Where have you breastfed?

Quootiepie · 03/09/2006 21:29

Since my "breastfeeding in public" thread, when I was to scared to feed my baby in public, ive now started breastfeeding like mad! Ive notched up 2 boat trips, a few pubs complete with a local football team!, high streets, cafes, a Little Chef , my DHs brothers house, MILs with loads of people there... I would never have done it without your support, so I thought id start a thread where people can say where they've done it to encourage more to do so!

In the Co-op while unloading trolley onto the conveyor belt thingy AND while packing the shopping into bags!

Practically everywhere - except I think I would draw the line at feeding while driving - particularly in view of the new seat belt laws!

in car parks, in church, on the Ashdown Forest whilst walking the dog, during a nativity play...etc. etc.

But NEVER in front of my FIL!!!!

i too have fed whilst shopping in tescos - not that easy to push a trolley feed week old baby and control hyper 2 year old! also at parties, in church at weddings and christenings, blackpool zoo, sea life centre, at work, at all my friends houses, walking round the park, blackpool tower, doctors surgery, hospital waiting room - anywhere and everywhere - although never whilst driving - dont think i am that good a contortionist!! just pull over at the most convenient spot!! dont think there are many people left who havent seen my la las!! and not all whilst bf!!!!!!!!!

Philomytha · 30/09/2006 20:51

My favourite is the Mammals display in the Natural History Museum - a live exhibit! At Tesco, on the bus, park benches all over the place, cafes, church, other people's houses, halfway up a hill in Wales, whilst out carol singing, at the doctor's, in bookshops, in the library, the Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool, at a wedding ... pretty much anywhere I've been in the last ten months, actually.

Macdog · 30/09/2006 20:55

Funniest has to be Perth Races when dd was 8weeks old.
I went into cafe area, no seats available cos people had bags etc on them.
Leant up against wall, whipped out a boob, dd latched like a pro...and i was offered a seat and a drink of water in about 5 seconds flat!!
Hurrah for the Scottish legislation!!

nearlythree · 30/09/2006 20:55

On the altar steps of our village church during a family service.

Whilst leading a service in another church.

chestnutter · 30/09/2006 21:02

All over the place but the most memorable was outside the New Den (Millwall's football stadium, for the uninitiated) just before kick off. Fed DD, ran into the ground, DH took her home and by the time I got back after the game she was ready for the next feed !

Basically I've done it everywhere - you have to if you want to bf AND continue having any kind of meaningful existance, IMO .

fuzzywuzzy · 30/09/2006 21:09

middle of shopping centre
crowded bus
crowded overground train

In a mosque

Anywhere and everywhere but particularly recall feeding DS at Tate Modern in the Bill Viola video insatallation (Angels?). Fantastic - was in there ages and it was so moving watching images of birth and death whilst feeding DS.

Smellen · 30/09/2006 21:28

In cafés.
In the car.
On airplanes.
In a beergarden - sprayed lady at next table
On sofa in front of the entire series of "Pride and Prej" - great way to 'establish' feeding
Lying on a tarpaulin behind a car at a party (had to practically undress as babysitter let us down so baby came too - but forgot to change into an easy-bf-access outfit).
Going through passport control at Heathrow after a delayed flight. Poor chap at the desk didn't know where to look
Cuddled up in an armchair with DS every night before his bed.

mawbroon · 30/09/2006 21:29

I've just started childminding and I fed my 11month old ds sitting on the wall in the school playground waiting for my new mindee. I don't think anyone even noticed.

mamama · 01/10/2006 01:42

Ikea seems to be a popular one. Haven't been there yet and now ds is almost 13 months, he seems a bit big to be bf in the middle of ikea. Maybe I should give it a go though!

My favourite place was walking along the highstreet with ds in sling. No-one had any idea!

Otherwise, all the usual places:

Plane, train, car
tram type thing at botanic gardens
Gap, M&S, various supermarkets
Cafes, restaurants, bars
Playgroup, playground, park
Doctor's, hospital waiting rm, ward
Museum, Zoo (monkey house)

MrsJohnCusack · 01/10/2006 03:52

anywhere
but most notably in a police car
