What shall I do with my 8 month old frozen EBM?

I have loads. I painfully expressed loads and never really used much and now its over the 6 month mark. DD is 1 in 2 weeks and I am going to stop bf. can I give it to her? Or is it actually harmful if its over 6 months old?
I cant face pouring it down the sink!

Good God,don't waste it.It's pure gold!
Give it to her!!

KatyMac · 30/03/2008 22:21

Don't know if DD can have it, but if she can't I think you can make soap out of it (someone - can't remember who - on MN did)

PussinJimmyChoos · 30/03/2008 22:22

I wouldn't because breast milk actually changes according to the need of the child as it grows, so what you expressed then, wouldn't be any good for your child at the age she is now iyswim?

I sympathise - I expressed in the early days and it was hard work - every drop is like gold dust!!

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2008 22:24

DO NOT THROW IT OUT
use it
If not to drink then in cereal etc
Or I'll hvae it

moondog · 30/03/2008 22:24

What a lot of nonsense Puss.
So you think the stuff that comes out of a big hairy animal that eats grass a lot and farts constantly is nmore suitable do you???

Mung · 30/03/2008 22:25

soap What would people say when I tell them that they have just washed their hands in my EBM?

Surely its better than cows milk though, even if it has changed according to the needs of DD.

How about putting on the compost?

Breast milk soap - that's tremendous!! I express lots as I have a very strong let down which makes my ds sick if he feeds when I'm 'full'. I'd be really really interested in making soap from it as my freezer is filling up fast.

Gillian.

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2008 22:27

give it to your DD

PussinJimmyChoos · 30/03/2008 22:29

What's wrong with cows milk???

All I was saying was that breast milk changes as the child grows so what was expressed months ago, may not meet the nutritional requirements of a child now!

Mung · 30/03/2008 22:29

Thats what I was hoping to hear.

OP posts:
moondog · 30/03/2008 22:29

What, but cows' milk, which is intended for a completely different animal will??

Mung · 30/03/2008 22:30

To use it, I mean.

i sympathise with you - I have 4 or 5 bags of the beautiful golden first milk expressed in hospital when dd was tube fed - she was 2 this week! I just can't bear to throw it away. I think 8 month old milk would be fine but if you were worried then cook with it so it's been properly heated up - rice pudding?

Puss - that is one of the daftest comments I have ever seen. So what about all of the milk donated to milk banks and given to premature and poorly babies - I guess that milk probably wouldn't do them any good either?

PussinJimmyChoos · 30/03/2008 22:31

Why not? DS was on the cows milk (organic) by the time he was one and he's thriving!

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2008 22:31

PussIn - formula is completely static surely?
Plus her DD is 1 so it isn't as though it's her main source of nutrition anymore

PussinJimmyChoos · 30/03/2008 22:32

Oh fgs!

moondog · 30/03/2008 22:32

Oh cows' milk will do of course but to suggest or assume that breastmilk, even if old is not up to the job is frnakly madness.

Mung · 30/03/2008 22:33

Jenkey...are you going ot try the soap ?

OP posts:
PussinJimmyChoos · 30/03/2008 22:34

fgs to Jenky - not you Stealth

I read somewhere that using up EBM a few months after it was frozen, wasn't recommended as it changes in composition. Makes perfect sense to me. Also, I'm sure the expressed milk for premature babies etc is used within the correct time frame

moondog · 30/03/2008 22:34

What a lot of shit Puss.

princessmel · 30/03/2008 22:36

Do you mean soap or soup. I read it as soup.

KatyMac · 30/03/2008 22:38

I'm sure it was soap

I just can't remember who sorry

Pannacotta · 30/03/2008 22:38

Give it to your DD, I still give ebm to DS1 who is 3, I add it to his cereal.

moondog · 30/03/2008 22:38

It was soap.It was Handlemecarefully.
