Return of periods when exclusively breastfeeding

If you exclusively breastfed, when did your periods start again? I have just started one when my ds is 12 weeks old. That seems early to me.

When I stopped bf, when he was 12 months.

I just got my first one, very small, at 10 months. I have been on the progesterone only pill though.

With ds1 didnt get period till stopped bf.
With ds2 at 8 weeks, at two week intervals I was not impressed

I answered a similar thread recently and it varied enormously. Mine didn't come back until DD was 15 months (spookily two years to the day of my last one).

First period came about a month after I went back to work and I went down to just two feeds a day (ds was 8 months old)

9 months when DD was down to 3 feeds a day. Coincided with my fitting back into my pre-pregnancy jeans

might not be a period...you might be 'doing too much'

however it could be...you'll know next month.

i didnt have a period untill i stopped feeding at 14 months ish...what a hideous shock that was [madwoman emoticon]

About 3.5 months, though I fed until 18 months.

Felt quite let down.

Mine came back when DD started sleeping through the night at 6 months. I wasn't fertile though as DH and I were trying, managed to finally get PG again the month after I stopped BF completely.

Have friends who have not got period back until after stopped BF altogether at 12m+.

I'm sure it varies hugely. Wonder if age has any connection?

With first dc: at 8 weeks (damn), bf'd until 21 months. With second dc: at 12 weeks. (also damn), bf'd until his 2nd birthday. Ya win some, ya lose some.

I've never had anything until about 4 weeks after I stopped. even when I was doing one feed a day at 12 months I got nothing.

ps: was over 40 the second time around.

I've still not got mine, dd is 12mo, but she isn't sleeping through the night, a friend got hers when her little one did that at some really early age.. Every cloud and all that..

Mine came back 3 weeks ago. DD is just 9 months and I'm still BFing 4-5 times a day.

Mine came back when DS was 7.5 months. I was still feeding 5 times a day and expressing too.

Thanks for all the replies. I felt a bit put out for putting in the effort (and currently pain) of bf, but to have to deal with a period as well. Dc sleeps between 5 and 7 hours at night, so maybe that was enough. He does feed often during the day.

I don't think how long the babies sleep have anything to do with it: both of mine were unbearably awful sleepers and not even sleeping for 2 hours between feeds when my periods returned. I had the Mirena coil put in when I got my period back the second time, which stopped the bleeds completely, but I continued bfing for another 21 months after that.

I bf dd1 until she was 13 months, got pregnant with dd2 at 11 months, no period until DD2 was 11 months old.
In all went 2 and a half years with no period but they are worse now than they ever were!

at 3mths just about the time my hair started to fall out too. But among my friends I was in the minority, most were later or when the finished bf.

Both kids bf, periods came back at about 11 months when we were starting to drop off the bfing.

Friend bf same as me (for over a year) and she got her's after 12 weeks too. It's just luck I think.

I fed my dd for 13 months and my periods came back at 3 months, which i think was down to her sleeping through from 9-12 weeks for 10-12 hrs. Unfortunately for me she didn't sleep through again until she was 19 months so i had the pleasure of periods and sleep deprivation.... I'm currently exclusively breastfeeding my ds who is 5 months and no sign of a period yet

I breastfed for 14 months, periods came back 10 weeks after dd was born!
