Your boobs after breast-feeding - honestly...

What are they like?

I EBF for 8 months before (reluctantly) giving up, and am just drying up now. Used to be a 36C pre-pregnancy, going up to a 38DD while bf. Now my left boob is tiny and flat. My right has more size/shape but still deflated. None of my old bras fit properly (and there I was looking forward to getting back into the pretty ones)

Do they ever get back to 'normal' or no?

This is purely a vanity question, I know

Um.

Er.

Look, there's a badger over there. Look. There, a badger.

sunshiney · 27/05/2010 10:12

after about 3 months of bf i noticed my breasts seemed to have less fullness, sort of like slightly deflated balloons instead of pillows

i went on to feed until my dd was 2, and unfortunately yes they are not in fantastic shape. they are about the same size but they are droopy.

although i have to say i don't think the bra's i chose the first time round offered as much support as the ones i've found since.

but to be honest, i truly don't care. with a good bra they look fine. also, they weren't anything to brag about pre children anyway.

Bubbles1066 · 27/05/2010 10:20

Mine weren't that great to start with.... but as the other OP said a good bra does wonders!

jellybeans · 27/05/2010 10:21

They will get better in time and 'fill up' again. The pill/mirena coil etc help abit too if you are on anything like that. The length of time I bf didn't make much difference either.

sorky · 27/05/2010 10:26

Before my pg's I was petite, but firm and they have gone back to that (more or less) after each one. I suspect though that 4 kids and getting older, might've done them in this time.

I've only just stopped bf the 15mo, so I'll give them 6 months to return to normal otherwise I'll consider surgery.

Milliways · 27/05/2010 10:31

After DD, they went back to normal quite quickly, but after DS they had stretch marks and never fully "deflated" again. I used to be a B cup, am now a D - but they never sagged.

DD was a 6lb baby, induced early who fed for hours on end, and I fed her until I went back to work at 7m old, DS was 9lb 6oz, also fed well and I thought I was going to explode - they grew like melons

jellybeans · 27/05/2010 10:38

It's awful that we are made to feel our breasts must be perfect/youthful etc even after having babies. It is just not a worry to many other cultures. It is so sad that some people feel they need 'surgery' to make the look 'better'. (No offence to anyone who has had/is having surgery). It just makes me mad that people are made to feel that way.

MathsMadMummy · 27/05/2010 10:47

Where? Where's the badger?!

we were talking about this (boobs, not badgers) at peer supporter training and the HV running the course said that it's pregnancy that changes your boobs (pretty much permanently) NOT breastfeeding. she also said a good bra (whether BFing or not) is vital. we were also talking about the culture of boobs being for men, makes me very annoyed/sad that people avoid BF for that reason

good thing I'm not bothered, I just ordered my new nursing bra (from Bravissimo) it's a 38J

warthog · 27/05/2010 10:48

mine didn't change very much. went from a d to a dd, then when stopped, back to a d.

pagwatch · 27/05/2010 10:51

Oooh yes! It is a very very nice badger SOH...

FWIW I am still gorgeous.

ronshar · 27/05/2010 10:52

As my DD2 asked me recently "mummy why do you boobs fall down when you take off your bra?"

Nuff said I think.

sorky · 27/05/2010 10:54

If I have a boob job it will be for me because I would like fantastic looking boobs again. Dh not bothered one jot

Lizzylou · 27/05/2010 10:55

Hmmmm I won't be passing that pencil test thing anytime soon.

I am mid-30s and had two bf babies, I wasn't planning on whapping them out for Razzle anyway.

crumpette · 27/05/2010 11:04

Hmm mine went back to normal after BFing the first time. When I first stopped they looked a bit shrivelled but after about 2 months they went back to normal and I was really quite happy with them.. I was younger then (22) The second time, we shall see.....

pagwatch · 27/05/2010 11:06

ahh yes crumpet. Mine went back first time. 2nd time, not so much, 3rd time ...

ClenchedBottom · 27/05/2010 11:06

It is a particularly interesting-looking badger, don't you think?

[Aubade Emoticon]

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 27/05/2010 11:09

I fed ds for 18 months and dd for over 2 years, they are identical in size and shape as before I ever got pregnant.

My stomach is totally fucked though.

frikonastick · 27/05/2010 11:12

nearly 2 years on and mine are pretty much back to how they were. not quite as perky, but i still pass the pencil test! i was a B/C cup and am now a proper C.

traceybath · 27/05/2010 11:12

LOL @ Lizzy and razzle.

Well I'm stiff bf dc3 but oh dear - they're droopy and they used to be so nice.

But hey ho.

I would consider an uplift but would rather spend the money on beautiful bras instead.

ClenchedBottom · 27/05/2010 11:12

Narrows eyes, but pities WhereTheWildThingsAre for missing splendid views of Particularly Interesting Badgers...

Unfortunately I seem to have a double whammy with the horrid stomach, though (or if it's norks and stomach I guess that's a triple whammy?)

Back to Badger Watch....

crumpette · 27/05/2010 11:13

Oh dear yes I noted some stomach crepery this morning

Oh look, the badger's moonwalking!! Over there!! Quick!

ClenchedBottom · 27/05/2010 11:16

Anyone else noticed that the badger's wearing an Aubade balconnette????

howdidthishappenthen · 27/05/2010 11:16

LOL at the moonwalking badger. Boobs are good (2 DCs down), stomach pretty flat but with baggy skin and a bit crepey.

senseofhumourfailure · 27/05/2010 12:09

Only have one DD, EBF for 7 months and she is now 2 years old. Used to have nice pert B cups, they are now officially still B cups but I need to roll them up into my bra.

They seriously look like empty socks

But loved the time I breastfed and will do it again with future DC.

ReneRusso · 27/05/2010 12:15

Very droopy I'm afraid,
But I'm far more concerned about my stomach.
And the Badger.
