I have loads. I painfully expressed loads and never really used much and now its over the 6 month mark. DD is 1 in 2 weeks and I am going to stop bf. can I give it to her? Or is it actually harmful if its over 6 months old?
I cant face pouring it down the sink!

solo, I think in the sixties, feeding on schedule was the big thing, women were advised to feed every four hours and no more which was disastrous for supply! MIL went on an on at me when ds1 was newborn about getting him on a "routine" and mentioned someone else who was "doing that demand feeding" and having very hard time. Eventually I lost patience and explained that if you didn't feed on demand, your supply didn't increase. After which, she paused and said "Oh, maybe that's what happened to me, then!"
Formula was being pushed in a big way so I think people were given a lot of advice that meant that bf simply wouldn't work out. Another thing MIL was told was to give the baby sugar-water for the first 3 days as what was in the breasts at that stage wasn't milk! As if colostrum had no value!
Akiandme, did it kill you to pour all that EBM away?

chipmonkey, my brother and I were fed on demand, but I think you are right, the formula was pushed big time in those (good old?!)days...

ff babies gain weight more quickly than bf, by and large and in those days a podgy baby was supposed to be a Good Thing!

You could be right, Starlight! I'm probably going more on anecdotal evidence ( I know, I know! ) from dh's family who don't bf but whose children all gained weight a lot quicker than mine! But they are a hefty bunch anyway!
