WeirdPookah · 13/04/2023 19:36

Today I am so hungry, PMT is making me so crabby and it makes me feel hungry too. End of the easter holidays and my children are irritating each other, the house is a mess as I was ill before the holidays and didn't clean, now there is STUFF everywhere!

That said, I am sitting here hungry but determined to go to bed like that later.
B: Kidneybean burrito
L: Lettuce wraps with hummus, carrots and new potatoes
D: Roasted pumpkin, peppers and tomatoes, with some chicken.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/04/2023 19:42

I’m really struggling today with my overwhelming urge to binge on rubbish. I know I don’t want it, ( I really don’t want it or the way I’ll feel tomorrow), but I’m exhausted and frazzled and I’m really craving the relief/release rather than the actual food. Is that weird? I’ve had this ongoing battle in my head since about 3.00pm and it’s exhausting. I feel like I might just give in because constantly resisting is really overwhelmingly tiring.

I’ve just about scraped through on calories today, I ran 10km this morning and that’s helped with my deficit. But I have already snacked and nibbled my way though around 500 calories of ‘bits’ which is probably contributing to how I feel now. And because I am out tomorrow I’m already feeling like I might as well say ‘f it til Saturday’ and just eat!

I hate feeling like this. Sorry for my moan!!

Summerscomin · 13/04/2023 20:20

I feel similarly with cravings, the Easter chocolate is shouting from the treat box, but I'm very conscious that it's weigh day tomorrow - are you both weighing in tomorrow @WeirdPookah and @thenewaveragebear1983 ?
I'll be so disappointed if I don't get a decent loss this week as I've really tried, even tracking "off" meals, and this feels like dangerous territory. I really don't want so say "screw it" if it's not a good result.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/04/2023 20:57

@Summerscomin no my weigh in is Saturday and Wednesday. I’m out tomorrow night and staying over so I won’t weigh Saturday morning either. I might weigh tomorrow actually, to draw a line under it and then I can try my hardest to get my head back in the game.

I’m really pissed off with myself tbh. I just cracked and ate loads of the kids Easter choc and now I feel sick and really annoyed that I cracked even though it was inevitable. I did so well last week and felt amazing, I think I’ll have put all that back on now. It does make me really sad though that I clearly can’t have any ‘off days’ because I cannot rein myself back in. I had one day off that’s turned into a whole week off.

AuntMarch · 13/04/2023 21:04

I've had two pub meals (one was twice the calories of the other though!) and a McDonald's since I was last here 🙈
I am in deficit for the week as it stands but definitely not fuelling my body well all the same. I need to go back to work!

Summerscomin · 13/04/2023 21:04

Don't beat yourself up about it @thenewaveragebear1983 it isn't easy! It takes such a lot of discipline and willpower and we all stumble along the way. Draw your line and beat the sugar monster back, that seems to be what's started it?

Lalanbaba · 13/04/2023 21:57

Evening everyone,
Thanks for the protein powder recs, I will order some unflavoured one as it looks like I can mix it with most things.
Feeling crap today, kiddo has pass me her cold.
B. 2 pieces of toast and tea.
S. Banana
L. Instant noodles topped with egg, spinach, mushrooms, carrots and one teaspoon of ssamjang.
D. Gammon, peas and few chips.
1477 cal.
Not too bad, but all I can think is food. Being poorly does not help.

Weallgottachangesometime · 14/04/2023 07:56

My Friday weigh-in. I’m 10s6lb down from 10s13lb on March 26th.

I have kids having a sleep over tonight and have promised them McDonalds. Anyone know any lower calorie options….or is that asking to much !

The grilled garlic chicken wrap is 345kcal and is quite nice. My lot wanted McDonald's Tuesday. You can get a side salad which is lettuce tomato cucumber and onion with it instead of chips. If you look on their app, they have a section for meals under 400kcal or under 600kcal.

Bookaholic73 · 14/04/2023 08:39

Morning everyone.

