Return of periods when exclusively breastfeeding

If you exclusively breastfed, when did your periods start again? I have just started one when my ds is 12 weeks old. That seems early to me.

Periods? What are they? Haven't had one since 11 months before DD was born (having had a miscarriage the month before I conceived her). Thought I was having one when she was 10 months old, but it was another miscarriage and then the very next month conceived DS, so I'm hoping it'll be a while yet

6 weeks both times.

littlelamb · 27/11/2008 22:43

With dd they came back at about 8 weeks iirc. Certainly before 3 months, and prett regular straightaway. SHe was in full time childcare from 10 weeks though, although I was obviously expressing many times during the day. Ds is 6 months in a few days and so far they have not returned, but he has been with me constantly and despite my best efforts is reluctant to take a bottle so I do think that has had some kind of effect. They both co slept and fed on demand

About 9 months but they were lighter than usual

WTSS · 27/11/2008 23:09

12 weeks 1st time, 11 weeks 2nd.
am delighted. means i can go for number 3

sphil · 27/11/2008 23:11

Fed DS1 for 13 months, periods came back at 7 months, just in time to get pregnant with DS2!

Cryptoprocta · 27/11/2008 23:34

14 weeks. She's 18 weeks now so we'll see. I've had the odd day where I've gone to work and expressed, which may have contributed. It was quite short.

The oddest thing is that I can now tell exactly when I'm ovulating, which I couldn't before.

CarGirl · 27/11/2008 23:44

4 months the first time, 6 weeks with the next 2

LazySleepy · 28/11/2008 12:17

deaconblue · 28/11/2008 12:18

[drums fingers]

she does feed at night still though

joyfuleyes · 28/11/2008 13:14

6 & 7 months - pretty soon after they started having some solids. Couldn't conceive until they were night weaned though (16 & 18 montsh), then conceived quickly.

determination · 28/11/2008 13:29

i didn't get mine back until dd1 was 16 months, dd2 was 20 months but both fed very regular through out the night.

I have a friend who got hers back at 6 weeks and she was exc bfing. However, her dd slept 12 hours every night.

I think it may be something to do with the prolactin levels and night feeds.

Wow, the power of Mumsnet! It was really interesting to get all your replies. Experiences really do differ. I am just one of the unlucky ones, but obviously still normal. I am thinking of getting a Mirena coil as when I had one before my periods stopped.

Thank you
