I can't bear this prog usually and have just put it on because of this thread - it's reminding me why I never listen!!

Bibis · 25/06/2007 13:46

Daily Mail comment is spot on. I am shocked that some people are so anti bf-ing.

I have never had even a nasty look let alone someone actually tell me off and I have breast fed everywhere, church, shopping centre, restaurant, stood doing it at the school gates once.

I did manage to shock the post man when I opened the door to him and I was bf-ing, seemed the easiest thing to do at the time.

These sad men and women who complain need to think about how they were fed when they were babies, and how Jesus was fed (don't think nestle was around then was it?)

I wonder if the Virgin Mary sat and breastfed the infant Jesus in a toilet?

Somehow I doubt it - there are no Old Master pictures of her doing so, at any rate.

Do believers and church-goers really think God would be offended at the sight of a mother breastfeeding in church?

lazyemma · 25/06/2007 14:20

I found that a very frustrating experience indeed. I wish someone had properly told that horrible old baggage Evelyn where to get off - unfortunately, the woman she was "debating" with was so (understandably) incoherent with anger and frustration that she made a rather poor advocate for breastfeeding mums.

bobsmum · 25/06/2007 14:24

Didn't hear the programme - but would just like to say I b/f in 4 or 5 (very) different churches over the years and no ones batted an eyelid. Any comments have been directed at the baby ie 'cute" 'how old" etc etc. No problems at all.

This woman doesn't sound like a Christian or a seeker - maybe just a church attender - that's different.

Peter (Jesus' pal) was pro b/f "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation" 1 Peter 2:2

tiktok · 25/06/2007 15:00

Evelyn wanted women to sit behind 'screens' if they had to breastfeed anywhere near her.

I think I will go into business.

I will manufacture 'Hide-a-Boob' foldaway screens, to erect anywhere between a bf mother and the rest of the world. They will fold up and sit in a handbag, ready to be unfolded and propped up anywhere someone might catch a glimpse of a baby feeding.

I will sell them not to mothers, but to Evelyns - then any time they are in Marks and Spencers or a shopping mall or a restaurant or in church (all places Evelyn had spotted this dreadful behaviour) she can fish out her 'Hide-a-Boob' and she won't have to look at this horrible sight at all!

The one flaw in this product is the fact that Evelyn could more easily just look away - wonder why she hasn't already thought of that?

bobsmum · 25/06/2007 15:03

Cannot believe this Evelyn was real? Wasn't she the baddy in HeMan? Skeletor's girlfriend?

Evelyn Screens - patent pending - I like it!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 25/06/2007 15:04

ROFL Tiktok.

I didn't catch the programme but I really can't work out how anyone can be a Christian and have a problem with bf.

UnquietDad · 25/06/2007 15:08

Only a vicar could call them "bosoms" and get away with it!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 25/06/2007 15:08

probably used to talking about the bosom of Christ.

I have bf in church from day one and lots of people say how lovely it is, after all the other option is to have a screaming baby. It never occured to me that anyone would have anything negative to say about it.

maisym · 25/06/2007 20:57

so people actually stare at mums with kids to see if they're bf or not!!! - mums can bf and other people just wont be able to see anything.
