Wanted: Wet Nurses.

Wouldn't it be great if you could look up a wet nurse in the Yellow Pages then go for a night out even when BF? They had wet nurses (women who'd BF your baby for you) in days of yore.
My mw told me if a woman has lactated she can do so again, even ten years down the line, just as long as a baby sucks for long enough. Has anyone heard of this?

no sorry pappillion- breastfeeding a cat really does cross a line in my opinion and i can't believe everyone else has just passed this by. A cat!!

chipmonkey · 01/07/2005 22:56

BIL tried mine by mistake when warming a feed for ds1. He actually wasn't too bothered but SIL was

ThePrisoner · 01/07/2005 23:36

Men have nipples so that they can have them pierced ... ?? Same reason that bellybuttons were invented.

alexsmum · 01/07/2005 23:46

sorry to harp on about this but.....A CAT!!!!
am actually sitting here laughing because i can't believe i'm the only person who is raising an eyebrow over this??????????????

Pruni was not lactating and no it did not hurt

humans are so righteous - its alright for an animal to surrogate nurse another animal, eg cat/dog, in fact its all warm fuzzies, so whats the big deal when a animal wants to bond with a two legged.

Laugh all you like! It was beautiful to me.

Papillon · 02/07/2005 07:33

Excuse me if I come across abit sensitive, I have alot of emotional memories about this particular cat - very close to my heart

NotQuiteCockney · 02/07/2005 07:36

I've not had a cat who went for my boobs, but a friend had one who used to "nurse" on her earlobes. I don't see why this sort of thing is weirder than, say, a dog nursing kittens, or, say, people drinking milk from cows.

Pets are family, really.

I'm not saying I'd necessarily nurse a kitten, I have enough trouble with DS2's claws, but I also don't see it as that weird.

(There was a woman in Thailand (??) recently who was bf a tiger. The tiger wouldn't take bottles, I think?)

Papillon · 02/07/2005 08:00

thanks for the support NQC - a tiger would have larger claws than a cat! found a link about it

PEople drink from cows (although) not directly) so why is the thought of a cat drinking from us so awful. Cant say I'd contemplate bf a cat but cant say Pap's post made me raise any eyebrows.

Next we'll be giving cats cows milk .

fastasleep · 02/07/2005 11:43

Kittens are almost as cute as babies I don't see the problem!

fastasleep · 02/07/2005 11:44

I've seen people directly drinking from cows before anyway... that's worse than feeding a kitten, it's like cow abuse!

snafu · 02/07/2005 12:00

My best friend and I both had babies around the same time and when she had problems with bfing, the idea of me wet-nursing her dd was casually mentioned. I don't think it would have bothered me, although we didn't go through with it in the end. Not terribly convenient though as we didn't live close enough to feed on-demand - I guess I could have given her lots of ebm though

mum2max · 02/07/2005 14:53

I've just sat here and read through whole thread. What a strange and wonderful world we live in! Have been told that all babies nipples can leak milk when exposed to lots of hormones during birth. Even boys, there breasts can swell up at birth, so why not in later life.

My ds is 7.5 mth now, and I stopped bf about a month ago. My friend is 14 weeks pregnant, when she was holding him he tried to root and latch on!!! So it seems he wouldn't mind who it was as long as he got some fodder...

ditto- a cat??

mind you saying that, my 2 cats are on a diet and they'd probably have a go given half the chance. I did catch them once "cleaning" each other's genitals when they were kittens - but that's a whole other thread!!

Papillon · 02/07/2005 16:13

ha ha, I done that too... well my father squirted the cow tit at me! Not a direct suck... would be afraid of being kicked. Gosh I have been around!

fastasleep · 02/07/2005 17:06

Cow abuse I say! No one asks the cow 'please ma'am may I have a squeeze?'

Papillon · 02/07/2005 17:48

I hear you sister - its mammory abuse full scale keeping the beautiful bovine kingdom lactating just so we could have this milk product.

mum2max · 02/07/2005 20:56

whiskas do a "cat milk" that's just cows milk dripped through a load of enzymes to make it sweeter.
perhaps that means cats wouldn't take your milk paps even when, sorry if, you offered it to them.

mum2max · 02/07/2005 20:56

reminds me of the "meet the Parents" sketch on milking a cat

Papillon · 02/07/2005 22:03

If the tigers find it tasty, puss surely does too

This monkey seems to like it!!!! now that is abit of unorthodox wet nurse action!

Rainbow · 03/07/2005 14:09

That is weird if you ask me. BFing a monkey. i did see on a programme once a pupy being BF by a woman. It can't be good for the animals. I mean, Tigress' milk is made for tiger cubs, cow's milk for calves, bitch's milk for puppies, a woman's milk for a baby. The milk is not designed for their species so it can't be that good for them. You wouldn't feed a baby on cow's milk alone would you?.

hercules · 03/07/2005 14:15

What do you think formula is?

mum2max · 03/07/2005 20:49

lol, how on earth did you find that one Pap??? I'm glad there weren't any monkeys around when i was bf, i was too tired to probably notice... And besides, ds was quite hairy when he was born
