KEAWYED · 15/07/2009 10:05

Hi DS3 is 9 weeks old and i've not had my periods return.

DS1 and DS3 returned within 6 weeks I had what I thought was the start of a period but just a slight smear then nothing.

Help please. Thanks

When DS was 6 months old and was exclusively bf.

I don't know any of the evidence but wonder if your BMI has anything to do with it, mine has been between 25-27 since DS was born.

My very skinny friend has just got her 1st period 17 months after her DS's birth, she stopped bf 3 months ago.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who knows more about it, any theories KEAWYED?

ExpositionDesMains · 15/07/2009 10:13

4 months. DD exclusively bfing every 2hrs day and night. Was robbed.

sambo303 · 15/07/2009 10:14

Hi keawyed I bf'd exclusively for 6 months then started food too and my period came back 9 months after ds was born. That said, I have increased bfing this last month (due to the heat?) and have had no period yet in July so I think I may skip July's.

I think it varies woman to woman, are you exclusively bfing or mixed feeding?

Amapoleon · 15/07/2009 10:15

It differs for everyone. Mine unfortunately came back within 6 weeks, both times. I have a friend whose didn't come back for 18 months. We were both breastfeeding.

BunnyLebowski · 15/07/2009 10:19

I'm on almost 10 months and no sign of it! Yay!

Still exclusively breastfeeding dd.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 15/07/2009 10:21

6 weeks. breastfed for 4 months.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 15/07/2009 10:21

5 months...

GeorgeTheSlitheen · 15/07/2009 10:24

5 weeks with DD, 6 with DS.

Both prem so was expressing for them ever couple of hours.

Was mighty pissed off.

KingRolo · 15/07/2009 10:31

Still breastfeeding DD but had a short (4 day) period when she was 7 months old and another at 8 1/2 months old.

KEAWYED · 15/07/2009 10:35

montifer my bmi is on the wrong side of normal....

I've just introduced a formula feed at 11pm which is an extra feed it hasnt replaced a breast feed. otherwise its all breast.

ive started taking the mini-pill instead of microgynon and i worry about another pregnancy. the word mini makes me think its not as effective.

20 months and counting...

We've just started night-weaning in the hope that this will make me slightly more fertile. Last night I had 7 hours with a breastfeed, which is the longest gap we've ever had!

KingRolo · 15/07/2009 10:41

Does the BMI make a difference? Mine is 21.

nigglewiggle · 15/07/2009 10:45

Mine was about 10 months for both. My BMI is far from the skinny end of the scale .

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 15/07/2009 10:46

DD 6 weeks ex bf. DS I got a period when he was 9 months and had a stomach bug and fed a bit less for only 24 hours but they went away again until he was 15 months.
My bmi was 25-27 both times.

Steaknife · 15/07/2009 12:53

Still bfing at ten months and still no sign. My BMI is low, i don't know if that makes a difference but i do know that if your weight falls below 7 and a half stone your periods stop. Equally girls dont start their periods until they reach this weight.

4andnotout · 15/07/2009 12:56

My dd4 is 8 mo and still bf and no period as yet!

Bit of a bugger really as i want to ttc asap!

ButterbeerAndLemon · 15/07/2009 12:57

Nine months first time, just over 12 months second time.

(No one will ever, ever describe my BMI as low. Or at least, not without then rolling on their back convulsed with laughter waving their legs in the air...)

KEAWYED, you might not get periods on the mini-pill; some women don't (others like me find they get almost constant breakthrough bleeding on it).

tinierclanger · 15/07/2009 12:59

I'm on mini-pill too. Had one mini-period at around 6 months, another at around 10 months and nothing since (DS nearly 12 months).

I was on mini-pill prior to DS and had regular periods then, don't know whether everything has changed for good and no more regular periods, or whether this is because I'm still BF. I have been a bit underweight as well since DS was born but have put some weight back on now. Lots of contributory factors really!

HeadFairy · 15/07/2009 13:00

9 months... about a month after I started work, I was still bfing twice a day but I guess my hormones weren't enough to keep the periods at bay any more.

My bmi is perilously high in the overweight category (somewhere in the mid 20s) so I'm not sure it had any influence in my case....

belgo · 15/07/2009 13:03

DD1: eight weeks (I was so annoyed)
DD2: 9 months
DS; 9 months.

All exclusively breastfed.

SachaF · 15/07/2009 13:04

4 months with ds1. Exclusively bfing and several times at night. Bfed him until 13 months. Like EDM I was robbed!

7 months with dd. Began weaning at 5.5 months onto solids. On to an occasional bottle at 6.5 months and not weaned fully to formula until 8 months.

4 and not out - You can still ttc! You might get lucky and fall pregnant without having a period!

belgo · 15/07/2009 13:04

I don't see why BMI would make a difference?

BunnyLebowski · 15/07/2009 13:05

4andnotout - you do know you can get preggers when bf'ing don't you?

And do you not have enough on your hands you mad woman without going for a fifth? (only messing - if money and space were no object I would have 27!)
