Where have you breastfed?

Quootiepie · 03/09/2006 21:29

Since my "breastfeeding in public" thread, when I was to scared to feed my baby in public, ive now started breastfeeding like mad! Ive notched up 2 boat trips, a few pubs complete with a local football team!, high streets, cafes, a Little Chef , my DHs brothers house, MILs with loads of people there... I would never have done it without your support, so I thought id start a thread where people can say where they've done it to encourage more to do so!

Inside Newgrange burial chamber was the coolest pleace I've fed dd. Twas a tad cramped but most people budged up and gave me a bit of room.

prettybird · 04/09/2006 15:08

Anywhere and everywhere - and never had anoyne comment. Never even corssed my mind to ask permission!

Posh restaruants, tea rooms, wedding, John Lewis children's shoes dept, airplanes, traffic jam in France, Greek ferry......

In most cases, people weren't even aware what I was doing.

I've also expressed on a ski slope and once, on the same holiday, in bad weather, in a crowded mountain restaurant. Don't *think anyone could see what I was doing, as I could shield myslef using the bulky ski jacket.

vnmum · 04/09/2006 15:09

well done QP. its just a matter of a little confidence .

ive fed at:
nan's nursing home
3 zoos
bench in shopping centre
traffic jam
in car loads in car parks
other peoples houses
baby clinic
c & a changing room
gap changing room
pizza hut numerous times
burger king
dr's surgery
cafes
in a bank

cant think of anymore places at the moment

Jackstini · 04/09/2006 15:10

school field during sportsday
answering door
on a steam train
pubs
restaurants
friends and rellies houses
beach
benches
car
nottingham castle on a mumsnet meet-up!

Did have fun expressing on a plane when I had to go away without dd - not as easy to be discreet as when feeding and rather noisy too!

Kif · 04/09/2006 15:25

I used to find expressing in moving cars efective and efficient! Tried to make sure I was well covered up when we pulled over at traffic lights!

magicfarawaytree · 04/09/2006 16:04

shops & supermarkets walking round pushing trolley with one hand baby feeding with the other.
Church
Park
Swimming baths (not in the pool though)
Car (contorting over carseat whilst dd strapped in)

LaDiDaDi · 04/09/2006 16:07

I have just been to mum and baby social where 2 mums discussed breastfeeding sitting perched on a loo "because there wasn't anywhere else to feed". They looked horrified when I suggested they could have fed their lo where they were, ie in public.

Felt and a little bit .
Wanted to show them this thread .

TomsMumLP · 04/09/2006 16:15

I need to get out more. So far (DS is 3 months old today):
In the back of the car in Tesco carpark, Asda carpark, several national trust carparks and some laybys. Also on the front doorstep and in a few sand dunes.

coffeebeanz · 04/09/2006 16:26

Pretty much anywhere ... the most bizarre has to be the time when I was lost in a maize maze (you know the kind !) with no idea where I was or how to get out. DS was a few weeks old, hungry and in a sling so I just kept on walking.

Found my way out eventually but never been back in one since !

On a bench in the main shopping street.
on a bench right in the middle of the shopping centre.
Almost the entire time during a family party, including standing in the kitchen (all the best parties happen in the kitchen.)
On the ward visiting a relative in hospital.
On a train.
On a ferry.
In the pub (sounds terrible, didn't have baby out with me for a pint, we had a nice pub lunch!)
Answering the door.
Dangling over the car seat (works a treat on a long journey to get ds to sleep)
Various cafes

Probably more than listed above, but I don't remember. I can't think of anywhere that I wouldn't feed tbh.

Adorabelle · 07/09/2006 14:31

I'm in the States at the mo & dd, 2.3 ,fed quite alot
on the plane over, as she did on the last 3 trips
over here.

Also fed:

On the beach
Watching the seal show at an aquarium
Many restaurants (from birth to now)
Anyones house I visit
In v.slow moving traffic
In church
At the theartre

And a hundred other places!

Well Done to you Quootiepie, I never had the fear of feeding in public, but for you to have overcome that fear & have the confidence to feed your LO anywhere now is a Fab

liquidclocks · 07/09/2006 14:34

Hiya Quootie! Lovely thread - very inspiring to read as I'll hopefully be trying again in 3 weeks

Just trying to figure outwhat I'll do with FILin the room

Jackstini · 07/09/2006 14:44

Liquidclocks - I just stick dd on and he looks elsewhere for a few seconds!
If you don't ask and just do it mid conversation and carry on as normal it avoids the awkwardness

Adorabelle · 07/09/2006 14:49

I agree, I never ask if it's ok to feed dd.
I just do it & if anyone has a problem with it then
they can always move to where they can't see us

wherethewildthingsare · 07/09/2006 15:11

I fed my ds2 aged 5 weeks in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (in Parliament Square) next to an old guy in knickbockers...(think he was a steward)

My ex was receiving his 'chartered' status - a sort of graduation, ds2 was fractious and the chairman heard him whimpering, stood up and said 'welcome to the youngest ever visitor, mum - however much noise he makes, we don't mind, please don't leave...' I had no choice and the old guy didn't bat an eyelid!

yeahinaminute · 07/09/2006 15:57

Brilliant WTWTA !!

Fed pretty much everywhere - much to the DSS's embarrasment ( he was 15 when DD was born!)

But the best was in the back of a limo en route to a black tie do - she was 6 weeks old and we brought her with us as BBsitter let us down at the last mo - and I needed to go out !

tessasmum · 07/09/2006 16:01

Yesterday I fed DS (10 mths) ON a bouncy castle in a friend's garden! He thought it was great, grinned the whole time as various 3 yr olds careered off the walls (and us on occasions)

SufferingInSilence · 07/09/2006 16:07
  • On the bench in a park - a dad came to see me with his dd saying 'Lokk at the baby!' and turned red when he realized I was bf!
- In church but I moved at the back - In the middle of a commercial centre and a nice lady came to compliment me 'There are so few people bf nowdays.' - Most other places already mentioned.
SufferingInSilence · 07/09/2006 16:10

The top of the |North Yorshire Moors. We went picking bilberries with DH and ds1.

millsy · 18/09/2006 20:23

Just about everyhwere I've been since dd was born! Last week fed her at the top of snowdon on holiday!!! Was freezing though!I used to be really self conscious about b/feeding in public - well for about a week anyway. Now I just feed anywhere with pride!

Millsy x

ProfYaffle · 18/09/2006 20:42

Anywhere and everywhere, in the beer tent at the Eye Show, laying down in the day room of Ward R4 in Addenbrookes, sitting up in the day room of Ward R3 while being cheered on by an elderly couple, in the pub where I was having a pint etc etc

never got a negative comment once

laundrylover · 18/09/2006 21:58

I'm very free and easy with bfing and have done the usual weddings and funerals to keep 'em quite.
Last week however I did my first 'fully exposed' feed by the pool in Spain! Had to pop my boob over my swimsuit but luckily it was a quicky so my pristine white flesh didn't burn.

kiskidee · 18/09/2006 22:02

in a pyo strawberry field in northumberland

kneeling in the aisle at b&q while reading the seedpackets.

nicoloola · 18/09/2006 22:13

At the gym.
In our treehouse.
On the beach (several times).
At the gymnastics club.
In the in-laws beach hut.
In front of the father-in-law (most embarrassing).
At a local Thomas the Tank Engine Day out.
It's great though, isn't it!
