I bf my dd till 9 months when she self weaned

Well she did not want to know anymore

She took to food v well at six months

My ds2 is five weeks old
And I'm thinking about how long I will bf him for

And just wondering what most people do after six months
How many times a day to do bf.

How about say after nine months ?

And twelve months.?

Do most people by the time you get to twelve months only do two bf a day
At that stage
As that sounds fairly easy compared to the v frequent feeding ATM!

I think my dd did self wean but I've read babies do not self wean before the age of, can t remember , but day 12/18 months

Keeping an eye on this. Baby is 5.5mo Smile

I'm still feeding DD2 who will be 1 in a couple of weeks. However, I'm back at work 4 days a week so she only has one feed a day, about 4.30-5.30am.

Before I went back she was fed on demand, so anywhere between 3 and 8 feeds in 24 hours.

BoohPear · 14/11/2013 18:51

Dd is 7.5 months. She will feed anywhere between 5 and 10 times a day (including night time). I'm going back to work next month and I'm hoping to still continue to feed in the morning and when I get home, then feed on demand still on my days off. I'm hoping she will naturally self wean as don't really want to go on past one and hoping to stop before then as I'm wanting to stay away for a night just before her first birthday and at the minute she is fed to sleep which my dh can't do bless him!

FaithTheVampireSlayer · 14/11/2013 19:27

I mix feed DD (7 months). She is eating really well so has 4 milk feeds a day. 7am BF, 11.15 FF, 3pm BF, 6.15pm FF and if when she wakes in the night I feed her.

Bearwantsmore · 14/11/2013 19:30

I bf both of mine until 13 months and from about 12 months they were down to just the one feed (bedtime), with a beaker of cows milk in the morning and afternoon. I guess actually that was mixed feeding then... but anyway, I loved our bedtime bf and it was so easy by that stage!

spacegirl81 · 14/11/2013 19:32

I bf DS1 until he was 10.5 months and he just stopped one day Confused he was feeding morning and night. Still feeding DS2 and he's 13 months, but only his night time feed and them he has a cup of milk too!!

LamaDrama · 14/11/2013 19:34

Nearly 7 months old & probably 10 feeds in 24hrs.

KippyVonKipperson · 14/11/2013 19:37

10 months - 5/6 times a day. More if we are in the house, less when we go out and about.

Confitdecanard · 14/11/2013 19:38

Still feeding DS who will be three next month. From what I remember feeding went along the lines of:
0-9 months - lots, day and night
9-18 months - morning, return from work, before bed & some night feeds
18-24 months - morning, before bed and one night feed
24-30 months - morning and before bed
Now - before bed (but not every night) + occasional feeds when he's feeling in need of comfort
HTH

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 14/11/2013 19:44

Dd is 9mo and she will feed anywhere between 4 & 13 times in 24 hrs. Sadly a lot are overnight...
Basic feeds are one in morning, one after nap, one after lunch, one before bed and always at least one in night....

ALOT! My answer for all of life's maladies is my nipple, if gets anxious, overtired, over stimulated or irritable I pretty much shove my nipple in his mouth.

Hangs head in shame walks away.

squidkid · 14/11/2013 19:50

13 months. 2-3 times.

mammmamia · 14/11/2013 20:02

9 months. Once first thing after waking - about 7am then once before morning nap, about 10am.

mrsbugsywugsy · 14/11/2013 20:07

10 months and dd feeds first thing, mid morning, mid afternoon, before bed. She sleeps in our bed and feeds continuously on and off through the night. She can easily skip one of her daytime feeds if we are out and about. She is going to nursery when she is one so will need to cut down a bit over the next couple of months.

Don't forget that feeds get much quicker as they get older.

Helspopje · 14/11/2013 20:09

6mo - on 2 meals - BF 4-5 times / 24h

LifeOfPee · 14/11/2013 20:14

DS is 7 months and still feeds on demand. It varies day to day how many he'll have. I think he's had maybe 10 feeds so far today and he'll probably wake once or twice for a feed in the night? He's been offered 3 meals too. Once he starts having more solid foods I expect he'll slow down on the milk front.

If I remember from DD at about a year she was probably having a feed first thing in the morning then another two for her morning and afternoon naps and then another for bed but not often in between unless she was upset and needed some extra comfort. She was having one or two at night too until I night weaned her at 16 months.

At around 8-12 months some babies go a nursing strike (which may last a few days) but it's unlikely they would self-wean completely until much later. Very easy to mistake a nursing strike for self weaning.

rememberingnothing · 14/11/2013 20:25

Feed both DC until they were 3 and about what Confit said. Was working and on mat leave and tandem nursing during those years so it wasn't consistently at those levels but around that on average.

JollySeriousGiant · 14/11/2013 21:41

6mo - 6 feeds a day
8mo - 4 feeds a day
10mo - 3 feeds a day
11mo - 2 feeds a day

Continued on 2 feeds until 20mo when we stopped.

neunundneunzigluftballons · 14/11/2013 21:44

DS feeds about 2 times a day at 2. It really depends whether you are there or not and what suits Mum and baby up until 19mths he fed a fair bit but then I went back to work and cut it back to 2 times daily.

DrMcDreamysWife · 14/11/2013 21:52

At six months fed on demand. By nine months morning, mid morning, mid afternoon and bedtime (and an all night cosleeping buffet). By 12 months we'd dropped all day feeds and she now at 14 months just feeds at bedtime and once or twice in the night. Occasionally on wake up she asks for it but there's not really any milk then as she usually goes to dh for breakfast so I can get ready for work. We are planning on nightweaning at Christmas as we are fed up of no sleep. I think I'll try to keep the bedtime feed for a while longer but see how it goes.

For what it's worth feeding an older baby/ toddler seems easy to keep up once the day feeds are dropped. No public feeding required and it's never sore ( unless she bites). Not that I had a problem with public feeding it's just as she got older and more wriggly I got a bit fed up.

I think just go one month at a time and see how you go.

MadameJosephine · 14/11/2013 21:55

DD has just turned one and on the 5 days a week I work she has a bf first thing in the morning before I go to work and then again at bedtime and usually at least once during the night. On my days off she also has a couple of feeds during the day before naps (she drinks milk from a cup before naps at the childminder)

FreeButtonBee · 14/11/2013 22:00

Bfing twins. 9 months and we are down to 4 feeds in the day -morning, after morning nap, after afternoon nap and bedtime. Then one or two feeds overnight. Just this week, they' ex started to move towards one feed per night. Before that DD was keen on 3 or 4 feeds a night .

I don't use bfing as a cure all. They get tons of cuddles if upset/tired/grouchy etc but personally it wasn't a habit I wanted to get into partic as they are starting to want a feed when the other one feeds and I could do without either feeding with a wailing baby at my feet or tandem feeding all the bloody time!

Curbyourlassitude · 14/11/2013 22:03

My 3 year old can still feed several times a day (and night) if she's under the weather. Wouldn't reccomend it as I'm beyond tired.

goodbyeyellowbrickroad · 14/11/2013 22:30

At 6 months DS was still fed on demand. By 9 months it was 5 feeds a day - first thing, before each of his 3 naps and before bed. Once he was consistently eating 3 meals a day plus snacks at around 12 months he went to 4 feeds a day. He's now 17 months and the only feeds he has consistently is first thing in the morning and before bed. He will feed more if he needs comfort or is poorly.
