Poll - if your breastfed baby slept though the night at an early age....

pupuce · 09/04/2006 20:13

First let's qualify sleeping through : at least 7 to 9 hours non stop (so from 10/11PM to 6/7AM)... and let's qualify an early age... anything below 10 weeks....
Did you:
co-sleep (baby in same room but not in your bed)
co-bed (baby in your bed)
co-sleep/co-bed later in the night
let baby sleep in his/her room from days old
fed lying down
fed sitting up

Am quite curious.... have a few thoughts on this now that I work with some many postnatal mums.
Thank you!

Thanks

Interesting poll - would love to give you answers for my babies, but will wander off cackling in a maniacal, sleep-deprived way, stumbling and bashing into things if it's all the same to you... Grin

Will be back to do Envy faces later though.

dd was in her own room at 7 weeks.

by the defintion of sleeping through she (honestly) did that from just past birth- only ever woke once a night , and stopped that at around the time she went into her own room.

when i DID feed at night it was sititng up. never mastered lying down.

DD, aged 4 months has slept through (nearly every night) since coming home from hospital at 2 days. Exclusively breastfed, fed to sleep in my bed (as i recline on the pillows) and put down in her moses basket next to me. Never taken her into bed with me to sleep - only to feed last thing at night and first thing in the morning.

My ds slept through the night 9pm til 7am from 5 weeks. His cot is in our room but I never let him sleep in bed with me. He has his first fed of the day lying down in bed with me but all other feeds are sitting up.

jabberwocky · 09/04/2006 20:19

Okay, I'' bite:
We co-slept with one of those small cribs that attaches to our bed and fed sitting up
(never could get the hang of feeding lying down). Ds woke up every 2 hours for 8 months!!!

mesenfantsmaman · 09/04/2006 20:20

Let baby sleep in own room, fed lying down Smile I had twins first and found the babies in own room worked for me (before anyone jumps on me for being a meanie Grin)

4blue1pink · 09/04/2006 20:23

My last three have gone from 11 till 8 from two weeks - even i am surprised.
My seven week old woke us today at 9.15
Once they are sleeping through ( two weeks) I move them to their own room ( odd but we find they sleep better on own)
Feed sitting up and dream feed the 11.00 one we feed expressed in a bottle. We find they dont even wake up on boob just suckle and snore! The expressed feed is less snuggly and they dont wake just feed - gets a lot more down them!
HTH !

cjmummy · 09/04/2006 20:23

hi, my ds slept through ... 10 or 11pmish until 6amish after about 5 days ... prob 2 nights after getting out of hospital after an emergency cs. it didnt last for ever though - the midwife even told me i should be waking him up for feeds in the night as she thought it was too long for a baby to sleep without a feed - i ignored her though! he was sleeping in a moses basket in our room .. we kept him up pretty late and gave him a bath v late just before a final bf sitting up in a chair ... then he went off and we went to bed at the same time. after a few weeks he started waking up once .. maybe twice at night for a feed but by 8-10 weeks he was sleeping through again on and off. not sure if this was what you were after ... let me know if you need to know anything else.

roosmum · 09/04/2006 20:25

first 3 weeks were hell - ds would only fall asleep on my or dh's chest, so we took it in turns to have him on our chests (in bed)
hr was either 6 or 7 weeks when he started doing 9pm-4am reliably (in moses basket next to me, then swing crib). this lasted til somewhere between 4 and 6 months (see, the sleep deprivation means i can hardly remember when exactly!) when he became a terrible sleeper, worse than a newborn...this lasted up until a couple of weeks ago when he started sleeping 7.30 til 5ish - hooray! Grin
no sleep training here, bf at night until recently, into cotbed in his own room at 6 mths. used to feed him sitting up in bed at first, later lying down, when we'd both fall asleep mid-feed (still do that now when he wakes at 4/5ish, go fetch him from room, feed in our bed, sleep for another hour or two).
phew!

roosmum · 09/04/2006 20:26

ds now 14 mths btw.

Flossam · 09/04/2006 20:26

Hi pupuce - did you manage to book rooms at st thomas' at all a few months ago? Where did you go in the end?!

With regards to the OP I think I will follow HUnker.... Wink

LIZS · 09/04/2006 20:29

dd slept through earlier than ds, at around 8/9weeks, having been very unsettled at first due to undiagnosed reflux.

co-sleep (baby in same room but not in your bed) yes
co-bed (baby in your bed) no
co-sleep/co-bed later in the night no
let baby sleep in his/her room from days old no
fed lying down }both
fed sitting up }

As soon as she slept through her weight gain became much less and she developed an ear infection.

Bozza · 09/04/2006 20:32

Envy x 2. i.e. neither of mine did this.

JennyWren · 09/04/2006 20:54

My dd slept from 7pm to 7am, with a dreamfeed at 10/11pm (usually I woke her but occasionally she woke herself) from about 7/8 weeks old. She slept in her moses basket in her own room from about 2 weeks old (in moses basket in our room until then) and was always fed sitting up. She actually had EBM from a bottle until about the same age (7/8 weeks) as she was very slow in learning to breastfeed, but after that point was 'properly' breastfed. For her dreamfeed and on the rare occasions that she woke at another time I almost always went into her room to feed her there, in the dark, rather than bring her into our room.

Why - what are your thoughts?

dreamteamgirl · 09/04/2006 21:15

DS slept through from 12 weeks to 26 weeks so slightly outside your time frame, but thought Id answer anyway...

co-sleep (baby in same room but not in your bed) Only til 5 weeks
co-bed (baby in your bed) No, both of us hate sharing a bed
co-sleep/co-bed later in the night no
let baby sleep in his/her room from days old no
fed lying down }never mastered it
fed sitting up } yes

Just wish he would go back to sleeping through now.... :-(

alicemama · 09/04/2006 21:24

dd1 slept thru from 2 weeks! and went into her own room at 6 weeks.
dd2 now 4 1/2months has only just started sleeping thru after weeks and weeks of waking twice a night.
Fed sitting up and always slept in her own cot in our room til a few weeks ago.

Frizbe · 09/04/2006 21:37

dd1 woke every 3 hrs until I started her on a bottle of breast at 3mths, then she started going from 7-7 for me, with a dream feed in a bottle at 11pm!

dd2 is currently 5 wks old and is stocking up all evening, then sleeping for 5 hrs straight most nights!

expatinscotland · 09/04/2006 21:40

co-sleep (baby in same room but not in our bed)
fed sitting up (still haven't got the hang of lying down)

she started sleeping thru at about 14 weeks

fruitful · 09/04/2006 21:52

Envy Envy Envy

I knew I shouldn't have read this thread!

lovecloud · 09/04/2006 22:04

My dd slept from 9pm - 7/8am from 8.5 weeks old.

At the age she was sleeping next to me in her cot.

I breastfed her as much as she wanted in the day which fell into a rountine quite early. Although sometimes I remember feeling like I fed her all evening!!!

The last feed was always in my bedroom on the bed lying down or sitting up - mainly sitting!

It changed to always lying down, night and morning feeds in my bed, usually the morning one we would both snooze off again.

Ahhhhhhhhh - i loved it!

No.2 coming soon so hopefully will be just as good as their sister :)

rarrie · 09/04/2006 22:07

From 5 1/2 weeks, my DD slept 12 - 5, by six weeks she sept 12-6, by ten weeks it was 11 - 7 easily.

My DD was 100% breastfed, but we did do the 'cluster feeding' as recommended by the Baby whisperer.

I did not sleep with her, but her moses basket was right next to my bed. I was fed sitting up (big boobs, could never get the hang of doing it lying down) and I fed her wherever we were at the time!
