Baby not gaining weight 😭😭😭 worried.com

Evening everyone,

My LO is 6 months on 1st Sept. We have no HV visits nor groups etc.

I weigh her at home and I weighed her today and she's not lost any weight, but she's not gained any weight in 4 weeks 😔

In fact looking at her red book she's only gained a small amount maybe like 3 pounds since she was 4 months old 😱😱😱😱😱

I always offer her milk when she wants it 🤷🏼‍♀️ and started given some purees once a day.

Shes still sitting on 91st centile. Born on the border of 98th.....

Is this something to worry about?

She's got all the chubby cheeks and double chin. And the fat rings 🤣

Have you started weaning? Sometimes babies weight plateaus a bit when they are ready to move on to solids

CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 19:30

Only some dinner about 5/515pm, some porridge or a jar thing (doesn't even take half a jar) Though she has damanded food off my plate 😂 bit of toast crust, bit of omelette, bit of banana. But she's never taken any of this in just played with it and sucked for a minute or two, and spat out (don't judge me people I know under 6 months)

CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 19:31

She's plateaued since 4 months though - 3lb gain of weight since then 😱

Why don’t you have a health visitor?
Could you take her to your doctor?

CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 19:37

HV hasn't seen me in at least oooo erm since 24th May, so that would make my LO not even 3 months old. Covid restrictions apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ they don't visit or something. My GP aren't letting us make any appointments due to Covid restrictions. I said it to my family before I could have literally done real damage to her and no official body would know 😔 thank god for mumsnet

I would phone the health visitor tomorrow and if no luck the GPs.

Explain about the weight and they should get you in for a check. They may say let's weigh now and give it a few weeks and weigh again to check growth. But state you are concerned by lack of weight gain and they should get you in.

CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 19:47

I have messaged my HV - see if she replys. Haven't had a reply from past 2 messages I sent her 🤷🏼‍♀️ I know she has read them too as comes up with a read sign.

Oh now I'm even more worried 😯

tigerbreadandtea · 22/08/2021 19:48

Call the general number for your Borough and they can book you an appointment.

PeonyTime · 22/08/2021 19:53

So she was nearly at 98th centile at 3 months, and is now sitting just above 91st - just bouncing between 2 lines? Not crossing any?
I'd be keeping an eye on it, but not stressing.
They do slow down on the weight gain - iirc double birth weight by 4 months, triple it by 1 year.

jessycake · 22/08/2021 19:53

My daughter was like that many years ago , but she was very active and alert and the health visitors were not worried

NightOwl19 · 22/08/2021 20:00

I have a baby similar age and she never lost weight but was extremely slow weight gainer I think she gained 3lb in 10 weeks. If you call your HV they can make appointments for you at clinics or a home visit

CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 20:03

Hope you can see it clearly x

She isn't losing weight but not really gaining🤷🏼‍♀️?

My LO does not stop moving and she's still cute and a fatty - chubby cheeks fat rings double chin 😂

Bobbybobbins · 22/08/2021 20:14

Given she's still on the 91st centipede I wouldn't worry too much. Possibly a combination of moving round more, eating more solids.

Bobbybobbins · 22/08/2021 20:15

*centile!!! Not sure where centipede came from! Grin

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/08/2021 20:16

I’m not a HV but it looks to me as she was tracking nicely along that 91st line then she took a big leap up now shes Returning to where she should be back on the 91st. If she’s eating pooping sleeping I wouldn’t be too worried unless she drops below 91st.

badg3r · 22/08/2021 20:18

Honestly that looks like a normal growth chart to me. It looks like she gained weight faster the last two weigh ins, her curve is the 91st apart from those snd she is still following it. My babies all started out on the 98th and fell down to the 50th or so after a year. As long as they are alert and hitting milestones, lots of energy and wees and poos, then it's usually nothing to worry about it they don't follow the curve as expected. The worry is more if they drop more than two centiles since birth, and to baby is still on the 91st. Get it checked but having been in your shoes three times, it's never been cause for concern.

FTEngineerM · 22/08/2021 20:19

Don’t forget from that image the one at 3months (ish) will be the HVs calibrated scales and the others will be your uncalibrated ones so it isn’t far fetched to say there will be a bit jump when you next we right, which there was.

Immaculatemisconception · 22/08/2021 20:24

Do you have baby weighing scales? Just wondering as it can be difficult to weigh accurately otherwise.

At six months your baby should be getting virtually all nutrition from milk, with just some tastes of solid food, so don’t worry about weaning. It’s a slow process, try finger foods from age seven months.

As your baby is still a bit chubby, then please don’t worry. As babies grow and become more active, they become slimmer.

Hyacinth88 · 22/08/2021 20:26

Don't worry. I think they are only concerned if there's a 2 centile drop within a period.

CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 20:35

She's very alert, always trying to move. Rolls, both back to front and front to back and left and right. Babbles, shouts, never been much of a cryer more of a wimperer. Laughs. Very strong, grabbing things, hears things and sees well, even sits with very minimal support now sits between my legs but doesn't lean too much now whoop whoop 🤗 (happened in last day so I'm excited) think she's going through growth spurt as she's drank ALOT today compared to her Norm. Her Norm for drinking is about 600mls/700mls. Guidance says she should be on 1000mls 🙄🙄🙄 She's had 860mls today and hasn't even had her dreamfeed yet.

Only ever pooped once every day maybe once every other day, her Norm since newborn. Lots of wet nappies. In size 4 nappies, almost 5. Oh and she's quite long 😂 in 6 to 12 months sleeping bags already, and has been for about a month. Been in 9 to 12 months clothes from primark for at least a week now. 6 to 9 months else where. Can't fit her in babygrows anymore as body too long.

Was in a stroller by 4.5 months as she was too big for the pram thing.

Yep your right she is tracking nicely just expected her to gain weight, not stay the same pretty much since 4 months 🤷🏼‍♀️. I will keep a very close eye on it for next few weeks and see what happens.

Thank you lovely people 🤗🤗😊

OP posts:
CourtneyCox2021 · 22/08/2021 20:38

We don't have baby scales just the normal scales for adults. So I expect some leeway with it... OK thanks I see what's she like in next couple weeks and go from there. she is around 9kg give or take.

ZoChan · 22/08/2021 20:51

She sounds like she's doing great, as are you. Ask for more support from health visitors and family support workers at your local children's centre- they need to know that you're feeling unsupported and they're not doing their jobs

fluffybunny98765 · 22/08/2021 21:38

She sounds like she's doing fine! The growth slows a bit once they start moving around. She's the same weight as my almost 2yo so nothing to worry about there 😂 but maybe try and check in with your HV, even a call for reassurance if you're still feeling worried.
