Supermodel supports breastfeeding

Elle: In support of breastfeeding
Supermodel Elle Macpherson has challenged hospitals to do more to help women breastfeed successfully.
The Australian said it was "incredible" that there was not one hospital in London with a "baby friendly" award.

These are given to hospitals which adhere to Unicef/WHO recognised best practice in the care of breastfeeding mothers and babies.

Ms Macpherson, Unicef's "baby friendly ambassador", visited a women's centre in Whitechapel, east London, and said: "I find it incredible that in the whole of this capital, which counts some of the best teaching hospitals in the world, there isn't a single baby friendly hospital.
"I find it shocking that London women have no choice over where to go to receive good care."

Ms Macpherson said she breast-fed her two sons for six months, and knew how important breastfeeding was.

"The challenge is to build on individual energies and positive efforts going on around the capital and build a baby friendly London," she said.

"I challenge the 31 hospitals and five strategic health authorities to work to become baby friendly.

"I urge mothers, fathers and parents-to-be to write to the chief executives of hospitals and call on them to embark on a baby friendly road."

Ms Macpherson, wearing an olive green jacket, skin-tight white trousers and large sunglasses, met mothers and support workers from the local community during her visit to the Jagonari women's centre.

Am 32-34G, so back size has an effect on cup size - if I had a broader back, I'd have smaller boobs, iyswim.

M&S have a much nicer range of nursing bras than when I started feeding DS a year and a bit ago! They only had a choice(!) of two white ones in a box then.

dinny · 13/05/2005 22:04

better to have a small back, big cup though - lucky you HM.

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:05

Not lucky in summer - need scaffolding! And strappy doesn't enter into my wardrobe

dinny · 13/05/2005 22:07

ha ha. have to day am eagerly awaiting the return of my scant bosom when stop bfing. or do they get smaller the longer you do it?

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:09

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:09

Mine got smaller [gloom] They are like two sad little beanbags now.

I loved bf-ing if just for the fabulous knockers...

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:10

"Ah, well, I wouldn't know about that, being perfectly-perkily-proportioned all the way through mwahahahahaha"

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:11

Yeah yeah yeah - a girl can lie, can't she?

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:11

Totally! Really I'm a 52AA

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:12

Pah! I knew it!

aloha · 13/05/2005 22:15

Did you see the Hello feature about Lady Helen Windsor (as was). Part of the Hello deal with payment is that celebs with babies always have to be seen bottle feeding with Avent bottles. Lady Helen was emphatic that she was feeding EBM in her bottles as she was breastfeeding. Good for her, I thought.
Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Jerry Hall are all breastfeeding fans.

hercules · 13/05/2005 22:15

at that about Hello

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:16

So is Courtney Cox Arquette, apparently.

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:16

completely ed

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:17

Snafu, I wasn't telling the truth in one of those posts - either the 52AA one or the 32-34G one Up to you to decide which one!

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:17

Are you saying you've got one of each?

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:18

Can I just clarify - they have to be seen feeding their baby with an Avent bottle, even if the baby's never had a bottle?

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:18

Snafu!

hercules · 13/05/2005 22:18

You'd look like this

O .

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:19

herc!

Now we know why you walk the way you do, hunker

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:20

I cannot imagine what you mean. Doesn't everyone walk in circles?

snafu · 13/05/2005 22:20

Er, yes dear. They do.

aloha · 13/05/2005 22:21

It's TRUE! I used to work for them.... (Hello that is, not Avent)

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:21

(Kept that secret, didn't I?)

hunkermunker · 13/05/2005 22:21

Aloha, even fully breastfed babies who've never had bottles?
