Salma Hayek BFing infant boy in Africa

For those of you who are interested Dlisted (very snarky blog) has posted a video of Salma Hayek on a Unicef visit in Sierra Leone.
They're discussing the issues of infant mortality and how BFing plays such an important role in helping eradicate it.
Salma herself (still nursing her one year old daughter) decides to nurse a sick week old infant.
I just saw the clip and it's incredibly sweet and emotional- not to mention informative.

Have a look on Dlisted.com. I'm sure it's on much more serious websites but haven't found it anywhere else yet.

link here, scroll down

The snarky blog is a bit but the video is interesting and is amazing to see a celebrity cross feed. Really great.

link without snarky blog (although not necessarily "serious")

PortAndLemon · 10/02/2009 14:43

The opening scene is fantastically sad, though.

aurorec · 10/02/2009 14:43

I know pooka sorry for those offended!
I just thought that video was definitely worth seeing.
Thanks for posting the link.

What a fantastic thing to do for that child.

ruty · 10/02/2009 14:44

loving Salma Hayek at the moment, what a lovely thing to do.

pooka · 10/02/2009 14:44

Not offended at all!

And thank you for giving the info in the first place. It's a really interesting subject. I certainly would cross feed in that situation. I like Salma.

PortandLemon it was.
The poor mother looked so lost and bewildered. The thought that those babies could be saved so easily makes me sick.

What a lovely video, it restores faith in human nature.

PortAndLemon · 10/02/2009 14:51

I'm reasonably certain not -- think about the logistics involved.

SobranieCocktail · 10/02/2009 14:52

Thank you so much for that aurorec and pooka. What an amazing video. Unbearably sad and also hugely heartwarming. Salma Hayek is just fabulous.

ruty · 10/02/2009 14:53

they actually showed a baby's last breath rather glossed over i felt.

Is it newborn tetanus these babies are getting? When do they vaccinate? At birth?

yes it is rather a wake up call. That poor child.

aurorec · 10/02/2009 14:57

ruty, I didn't feel it wasn't glossed over. Sadly when you hear the awful statistics it's evident that they see many newborn deaths in the clinic.

Haven't watched the video but that's so sad, I don't think I could have done that knowing that I would have to hand the baby back to whatever was going to happen.

HeadFairy · 10/02/2009 14:59

can't watch sad things, too hormonal I did forward to the bit where she fed the baby, I love Salma Hayek, what a woman!

traceybath · 10/02/2009 15:00

Thank you for posting that. It made me cry (in a good way) - such a lovely thing to do.

The first part of the video was so sad.

Upwind · 10/02/2009 15:01

Can't believe the headline is about cross feeding rather than tetanus when you see the content.

suwoo · 10/02/2009 15:01

Gosh that actually bought tears to my eyes. I'd like to see Angelina doing that .
