Do you think it's possible to tell a breast fed baby/adult?

Spoke to someone today who attended a lecture from a paediatrician who claimed to be able to look at an adult and decide wether they were bf or ff. Then illustrated this by going along the front row and got everyone correct!

I'm finding this hard to believe!!!!

waht a load of shite!!!!!!!
your height has nothing to do with your genes then?
im 5'1" so does that mean i wasnt bf? er i ws actually...oh hang on my mum is only 5' tall !!! what a coincidence!!!!

tsk

DangerousBeans · 17/07/2007 16:15

If he could combine this amazing talent with tarot card readings and being able to guess your weight, he'd be a great party guest.

Pixiefish · 17/07/2007 16:15

ah well that theory out of the window harpi-

allgonebellyup · 17/07/2007 16:15

msappropriate - obviously you were mix fed! or BF but lately you have been eating a little too much which has stopped you being thin?!!!!!!!!!

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:15

yes, from the smell first of all. also from the look/colour of the skin.

oranges · 17/07/2007 16:15

dh is tall and thin and ff. his sisters are tall and thin and bf.
i am short and curvy and also ff. my brother is short and curvy and bf.
er, genes???

NeverTickleASleepingSoupDragon · 17/07/2007 16:15

"so how do you tell a ff baby from a breastfed one? "

A ff one has a bottle in its mouth and a breastfed one has a breast. Duh!

McDreamyGonagall · 17/07/2007 16:15

It was height in relation to you parents height - apparently

tbh- before I had dd I wouldn't have been able to answer that question as i didn't know

fannyannie · 17/07/2007 16:17

I'm short, fat (well fluctuating weight actually) , have terrible teeth and bad jaw alignment and would describe myself as having 'average' intellingence......BF

Oblomov · 17/07/2007 16:17

What kind of colour of skin ? More ... pinky ?

meandmy · 17/07/2007 16:17

no as me and my sisters were fed differently and we all very similar height weight skin/hair colour dont thing you can tell!

tiredemma · 17/07/2007 16:18

is the 'intelligence' thing really true? has there been credible research into the intelligence benefit?

meandmyflyingmachine · 17/07/2007 16:18

Can he tell how long they were breastfed for? Six-monthers as opposed to never had a drop of formula-ers?

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:19

isn't what a bit personal nailpolish? if they are bf or ff?
well I am teaching breastfeeding so it is pretty damned relevant it is probably one of the least personal things to talk about in an antenatal class.
I get them to talk about barriers to bf, and that if 50% of the people in the room were ff then hopefully that breaks down the ideathat ff is some terrible unmentionable possibility

fannyannie · 17/07/2007 16:19

I'm intrigued about the colour of skin thing too.........

nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:19

nobody can tell the difference

ive never heard anything so smug and ridiculous

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 16:19

the formula fed babies are white with black patches, you know like a calf

coddy · 17/07/2007 16:19

hahahahahaha

McDreamyGonagall · 17/07/2007 16:19

No don't think he was that clever but it would have been a good question to have asked him!!!!

OP posts:
nailpolish · 17/07/2007 16:19

how the mother ws fed as a baby is not relevant at all to how she feeds her own child!!!!!!!!!!!!

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 16:20

oh do you mean is it a bit personal to ask if they are bf or ff their baby? well it just sort of comes up, postnatally. often I get asked questions to do with feeding.

McDreamyGonagall · 17/07/2007 16:20

I agree NP although the person I was speaking to says he got the first row in a university lecture hall all correct -
