God give us strength. Is it any wonder than bf is on the decline ?
With helpful comments , like the following :
"Mothers are not shown how to make up bottle feeds. Even if mothers breastfeed successfully, most babies will need a bottle at some point. "

Honestly, I despair.

oh ffs

I read a quote by that Clare woman somewhere that six weeks breastfeeding is quite enough

Some breastfeeding counsellor

I have breastfed three children for six years in total now, and have not needed bottles.

I also "love" the comment "if a baby needs cucddles to sleep, it's not feeding properly"

morocco · 09/09/2007 20:39

lol at the idea baby is not feeding properly if he feeds for hours on end and needs cuddling to sleep - someone should tell my rather chubby baby that then

i thought that book was supposed to be quite good?

i don't know much about it really but dehydration is a problem occasionally isn't it? it does sound a bit scaremongering but then i do know someone whose baby got in a very bad way through dehydration and they thought the fact he was getting tired and sleepy was a good sign

lulumama · 09/09/2007 20:40

tis an advertorial for her book and DVD

Tutter · 09/09/2007 20:41

step away from the daily mail

pampam · 09/09/2007 20:43

yes, that comment really p£ssed me off! My 15month old rarely goes to sleep without being cuddled and yet she seems to have survived this long!

pampam · 09/09/2007 20:44

Tutter, you are so right lol

ruddynorah · 09/09/2007 20:50

are you on facebook? if so may i invite you to join the group 'the daily mail really are a bunch of fcking twts'

NAB3 · 09/09/2007 20:51

Someone told me last week they didn't have time to BF their new baby. Does it really take that much longer to give a breast feed than a bottle feed?

Tutter · 09/09/2007 20:52

i am cursed with ILs that read and commit to memory every farking thing the daily farking mail spouts forth

ruddynorah · 09/09/2007 20:56

here, you're all invited

pampam · 09/09/2007 20:56

ruddynorah, am in that group already, most amusing.

moondog · 09/09/2007 20:56

What a load of fucking shit.

I also know someone who 'didn't have time to breastfeed'.
Pathetic. I despise people who don't even have the guts to say 'I just don't want to'

emkana · 09/09/2007 20:56

moondog! You're back!

Tutter · 09/09/2007 20:57

am loving moondog's vitriol

moondog · 09/09/2007 20:57

Am not risking actually clicking on the link for fear of blood pressure induced collapse! I'm guessing it's got something to do with Clare Byam Cook. Seem to remember posting about a year ago re some article in a parenting mag in a similar vein to this.

andiem · 09/09/2007 21:07

I read it aagh what a load of bollocks

and I hate the I haven't got time lot too saw a woman who said to me oh my nipples are a bit sore I can't sit down for that long and I felt like screaming just say you don't want to do it and get the formula out then

potoroo · 09/09/2007 21:18

Don't get it? Why is BF longer than FF? I thought BF would be quicker - no washing/prepping etc?

Or is it nonsense.

Besides, one of the best things about BF was being able to disappear for a while with a good book ;)

Oblomov · 09/09/2007 21:31

I only buy it for the YOU magazine.
And I only buy that for one article.
Liz Jones. Her description of how her life / marriage disintergrates, gives me great pleasure.
I don't know why I despise the woman so much. Maybe becasue she has the iq of ......
And I am ashamed that as an old witch, I enjoy her demise,so much, but there, I have finally admitted it, that is the truth.

oh no!!! my baby sometimes doesnt go 3-4 hours between feeds and wont fall asleep unless he is cuddled ( or in the buggy or the car seat). Do you think i dont have enough milk????

he is 20 months old BTW. Shoudl i be starting him on formula and bottles????

harpsichordcarrier · 09/09/2007 21:45

that Clare Byam Cook is SWMNBN's bf lap dog
nuff said
I too have il's who start every other sentence "Did you not read in the Mail...."

moondog · 09/09/2007 21:48

I love the expression 'lap dog'. Tis so withering.
I honestly can't get my head around the thought that anyone reads the Mail seriously.

My 18 year old niece was staying recently.A young Turk came to take her out.Entire extended family nudged each other as we all simultaneously clocked the daily Express on his dashboard.

Wallace · 09/09/2007 21:51

"A baby who is feeding well ... sleeps after the feed, lasts three to four hours before wanting to feed again,
"The baby is not feeding properly if he/she feeds for hours on end, never goes to sleep unless cuddled

bullshit!

babies feed a lot and often even if they are feeding properly!
babies like to be cuddled!

Wallace · 09/09/2007 21:53

Tis articles like this that give people the wrong expectations, eg that if the baby is feeding alot there is something "wrong".

I have a friend who didn't "have the time to sit around breastfeeding" and put her dd on bottles after 6 weeks because "she was feeding too much" but it was just normal new baby feeding patterns!
