How often were you breastfeeding your LO when they turned 1 year old?

Reason I ask is that I am planning to return to work 3 days a week when DD is 1 (well actually probably 11 months) and am planning to keep bf, but ideally not expressing at work.

Would be great to feed her in morning and at night but not sure what to expect at that age. If she is still needing feeds during day then I will have to work out a way to express but just wondering what people's experiences are?

Also, is my supply establsihed enough and clever enough to be able to feed her during the day 4 days a week but not during the day for 3 days (without expressing) or will that just confuse her?

I went back to work when DD was 8 months old, but only part time. I pumped at the 11 and 3 o'clock feeds (only used to get about 4 ounces) and she had that at those days in nursery. BF'ed the rest of the time. When she turned one, I stopped pumping, and when the frozen milk ran out (about 3 weeks later), she had cows milk or no milk at nursery and was fine.

Try whatever routine you think you can sustain and see if she will fit in! Your supply will cope with it. I couldn't face pumping in the loo any more after 4 months and as I was getting so little (down to 1 or 2 ounces by then) it was too depressing!

I dropped the 11 feed at 13 months and the 3 feed at 14 months so it was just on nursery days she didn't get that milk at first.

Think your supply will cope with it fine.
She can have blue milk now anyway can't she? And is presumably eating quite well.
It will be fine

same for me just dropped it to morning and evening at 1 - he was ready as eats well at mealtime and doesn't look for it in the day.

Oh and no idea how often I was feeding a 1 year old during the day but at night it was about 10 times - cue the 'get baby out of the bed' mission. LOL

She is 7 months just now.

I can't imagine I will have time to express more than once a day at work (and even then I will be a bloody laughing stock as work with loads of immature men

So fourlittlefeet after your frozen supply ran out she had cows milk at nursery but did you still feed her during the day on non-nursery days?

I dropped to 2 feeds a day at 7 months. Didn't replace with formula, just gave LOADS of cows milk in food, cheese and yoghurt.

Ahhh thanks. Yes, she can have blue milk at 12 months but not at 11 I guess. If she still needed milk during day I would have to express for a month I suppose.

my dd is 13 months now and still bf. I work 2-3 days and have done since about 8 months. I always bf first thing in the am, late evening and night feeds, then once in the day if I'm at home. When I'm working she drinks cows milk from a cup but used to have ff in a bottle. My work isn't regular but my supply has kept up (V. clever) and as long as dd is fed she doesn't mind where it comes from. I think by this age your body makes as much or as little as you need. The only trouble I have is if she sleeps well and misses her morning feed, then I come home from wk with a super-sized bust!

Yes peach. she didn't really have that much milk at nursery and I think sort of made up for it when she saw me. I didn't really worry about it too much as it wasn't every day that she was getting less milk.

the pumping is less awful than you think; I got one of those avent bags that keep things cold/hot and froze a brestmilk bag of water to put in there. Then I kept the expressed milk in there next to it (the whole bottle fitted in there) until I got home. That way no embarrasing breast milk in work fridge scenarios!

peachsmuggler You won't have to express. Your LO will be having cows milk in cereal and cooking. Provided she is getting bm too, I'd personally just give milk for other feeds, if at all.

Someone at work who did it was given her own mini fridge to keep by her desk and of course everyone (men) thought this was hilarious...

Ds3 is 12mo. He has bf as soon as he gets up and last thing before bed. And tbh, I think it's comfort/habit rather than for full-on nutritional requirements.

I went back when DS was almost 12 months and fed him once first thing and then last thing at night. He had cows milk at nursery no probs and we carried on with the two feeds until he was 19mo.

Mine is 14mo now, and for the past few months has been down to about three feeds a day. His biggest feed is his morning one, and then he usually has one at about 3/4pm, or later if he's been at nursery (he has a snuggle and a feed when we get home).

He dropped his evening feed in favour of a beaker of cow's milk about 2 weeks ago

At 12 months DD was still bf 4 times a day, but would happily skip one if I was away from her for a few hours (rarely as I'm a SAHM). I gave lots of sardines, cheese, yoghurt etc so that calcium was adequate.

How lovely to hear so many still bf after a year. I don't know anyone else and was starting to feel like the only one. My dd is 13 months and I have no plans to stop. Well done all you BF mums!
