pupuce · 09/04/2006 20:13

First let's qualify sleeping through : at least 7 to 9 hours non stop (so from 10/11PM to 6/7AM)... and let's qualify an early age... anything below 10 weeks....
Did you:
co-sleep (baby in same room but not in your bed)
co-bed (baby in your bed)
co-sleep/co-bed later in the night
let baby sleep in his/her room from days old
fed lying down
fed sitting up

Am quite curious.... have a few thoughts on this now that I work with some many postnatal mums.
Thank you!

Thanks

dd1 is 10 - shwe sleeps through, dd2 is 8, she usually does but occasionally comes through, ds1 is 4 he still gets up in the night and comes through and dd3 is 2, she still comes through most nights - am I doing something wrong? Smile

Tinker · 10/04/2006 10:58

Will be interested in your thoughts pupuce...

My 2nd did sleep from 7 til 7, no waking, from 10 weeks.

Slept in same room

Fed sitting up.

But at about 20 weeks - she statred waking and it's never been the same since then.

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2006 10:58

dd2 was breastfed, did start sleeping through for about a week at around 9 weeks but then the roof of the building fell in one night and we were evacuated by the fire brigade as said building had a dangerous building order placed on it..she never slept through agin until she was about 5 (years)

Mummyvicky · 10/04/2006 11:55

DD slept in cot in her room from day 1.I fed sitting in rocker chair. She slept from 7:30 til usually 8am. Very rarely woke to feed in the night.(why oh why are my others 2 exact opposites!?)

maretta · 10/04/2006 12:13

I co-slept and fed sitting up.

He did sleep through 7-7 but at about 4mo started waking at 4ish for a feed. I think that seems common too.

chocolateshoes · 10/04/2006 12:44

DS slept from 10.30 - 7am from 4mths & then 7-7 from 5 mths.

Prufrock · 10/04/2006 12:51

Dd slept through from about 6 weeks. She was bf, and slept in her own room from day 5 when we came home. I fed her sitting on a sofa in her room at night, sometimes lying down during the day.

Ds slept through from about 10 weeks. Same again, except in first few weeks he was very restless in the early morning and would co-bed with me from about 4-7am and cluster feed with me lying down.

longwaytogo · 10/04/2006 13:01

ds slept through night at 8 weeks 11-7 the other three didn't though

Nightynight · 10/04/2006 13:31

We co-slept and fed lying down, and ds1, ds1 and dds all slept for 6 hours within 1-3 weeks.
But they carried on like that for about a year.

louloubelle · 10/04/2006 14:03

Baby girl slept through (9 hours) at 5 weeks, then 12 hours at 6 weeks. Breast fed till 11 months. Fed every 2 hours during the day though. Slept in a bedside cot for 16 weeks, was in bed with us for the first couple of nights. Last feed was with me sitting in bed, putting her down when drowsy but not totally asleep. Please let us know your conclusions, as I'm overdue 10 days with my baby boy and need help remembering what to do!

TuttiFrutti · 10/04/2006 18:51

Did you:
co-sleep No
co-bed No
co-sleep/co-bed later in the night No
let baby sleep in his/her room from days old Yes
fed lying down No
fed sitting up Yes

Ds slept right through, 7pm-7am, from 8 weeks old. We put him in his own room from day one.

I wonder if the sleeping through thing has a lot to do with weight? Ds was 9lb 8oz when born and has always been a hefty size, which means he can go for longer between feeds than most babies his age.

I'll be really interested to see the results.

Tinker · 10/04/2006 18:53

Yes, I'm keen to see the results. As long as don't say own room is The Answer!

Caligula · 10/04/2006 19:03

My DS slept through the night from 6 weeks (from about 10PM to 7AM - oh how vividly I remember it!!)

He slept in a cot in my bedroom.

Caligula · 10/04/2006 19:05

Sorry didn't answer the rest. I always took him out of his cot with the light off and fed him sitting up at night (I was too incompetent to do it lying down), then put him straight back into his cot when he'd finished.

popsycalindisguise · 10/04/2006 19:13

ditto what hunker said in the second post of this thread

I have a MNre friend though who doesnt post much anymore house fuly breast fed baby slept through at 5 weeks and I think the baby slept in her room but in its own cot

popsycalindisguise · 10/04/2006 19:15

Is there a reverse of this thread by the way? BF babies who DON't sleep through? If not, I am going to start one as I have theories too....

Caligula · 10/04/2006 19:17

Ha
I've just spotted your disguise Popsycal. You're rumbled.

oooh, interesting thread.
DD now 26 weeks. Breastfed from birth.
From 0-10 weeks slept 12:00 til 5:30 - 6:00
From 10-14 weeks slept 8:00-5:30
From 14 weeks onwards, 8 til 6:30 Weekdays (when I wake her so I can get ready for work), 8:00 til 7:30 weekends.

The only blips were when she was poorly. She was moved into her own room at five months, had three nights a couple of weeks ago when she woke up in the night for a feed, but that has been it.

(I know, I'm lucky!) I personally believe that how a baby is fed does not mean much for sleep - me and my two sisters were all formula fed, one had "normal" baby sleep patterns, one hardly slept til she was five and I slept eight til eight from birth.

Elf1981 · 10/04/2006 19:27

Oh and she slept in her moses basket til week 12, then a crib til week 20 (both in our room) then cot bed from week 20.
And I always feed lying down, so much easier, I can just roll off the bed afterwards, leave her for a bit before moving her into her own bed when I know she is asleep.

popsycalindisguise · 10/04/2006 19:29

going to start a paralell thread.....

DS2 - slept through from about 9 weeks (was sleeping 6-8 hours before, but then started going 10-11).
Co-slept in same room until 6 months-ish.
Fed him sitting up as developed mastitis through poor bed feeding with DS1, and he didn't like it lying down.
He rarely slept in our bed but did occasionally in early weeks.