@thenewaveragebear1983 dont be so hard on yourself. If you are having binges I would look at whether your daily calories enough to sustain you.
mo’s the hunger physical hunger, or is it just sugar cravings. I find a good way of working this out is asking myself if I would eat some beans on toast.
If I answer no, I’m clearly not hungry, I just want sugar and other crap food.

Weigh in day today, and I’m stayed the same. Not too bad considering I came on my period this morning. So I always gain normally.

I’m going out to lunch at a cafe today, with a dear friend of mine. But she is not a heathy eater and I want to stick to something healthy that isn’t salad!

@Weallgottachangesometime well done on that loss!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/04/2023 08:42

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake i saw a grilled chicken salad in there that was about 250 calories I think? I’ve never had it, but I was surprised that there were low cal options like that. I usually just have a diet sprite!

thanks @Summerscomin and my apologies for my woe is me grumps yesterday. I feel a lot better today. I did weigh myself, and I’m now 158.8 so nearly 3lbs on from this time last week. But- no moping about. That’s not going to help is it?

menu planned for today and I have allowed for a few glasses of wine and can still meet my calorie allowance. I might not have that much, if I meet dd and we go to a bar before the gig and get one drink afterwards, that might be enough. The £8 for a pint of gassy watery cider at the gig might put me off!

I have planned my low carb menu for next week as well and will click and collect on Sunday so all ready for the week.

WeirdPookah · 14/04/2023 09:56

@Summerscomin I weigh in on Thursday now, works easier for me. I lost 1lb last week. Which is better than nothing considering the amount I ate Friday and Sunday, and various bits of chocolate. But it isn't good enough with how much I have to lose, a pound is nothing, and not enough with the long term view either.

I just had a couple Lindor mini eggs after going for a (FAR less windy) walk on the prom. I don't know why. I don't think I even enjoyed them much.

Happymama24 · 14/04/2023 09:56

@WeirdPookah thank you for the recipe. I have taken a screenshot.

Summerscomin · 14/04/2023 10:21

I weighed in this morning and am down 2.5lbs. I was quite relieved after worrying last night that I hadn't lost anything! It's a good boost to motivation.
The slow cooker is bubbling away with BBQ pulled chicken for dinner this evening, I think I fancy it with nachos and mozzarella so I'll be sensible for lunch.
Busy last weekend before back to school on Monday. I'm looking forward to getting a routine back!

Oh grilled chicken wrap sounds nice, thanks for the suggestion. I might try to skip and eat at home, but we are going straight from cinema so I might be too hungry to wait by then!

Weallgottachangesometime · 14/04/2023 12:36

@thenewaveragebear1983 i think dealing with little set backs is the hardest part of dieting. You’re doing good to get back to it instead of giving up. I think everyone dieting has set backs and really I think a little up and down is normal. It’s nice to have a day without thinking about everything you’re eating every now and then.

@Summerscomin That meals sounds delicious. Nachos are my Achilles heel. No joke I used to have half a bag covered in cheese every night.

Summerscomin · 14/04/2023 14:41

They're really moreish aren't they @Weallgottachangesometime I'm hoping to have a decent portion but I'm sure it'll be eye-opening when I weigh it out. Should have about 700cals to play with and I'll add some veggies or salad to help!

bella1426 · 14/04/2023 15:53

@thenewaveragebear1983 it's not often I do a 10k run but on the very rare occasion I make it that far I'm always RAVENOUS all day so definitely need a lot of extra calories, when I don't eat enough that's when the sugar binge monster creeps in.
2.2 lb off today. Exactly the same pattern as last Monday to Friday - this weekend just gotta work on keeping it off!! No booze and a pretty wholesome weekend of ferrying kids around, dog walking and will get to the gym on Sunday too. I've started on the James Smith Academy app, it's not cheap but it's excellent, there is a challenge running from next Monday till the 9th July which is my holiday date so going to really throw myself into this one!
