Mandymoo · 09/07/2006 19:46

I just crave stodge atm - cakes, biscuits, bread, pasta, chocolates etc etc etc

Am i doing longterm damage to my baby by eating this crap? BTW, i also manage to fit in my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day so i'm also having the healthy stuff!

What d'ya reckon?

Nah its fine but be careful you don't put on too much weight as I did.

Nature will give your baby what he/she needs

Mandymoo · 09/07/2006 21:54

I meant "whilst breastfeeding" as in the duration of breastfeeding not as in literally eating crap at the same time as breastfeeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My normal days would be:

Breakfast - bagel and banana and OJ
Snack - choccie bar / apple
Lunch - sandwich / yogurt / apple / kiwi
snack - er....... choccie bar
dinner - meat & veg or pasta & salad / fruit
snack - choccie bar (you get the picture!)

You are not damaging your baby in any way. The only thing you are damaging is your waistline

madrose · 09/07/2006 22:02

I was told the fanastic news that chocolate helped with milk production - well once I heard that - you can guess the rest

Don't worry about it, make sure you get some exercise and when you stop BF it'll drop off.

Smellen · 10/07/2006 12:17

Haven't had time to read all of this thread, but FWIW, I have been bf-ing for 7 and a half months, have eaten lard* every day (and healthy meals besides) and still managed to lose all my preg weight and a few kilos on top of that.

Have to add two caveats: (1) I walk a lot (out for about an hour every day with pram & some shopping bags) & (2) sadly the weight seems to have redistributed itself around my body in new and strange ways!!

  • Jaffa cakes, fig rolls, jam doughnuts, pudding after dinner, then chocolate and tea before bed etc.
Blu · 10/07/2006 12:24

Mandymoo - that doesn't seem a huge amount of food, to me, anyway.

I ate tons when I was feeding, and still actually lost weight.

Once I stopped feeding DS it was a different story - or a a few pairs of new trousers, anyway!

AngelaKitchen · 10/07/2006 13:35

The only thing you have to watch is when you STOP feeding, then you can add on pounds if you don't cut back on the eating. Remember feeding burns a MINIMUM of 500calories. My son fed so much, that even though I was eating cake & cookies and still managed to lose 30 lbs.

sally808 · 10/07/2006 13:40

Helloto you all. I'm new here and have just been reading this thread and can't stop laughing. I thought it was just me who was blowing crumbs of my baby boy and having to explain why he had chocolate and other food stains on his clothes when he is onl 12 weeks LMAO.
I too an no stop stuffing my face and ave put on 1/2 .

tysmaw · 10/07/2006 14:20

me too!!!! dd is 11 weeks and frequently has chocolates stains and tomato sauce on her clothes.

I eat like a horse at the moment

LipstickMum · 10/07/2006 15:35

Nah. Not if you're getting your 5 fruit and veg in too.

KathyMCMLXXII · 10/07/2006 15:40

Sally & Tysmaw - reminds me of eating fish & chips at Bridlington with dd in her front carrier. When we took her out the carrier was full of chips & bits of batter

Bf is a magical process for changing crap food into the healthiest possible.

hoxtonchick · 10/07/2006 15:42

hahaha, i'm at work & reading this thread has made me leak milk (dd is a year now, & i'm still feeding her & have eaten my fair share of crap......)

I dropped a peice of hotdog sausage down carrier when DD2 was 9 weeks old, she had a lovely fireworks party sucking on sausage ....my friends were horrified as she had had "solids" FFS...thouhg now 21 months and loves sausages....could be alink... eat what you like...BF mothers need calories ( the problem is i still eat as if i am a BF mother ...body hasn't realised i stopped a yr ago..)

romilly · 10/07/2006 19:56

unlikely mandymoo - carrot cake and chocolate muffins are a must for b/feeding mums

Mandymoo · 10/07/2006 21:10

Starting Slimming World tomorrow - is 9 weeks after giving birth too soon?

OP posts:
Enid · 10/07/2006 21:14

you eat bugger all

I used to eat twice as much as that (not as many choc bars admittedly)

now doing weight watchers and still eating lots but very healthily and losing weight slowly

(dd3 10 weeks btw)

Mandymoo · 10/07/2006 21:15

Enid - so 9 weeks ok to start SW then?

I hate the fact i cant wear any of my old clothes yet!

OP posts:
archiesmummy · 10/07/2006 21:16

I don;t think it's too soon. I joined a gym 2.5 months after birth. I only went a few weeks though, but still.... I avoided classes with lots of jumping.. Slimming World is excersise isn't it???

Enid · 10/07/2006 21:21

dont know anything about SW

ww fine for the meetings although they dont let you join online

just be careful and eat plenty, but not crap/alcohol if you are worried about weight

personally I think eating too much crap is pointless as it will just make you tired which is the LAST thing you need

karenj1980 · 10/07/2006 21:31

mandy moo - I joined SW after 2 weeks so yes it is fine. You get extra healthy extras for brest feeding so make sure you tell the consultant that you are breast feeding.

Most groups allow you to bring baby with you if you need to.

I have lost 17.5lbs now and dd is 18 weeks old.

Good luck - join us on the slimming world thread. x

Mandymoo · 10/07/2006 21:49

thanks Karen - have first meeting tomorrow so will let you know how it goes ! X

OP posts:
karenj1980 · 10/07/2006 21:56

good luck - just letting you know that I was a previous SW before dd was born and lost 3.5 stone. I put all that back on whilst pregnant and this time round it is going slow. Just remember you just had a baby so don't be down on yourself if it goes slowly like mine has been.

Have you done sw before xx

Mandymoo · 10/07/2006 21:58

no - without sounding like i'm up my own backside, weight has never been an issue for me until now. Its not only the weight thing, i want to adopt a healthier diet anyway. We will see how it goes X

OP posts:
karenj1980 · 10/07/2006 22:12

mm - good luck, it definately is a healthy way to eat. i love sw.
