It was never about bottlefeeding v breastfeeding. For some of us, like me, we had to stop through no choice of our own. I then decided for many reasons not to put myself through it with dd.
If you have been successful with breastfeeding good on you and you were lucky. Some of us weren't so lucky.
I also believe that people who decide they just don't want to breastfeed are entirely within there right to do so without being so harshly criticised.

fairyfly · 15/11/2004 18:05

I was a young mum who breast fed, fio and i don't get on obviously how can we possibly get passed such differences. For a start im jelous of her boobs and shes jealous that my sons are sitting their gcse's next week

SoupDragon · 15/11/2004 18:06

Can we stop this now? Please?

fio2 · 15/11/2004 18:12

I'm just fascinated with milkless young socially inept working class breasts

I didn't mean to offend anyone - just felt this was the right thread for my oddity regarding formula rather than the young mums breastfeeding one. I do realise that it's a lifesaver for some babies and a feeding choice for others and I'm not belittling that in any way - I don't think my post did that.

I can be a monster though, very perceptive

handlemecarefully · 16/11/2004 09:05

I dont think your post did that either Hunkermunker. Didn't come across to me as the remotest bit critical

Flum · 16/11/2004 09:48

Formula does taste very odd doesn't it. Its got a wierd after taste.

Mind you only had a wee taste of boob milk as that is freaky in itself for some reason. V. sweet, quite nice. Can see why the bubbas go mad for it.

Dp was a bit freaked out when we were - you know and the milk started spraying out. hee hee

bigcheese · 16/11/2004 10:04

With you on that one hunkermunger.
Just think, they take milk meant for great big hairy snorting calves to a laboratory, add lots of weird things to it, whoosh it around in big stainless steel bins, then dry it out and spray it around, then put it in a box and leave it in a warehouse for months on end.

(Just check out the list of ingredients on the side of the box-you'll usually find it in very tiny tiny writing, marginally bigger than that legally required message about breastfeeding being best for babies)

Then it's mixed with water and put into a hard plastic bottle and pumped into the delicate little stomach of a tiny lovely baby.

Bon Appetit eh?!

breast is best breast is best AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough already

MummyToSteven · 16/11/2004 10:23

ah but hunkermunker would it have been any different if you had seen a carton of formula being poured into a bottle

Flum · 16/11/2004 10:25

Of cours you can't add whiskey to breast milk though can you. Only indirectly.

joanneg · 16/11/2004 10:25

see mts - you are thinking outside the box

MummyToSteven · 16/11/2004 10:29

or should that be carton joanneg

hunkermunker · 16/11/2004 12:50

I do feel different about ready-mixed formula and if I was going to give it to DS, it would have to be ready-mixed. But it still looks a bit gloopy for my liking. I'm just odd though, please don't read anything anti-formula into my comments!!

sweetkitty · 16/11/2004 20:05

I bought a few cartons just in case and was horrified to read the ingredients fish oil!!!! and loads of wierd stuff and I work in the food industry.

dinny · 16/11/2004 20:27

Sweetkitty, the fish oil is included for its essential fatty acids.
I am FED UP with all these smug women making anyone that bottlefeeds/fed their babies feel guilty. Not everyone chooses to bottlefeed - some (like me)couldn't establish bfing with my first child as she was premature. Expressed for six weeks until milk supply dried up. I was EXTREMELY depressed for a long time that I failed to feed my darling girl my milk for long and had to resort to formula. I do not need to be constantly reminded of a very unhappy time by people who are lucky enough to be breastfeeding. I will never ever lose this sadness.
