I just crave stodge atm - cakes, biscuits, bread, pasta, chocolates etc etc etc

Am i doing longterm damage to my baby by eating this crap? BTW, i also manage to fit in my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day so i'm also having the healthy stuff!

What d'ya reckon?

I am ravenous all the time, baby is 3 weeks old and feeding like a demon-I would never survive on how LITTLE you eat!I have taken to having 2 weetabix after the 2/4 am stint. Yum.
I think it's a normal metabolic response to the increased work you are doing, or so I tell myself...

I tried dieting when DS2 was 3 months old but BF just made me so hungry I gave up dieting & just tried to up my activity to compensate & now I am dieting now (DS2 is 18 months) and it is a lot easier.

I think celebrity mums who snap back into shape are really bad role models - normal mums who have to look after their babies/other children/homes/go back to work/etc just can not focus this much attention on themselves but just feel awful that they are fat & flappy for longer.

It is just so cruel when your emotions are all over the place anyway.

You sound like you're eating pretty sensibly to me.

I was like Smellen while breastfeeding: ate for Britain, Europe, the World, and still lost weight - eventually down to under my pre-pregnancy weight. Infuriating this may seem, but the downside was that no matter how much I ate, I felt contstantly hungry. In the night too. We have a photo of my night time snack tray - oat cakes, peanut butter on toast, raisins, two pints of diluted juice. And even when ds started to miss feeds and sleep for longer, I still woke up because I needed to eat!

I nearly stopped breastfeeding at five months because (my) constant hunger was becoming unbearable, but we stuck at it until ds lost interest.

You sound like you're doing just fine. And I ate tons of chocolate too! Never normally fancy it, but made up for it while pregnant/breastfeeding ...

Ditto if it keeps you feeding, go for it.

I remember it felt like I was living on chocolate biscuits and ribena for weeks, very proud of myself one day when I managed to actually make AND eat a fishfinger sandwich before the wee one woke up. I was more thirsty than hungry and lost bugger all weight whilst breastfeeding...kept waiting for the posh spice effect..The girlchild didn't suffer in the slightest..

darling here are the advanatages of breastfeeding, according to moi (forgot all that 'it's the best thing for your baby' malarky)

  1. You don't have to fanny around cleaning bottles

  2. You burn an extra 500 calories a day, so it's your God given right to eat as much crap as you like (chocoloate has iron, right? )

  3. The time saved by not washing bottles allows for even more time to stuff your face.

It's a win win feeding option

no, but do try to vary it so the child gets a "taste" for different foods.

(btw, highlander, we have a new computer system at work named after you )
