I am feeling a bit lonely. All the other mum's I know have stopped and I think they think I am weird for still feeding DS who is 14 months. I am totally comfortable with still feeding him, he loves it and I see no reason to stop but sometimes when I am with other mums I feel like a bit of a freak!

Hello Stefka! I started a thread on this exact topic earlier today, did you see it? Don't feel lonely, I'm doing the same (dd is 12months and no plans to stop) and I got tons of lovely replies from others.

Grendle · 05/01/2009 19:36

Hello . I'm feeding ds aged 3 years 8 months and dd aged almost 17 months.

Hello, my ds turned 1 just over a week ago! Don't know anyone else in RL who is still bfing an over 1 yo (apart from a couple of MNers I've met ).

ChairmumMiaow · 05/01/2009 19:48

Hello!

DS is 2 weeks off 12 months and is 'still' going. We've been getting asked how long we're going to keep going from about 7mo.

He's only dropped most of his day feeds (still generally has one) over Xmas (I stopped feeding him unless we couldn't distract him with food during the day as he was biting at every feed and he didn't complain at all!)

If people ask me when I'm going to stop I generally say "well if he's still going at 3 we'll have a talk about it". I'm happy he's cut down, but am definitely the freak of my group (I don't know anyone locally who is planning to carry on past one, and lots switched to formula at 6mo or before)

Anyway, well done for getting this far in the face of everyone thinking we're freaks!

Hello! DD2 is 14.5 months and still going with morning and late afternoon feeds with a few random ones thrown in as and when. I don't know anyone irl who fed past 1 and DD1 self-weaned at 13 months, so it's all new to me!

roomforthree · 05/01/2009 20:23

Hello! I'm feeding DD, 19 months and DS2, 9 weeks. Others always have opinions, especially about tandem nursing, and I am frequently asked if DD is "still" feeding. I just smile and nod, then change the subject. I am certainly seen as a freak by the school mums!

skidaddle · 05/01/2009 20:29

hello!
DS nearly 13 months. Was planning to stop at 12 months but now that he is there, he still seems like a baby and he loves it, so we are still going although I am too self-conscious to feed in public now. Great to know there are lots of us even if it's not RL!

Stefka · 05/01/2009 20:38

Yay! I knew MN would make me feel less weird!

I also feel too self conscious to feed in public now which I feel kind of sad about as I really don't like to say no when he asks. He's easily distracted when we are out and about though so it hasn't become a big problem.

Hello
DS is nearly 13 months and still breastfeeding. I stoppped feeding dd at 5.5 months and the concept of feeding a 1+ year old was strange to me but ds is still my baby.

I recently started giving him cows milk in the day though to try and reduce the hundreds of feeds he was having and am in the process of trying to cut down the many nightfeeds...Am happy to keep feeding him for now but I do need a little sleep

LaTrucha · 05/01/2009 20:50

Hello!

We're still going. DD 1 on the 1st of January. Quite content to carry on as long as I get pg with DC2 in good time.

Do feel a lovely sense of achievement about having done it til one. There was a time I though I wouldn't make it to 6 weeks.

I think it was having mums around me who were bf one plus year olds that helped me so well done if you didn't!

Stefka · 05/01/2009 20:51

Oh me too LaTrucha! The start was just hell and I nearly didn't make it. So glad I stuck it out now, DS just loves it!

well done for feeding so long. thats fantastic. are there no breastfeeding groups in your area?

my 1st fed for 15 months and tbh i would have fed longer but i was pregnant and getting too big.

my dd is 9 months and as shes my last i want to keep it going as long as possible! i'm dreading stopping!

LaTrucha · 05/01/2009 20:55

Luuuuvverly, isn't it?

Though I am glad (massive understatement of my life) she's dropped night feeds

Itcanwait · 05/01/2009 21:15

Hi. My DD is only 6 months but I'm hoping to feed beyond 1 year (made it to 10 months with DS). This is a really encouraging thread-hope to be back in 6 months time!

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/01/2009 21:18

Hi Stefka. I'm feeding dd (2 yrs 11 months) and ds (12 weeks). I think that most people are starting to accept that we'll probably carry on going until dd self-weans.

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 05/01/2009 21:20

Enjoy being a freak, Stefka

CharCharGabor · 05/01/2009 21:22

I'm bfing DD at 17 months. And currently in fact as she won't sleep

luvaduck · 05/01/2009 21:28

hello! me too. ds is 16 months and we both love it. I also don't know anyone else in RL feeding at this age.

well done by the way

Cadmum · 05/01/2009 21:31

I am still BF dd2 who is 2 years 10 months.

In fact, I am trying my best to convince her that we should sleep at night and only BF during the day because she is up to feed more often now than when she was a newborn. Cue VERY, VERY tired mum,

Stefka · 06/01/2009 10:08

Yeah the night feeding is hard going. DS had me up at five and fed for an hour - not fun!

Glad I am not alone in my freakery!

Yeps, I am nursing 28 month old DD and 4 month old DS

broguemum · 06/01/2009 10:24

Reading this thread I don't feel so strange anymore... DS is 13 months and has one or maybe two feeds a day (if he asks for one at night). No-one knows we are still bf except DH as the feeds are early morning or just before bedtime. I'm sure he'll stop completely soon though. Makes me a bit to think it is coming to an end but am v. we kept going so long.

Hadeda · 06/01/2009 10:43

Me too - DD was one yesterday and she still feeds morning and night. And a few odd other ones her and there. I don't feed in public anymore though, partly because I've stopped wearning nursing bras (wanted to feel "pretty" again!), but if anyone asks if I'm still feeding her I do say yes. Which mostly shocks them into silence!

numptysmummy · 06/01/2009 10:52

Just stopped feeding dd 30mths because she was starting to mess about rather than feed but enjoyed it up until now. My first 2 weaned themselves off at around 18mths and 3rd was 17mths because i was hospitalised. Do it as long as you are both happy!
