Do you think it's possible to tell a breast fed baby/adult?

Spoke to someone today who attended a lecture from a paediatrician who claimed to be able to look at an adult and decide wether they were bf or ff. Then illustrated this by going along the front row and got everyone correct!

I'm finding this hard to believe!!!!

Have to say I agree with NP. How I was fed as a baby didn't come into how I wanted to feed my babies.

I expect all the people in the front row were hand-picked and seated before everyone else arrived.

coddy · 17/07/2007 16:29

yess agree.
i htought bf woudl be a picec of pis htough

wnd it aint

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 16:30

and my gran advise is always " well if you have an inverted nipple you willneed a pump". i dont even have inverted nipples

nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:30

but harpsi

how i feel about stayng at home/vaginal births/etc IS NOT related to what happened to me as a child!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG

nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:32

my attitudes ot feeding children are formed because i am an itellignet woman who knows hwo to read
ho wabout women who dont know how they were born/fed??
oh how confused they must be...

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:32

naily, I think you should calm down.
I have explained my reasons for asking it, not to judge but to normalise and unpack our experiences.
I really don't see why you are getting so angry about a question I haven't asked you!

nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:34

because i completey disagree wiht you

meandmyflyingmachine · 17/07/2007 16:35

Whether your mother was SAH or WOH is very different to her feeding choices and 'choice' of delivery method. I have a conscious recollection of my mother at home and going to work. Obviously I have no conscious recollection of my birth or milk feeds.

I can see that there is a cultural thing going on with feeding choices, but your equation is too simple.

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:36

sorry, what'srubbish fio??
naily if you are saying that your attitudes to bf, birth and motherhood are not in anyway affected by your parenting
or that the same goes for your dh and that the attitudes of your parents and ILs are irrelevant and needn't be considered.
then I will agree the questions are irrelevant.
are you seriously suggesting that the way we are parented doesn't affect our choices?
now I really do think that's strange.....

expatinscotland · 17/07/2007 16:36

Wow, these threads must really sting for all those who are adopted or adopted children. Here they are being told time and again their kids will be messed up, they won't bond with them and they'll have just about every health problem under the sun because they weren't breastfed .

nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:37

stop calling me strange harpsi
everyone is different you know

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 16:37

"actually. if someone was ff or bf as to what sort of support they might get from their mother and family"

I have already said twice my mother is useless

coddy · 17/07/2007 16:38

you are strange htough

lol at inverted nipples

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:39

what equation??
I am not suggesting an equation..
I am suggesting that the way we were fed and the way our dh's were fed affects us consciously and subconciously directly and indirectly.
I don't for one minute suggest that if you were ff you will end up ff or vice versa.
of course there are lots of influences but our family is extremely influential.

McDreamyGonagall · 17/07/2007 16:39

Just attitudes towards feeding and birth for me. My mums experiences didn't come into. Parenting - yes of course I am heavily influenced from my childhood as is DH. Have no idea how he was born or fed though!

Hmmmmm, well Ds4 is the only one of mine to get any breast milk and he is by far the lovliest baby I have made so far so maybe you can tell a BF baby from a FF one.....

Personally I think that bloke was talking a loads a bollocks.

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 16:40

my gran would be great help to someone with inverted nipples though

mind you she always responds to i do not have inverted nipples with....'well even if your nipple is a bit flat a pump helps.....'

its her ONLY advice

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:40

"i fed my babies how i wanted, no outside influences ta v much"
then naily you were very lucky

thomcat · 17/07/2007 16:40

I think I could tell a breastfed adult easily.

They'd be the freaky weirdo in the corner with a weird smile and a milk moustache.

nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:41

harpsi, i still disgree wiht you

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:41

fio PLEASE tell me what's rubbish so I can contradict you

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 16:41

thomcat

McDreamyGonagall · 17/07/2007 16:41

bitty bitty he was easy to spot!!!

Mercy · 17/07/2007 16:41

McDreamy, what were the differences between people who were BF or FF?
