Elle: In support of breastfeeding
Supermodel Elle Macpherson has challenged hospitals to do more to help women breastfeed successfully.
The Australian said it was "incredible" that there was not one hospital in London with a "baby friendly" award.

These are given to hospitals which adhere to Unicef/WHO recognised best practice in the care of breastfeeding mothers and babies.

Ms Macpherson, Unicef's "baby friendly ambassador", visited a women's centre in Whitechapel, east London, and said: "I find it incredible that in the whole of this capital, which counts some of the best teaching hospitals in the world, there isn't a single baby friendly hospital.
"I find it shocking that London women have no choice over where to go to receive good care."

Ms Macpherson said she breast-fed her two sons for six months, and knew how important breastfeeding was.

"The challenge is to build on individual energies and positive efforts going on around the capital and build a baby friendly London," she said.

"I challenge the 31 hospitals and five strategic health authorities to work to become baby friendly.

"I urge mothers, fathers and parents-to-be to write to the chief executives of hospitals and call on them to embark on a baby friendly road."

Ms Macpherson, wearing an olive green jacket, skin-tight white trousers and large sunglasses, met mothers and support workers from the local community during her visit to the Jagonari women's centre.

That's so Aloha. Why do people sell their souls to be in these mags? Surely Lady Helen isn't that hardup??

It's nasty that Avent would have such a deceitful promotional method, too. Surely, that would be the people to target?

ghosty · 14/05/2005 08:44

at Hello magazine .... awful!
Elle's bras were great for me ... admittedly I don't have humungous breasts so I can't comment about that but they are nice and stretchy so they accommodated the, ahem, 'rise and fall' of my boobs throughout the day ...
Much better than the mothercare ones I had when I had DS.
I expect she gave up at 6 months because, like many women, she went back to work????????

hoxtonchick · 14/05/2005 08:51

oooh, i thought that helen windsor interview was strange - in the article she kept going on about breastfeeding but the pics were all of enormous bottles. didn't buy it, honest, was just browsing....

NotQuiteCockney · 14/05/2005 08:52

I have one of the Elle Macpherson bras, very pretty, but it's entirely made out of lace. I don't generally wear lace. I find it incredibly itchy.

ghosty · 14/05/2005 09:06

Mine weren't lace NQC ... just a little bit at the top. If they were lace I wouldn't have liked them at all ... hate lacey bras ...
