You mean anecdotal stuff like "no need to heat a bottle in the night"?

MrsBadger · 04/04/2007 15:32

off the top of my head, apart from the health benefits to mother and baby

  • no need to buy any kit
  • no need to buy milk
  • no need to sterilise anything
  • no need to find clean safe source of water
  • no need delay feeding hungry child while you make up the bottle
  • portable
sniff · 04/04/2007 15:32

my children are hardly ever sick

not sure its all down to BF but it got me throug those early weeks thinking this was definatly why

fishie · 04/04/2007 15:32

comfort

zippitippitoes · 04/04/2007 15:32

isn't it positiveas regards breast cancer

MrsBadger · 04/04/2007 15:32
  • you can fall asleep doing it
MrsBadger · 04/04/2007 15:33
  • you never run out at 3am and have to make a mad dash to Tesco
  • the nappies smell better
  • the sick smells better (maybe both of those should be 'smell less bad'?)
fishie · 04/04/2007 15:34

keeps them quiet while you mn

Honeymum · 04/04/2007 15:36

If you do Weightwatchers whilst BF (and not to be undertaken when baby is v.small obviously) you can eat tons and still lose weight

tiredemma · 04/04/2007 15:36

health advantages mainly. Not so much the benefit of not having to get to tesco!! ( although that is without doubt a benefit!)

save loads of money

MrsBadger · 04/04/2007 15:40

do you want hard research papers?
eg reduced incidence of breast cancer?

tiredemma · 04/04/2007 15:41

I have to put the disadvantages and advantages of both breast and bottle feeding.

I already have the nutrient stuff and illness and allergies, just wondered if there was something else that I was missing..

OP posts:
fishie · 04/04/2007 15:42

sorry tiredemma. right then..

ds too is rarely ill. whereas his ff comrade (at same childminder) has quite a lot of sickness so we have a reasonably good direct comparison.

breastmilk is perfect food on the rare occasions of illness.

Cazee · 04/04/2007 15:44

Baby takes exactly what she wants - so not hungry or overfed. I believe that there have been links made btw ff and obesity later? No "come on, finish the bottle"

Piffle · 04/04/2007 15:44

weight loss

Cazee · 04/04/2007 15:45

Also I read that hormones released during night bf put you back to sleep

fishie · 04/04/2007 15:47

101 reasons to breastfeed

tiktok · 04/04/2007 15:48

Crappy assignment, sorry, Emma. What on earth are the advantages of formula to the baby over and above breastmilk? (I can understand that some women don't like bf, and so they might prefer to ff).

There are no advantages to breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is the normal, physiological way to nourish the human species.

You might as well talk about the 'advantages' of breathing as opposed to using an oxygen tank, or the 'advantages' of walking as opposed to using crutches.

NineUnlikelyTales · 04/04/2007 15:49

Less poo, and the poo is less stinky and brown

tiredemma · 04/04/2007 15:50

tiktok- would you mind doing something for me please?

OP posts:
tiktok · 04/04/2007 15:51

Yes.........?

tiredemma · 04/04/2007 15:53

I really need to put in a 'mothers perspective' of the benefits/advantages of bf........ I would love to pretend that I have 'interviewed' you and put your thoughts in my assignment....

OP posts:
tiktok · 04/04/2007 15:56

You can say 'a mother I met on an internet talk board pointed out that......' and then quote me on that, if you like.
