Low cal breakfast no eggs, milk or yoghurt

I need to lose weight but struggling to think what to have for breakfast as I don’t like eggs, milk (any sort) or yoghurt. I usually have toast or tea cake with butter but not great options for losing weight!

Fruit? A banana mashed on an oatcake maybe?
I found that some carrot sticks and a couple of slices of ham worked for me.
Certain foods are seen as breakfast foods, but you can eat whatever you like, once you adopt that mindset it's easier to think of low calorie things you like.

Oats soaked overnight in apple juice, with fruit

WatchMyChops · 28/08/2021 16:30

I know you said that you don’t like milk, but have tried other substitutes like almond milk etc?

Do you not like things even with milk in it? For example oats? I am not a fan of the smell of milk but can handle other substitutes or if it’s incorporated with something else.

What is it about eggs that you don’t like? Is it the texture? Can you not have it when it’s mixed in something else liked a baked omelette for example?

figgyroo · 28/08/2021 16:34

Yes I’ve tried nut milks etc and just don’t like the creamy taste. Don’t like porridge etc because of that. I like egg yolks but hate the taste of egg white so don’t like omelette etc. I sound really fussy but it’s only really breakfast type foods I have a problem with.

You can make porridge with water, may be worth trying that if you don't like milk?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/08/2021 17:06

Bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes, can be even more low cal if you flash fry wafer thin ham instead of bacon, but bacon is actually not that high for a couple of rashers.

Continental with ham deli meat and melba toast

Fruit salad, focus on berries rather than carbs fruits like banana

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/08/2021 17:10

Melon and Parma ham

Really you can eat whatever you want it doesn't have to be a breakfast food. One of my favourites is boiled egg with asparagus spears for dipping, or a kind of breakfast hash where I chop up loads of mushrooms, some green veg and onion, fry it up with no oil and then stir an egg through it, like you do when making egg fried rice but with veg instead of rice.

Bacon, sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes, perhaps join a low carb or Keto group on Facebook for some more ideas

grey12 · 28/08/2021 17:32

Just to leave an idea:

I'm a snacker and I actually lost weight when I started having a bigger breakfast! Shock big breakfast = no snacking until lunch = huge difference!! I was shocked! I used to barely have breakfast and be very stuck on my weight and then I miraculously lost 2kg without doing anything else!

MumofSpud · 28/08/2021 17:33

I would start thinking about food you do like - yes, they might not be traditional breakfast foods but so what!!
Example: meat / rice / veg

ZZGirl · 28/08/2021 17:35

What about a breakfast bake? You kind of bake all the elements of a cooked brekkie together.
And I know you said you don't like porridge but what about baked oats?

AdaColeman · 28/08/2021 17:36

Bowl of homemade thick vegetable soup, quick and easy and warming for a winter breakfast.

Bowl of mixed fruit compote, apples, pears, plums, blackberries etc. Cook a batch large enough for two or three days at a time.

Sardines on toast, avocado on toast etc etc.

imstilljenny2 · 28/08/2021 17:42

I'm going to be radical here and say don't have a breakfast. I do intermittent fasting and now don't eat until 11.30/12 most days. I just have lunch and dinner. It was tough in the first few weeks but I've been doing it for years now and I would feel sick if I had a breakfast now. I don't feel hungry. We don't really need three meals a day. I think I read somewhere that the research that proved breakfast was the most important meal of the day was funded by Kellogg's (but this could be rubbish so don't quote me!)

helentomelon · 28/08/2021 17:52

I like some Parma ham with avo.
Tinned tomatoes on rye bread also a fav

helentomelon · 28/08/2021 17:53

@Whinginadeville

Marmite roast potatoes on a bed of spinach 😋
Tell me more about marmite potatoes please!!
Coffeeanddarkchoc · 28/08/2021 17:53

I'm having a slim bagel, with a low fat cheese triangle and a slice of ham - around 170 calories and delicious.

AdaColeman · 28/08/2021 19:16

Some more ideas…
Make a large pan of ratatouille, ( though I’d keep it slightly less liquid than for serving with pasta, so include fewer tomatoes ) serve bowls hot or cold with a slice or two of lean ham or chicken, or a little tuna, or just on its own.

Slice of lean ham with fresh figs or sliced peaches, very seasonal!

Home made mixed bean salad/casserole. Use fresh herbs, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar for a dressing if you want to cut down on your olive oil consumption.qqa

Screwyoularry · 28/08/2021 19:21

Diced sweet potato & cherry tomatoes & beetroot roasted with some cumin. Served with some wilted spinach. I have it a couple time a week. Quick cheap & easy (even better with a fried egg for me)

PottersParties · 28/08/2021 19:41

I like savoury breakfasts so some ideas from me:

Pytt i panna- topped with mushrooms or egg yolk- you can buy it frozen in Ikea or make this fancy Jamie Oliver one www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/beef-recipes/pytt-y-panna-little-pieces-in-a-pan/

Miso soup with rice/seaweed wraps. With a green tea!
