Where do you think it is inappropriate to BF

Reading lots of posts about people who have bf everywhere with admiration. I am happy to bf in public, and have even done it on a park bench. When I am out and about I do sometimes fret about finding somewhere "appropriate" to bf, i.e. a cafe or something, but I am just wondering if there are places where you would consider it to be inappropriate to bf? e.g. in a shop, on a train?

nope - haven't found anywhere in approriate yet - although I do tend to avoid the benches in town with teenage lads perched on the other end as they do tend to get rather goggle eyed if they realise there's a potential nork viewing

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 13:11

oh - but I must say I DON'T advise trying to feed while playing the piano - it's perfectly possible - but baby may end up with "milkshake" instead of just milk LOL.

Kewcumber · 16/08/2007 13:11

a casino?

At your offspring's 21st.

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:11

Agree with oliveoil, the only place you shouldn't feed is in the toilets.

Sheherazadethegoat · 16/08/2007 13:12

while driving, the middle of the road, on the loo (though i think i might have done this is an act of desperation)

yogimum · 16/08/2007 13:12

I would breastfeed everywhere though if I was in another country I might not depending on whats appropriate in their culture.

Notyummy · 16/08/2007 13:13

Really, I would only think a place is inappropriate if I wouldn't take a small (perhaps crying) baby at all i.e business meeting. Also if there was somewhere that people are not supposed to expose themselves for religious or cultural reasons (mosque?) I would probably try and avoid it.

MarsLady · 16/08/2007 13:13

Perhaps it would be inappropriate whilst bungi jumping.... just my personal opinion you understand.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 13:14

haha pitch - that reminds me of when DS3 was about 2 weeks old - I took him to church as per normal and sat near the front - male friend came up and asked if he could squeeze next to me. Sure said I "as long as you don't mind me feeding him" (he's a SAHD to 4 - and his wife BF so I knew he wouldn't mind).......he stopped in his tracks and said "oh sorry - I'll sit elsewhere if you want some space"

needless so say I clarified that I was only joking

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 13:15

oh DS1 was frequently fed on the loo........as he was permanently attached and it was the only way I could relieve myself without leaving a screaming baby LOL.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/08/2007 13:16

it's funny that we all think that in a toilet is inappropriate yet so many people suggest it when you are out.

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:18

that is precisely why I put it

my version of humour

Cammelia · 16/08/2007 13:18

This is bringing back memories, the only time I got an adverse comment when b/feeding was in my GP's surgery waiting room while waiting for my 6 week post-natal check up. I was kept waiting for over an hour and when I fed dd, an elderly man started shouting to me and at his wife about me.

MrsFogi · 16/08/2007 13:18

The only place I ever thought twice about bfing was in church and when the priest came over to my house for tea (I did it in church but not in front of the priest).

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:19

now I wouldn't feed in church

have fed dd2 in the foyer whilst at a christening, but not actually sat in the pew

no idea why tbh

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 13:20

church is one of the places I've felt most comfortable breastfeeding, although I'm not really fussy - anywhere I can perch my bottom will do me

bumperlicious · 16/08/2007 13:22

Interesting responses, thanks! I think now DD is 8 weeks and it is a bit easier I can be a bit more flexible about where I feed her. Can you all feed while walking around?

TOILETS! I am continually shocked when mothers with tiny babies hide away in skanky public toilets to feed them!
I always feel tempted to say something but never have.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 13:23

bumper - I can feed walking around (takes a bit of practice unless you've got them supported in a sling) - but I'm a bit of a wimp and can only manage it for a few months before they get too heavy for me

princessmel · 16/08/2007 13:24

Nowhere.

Apart from a toilet maybe. But only for the babys sake.

MerlinsBeard · 16/08/2007 13:24

not read the thread yet but would say the mens loo is inappropriate
and erm...when driving...and erm...when baby doesn't want it

will go and rea dthe threa and be sensible now

princessmel · 16/08/2007 13:25

Yes I've fed in church too. It was better than dd screaming throught the christening service. (not hers, we were guests)
